Chapter 3

March 3, 2019

Aliyah's POV

I have decided to escape tonight. It's been a week since I told Sasha about my fake fiance and his fake killers. Lately, she's been antsy and was demanding we report the matter to the police.
I was able to convince her to leave the room's key with me. She had frowned when I made the request.

"What do you need it for?" she frowns at me.

"It's stuffy in here. Sometimes I feel suffocated. I need some fresh air. I need to stroll around the building," I lie.

"Alright, you can have the key but you have to make sure you don't get too much attention. Remember my family doesn't know you're here," She warns me.

That's how I got the key, bringing my plan to a start. I even went on a few walks just to convince her so she doesn't suspect a thing.

So here I am, tonight, on my bed, waiting for Sasha to leave.

"Try and get some rest. Your hand is better now but you still need rest. I'll be leaving now, goodnight," she smiles  at me as she picks up her handbag.

"Goodnight, Sasha," and goodbye!

I wait for a few more minutes before I get out of bed. I quickly wear the shoes she had bought for me and pick the duffel bag and stash the clothes she had given me into the bag.

To be extra sure, I wait for a few more minutes before I open the door and step out, the cold wind hitting my face. My room was not connected to the main building. I walk as fast I can, looking over my shoulder from time to time. It's dark and there isn't much cars on the road now.

I have to find a bus station and get out of this town. Knowing Sasha, once she finds out I have disappeared, she's going to think am in some sort of danger and ring the police.
I need cash if am going to get a bus. But how do I get some?

A small supermarket is in front of me. The lights are on so it means they are still open. I hurry into the building and close the door. The place is pratically empty except for the man behind the counter who is dozing off and drooling at the mouth.

I grimace at the disgusting sight. The big clock on the wall says it's past ten. I better hurry or all the buses will leave soon. I began to move around, picking food supplies like chocolate, biscuits, bottles of fruit juice and water, stuffing them inside my duffel bag. I finish in time and walk stealthily and pick a pocket knife laying on top of the counter.

My palms were sweaty as I contemplate what am about doing. Am about to rob a supermarket but I have done worse so I quickly calm my nerves down. I bang on the counter and yell at the sleeping man.

"Hey! Wake up!"

He wakes up with a start, staring at me as if I am some sort of alien then he looks down at the pocket knife I am holding and almost fall off from his chair.

"Hey, I have no time for foolish games. Give me all the money you've made today and I'll be on my way," I say to him without blinking.

"Leave now or I'll call the police!" he threatens.

"Don't try to be smart with me. I am not afraid to use this," I wave the knife dangerously in front of him, "So spare me the stress of having to stab you and give me the money. Now! All of it!"

"Okay, okay, okay! Shit! Just put that knife away! Here!" he puts the money into a polythene bag and hands it over to me.

"Is this all?" I eye him carefully.

"Yes, please don't hurt me," he pleads.

"Hey, don't try to be smart with me. Don't you dare call the police or I'll come back here to finish what I started. Got it?"

"Yes, got it!"

I spin around and run out of the supermarket incase he changes his mind and decides to call the police. A signpost says the bus stop isn't far from here. Good. I can't wait to leave.
