Chapter 14: My Dear Sworn Brother

'Just one sip wouldn't hurt,'

~WEI YING'S POV~

Wei Ying stared at Lan Zhan's ever fair complexion. He pouted, and thought,'Even when Lan Zhan is drunk, he still looks like some fairytale prince...'

Wei Ying huffed, 'It's not fair. When Wei Ying gets drunk he looks like a dying rat. Isn't getting drunk supposed to be ugly? Aren't you supposed to jump around like a fool? So why did Lan Zhan look like nothing was wrong? Did Wei Ying not give him enough wine? But that's impossible. The last time it only took one cup before Lan Zhan got drunk... unless...? All those years Wei Ying was gone, Lan Zhan had turned into a drunktard?

Wei Ying gasped and waved his hands in front of Lan Zhan's face. "Lan Zhan? Lan Zhan!" he yelled when Lan Zhan's eyes drooped and his head fell forwards onto the table.

Wei Ying stared at him in shock. Lan Zhan was... asleep?!

He grumbled, "Lan Zhan you fuddy duddy. I've never seen someone THIS bad with alcohol... how can you sleep after just one cup?! Ughh you're no fun," he raved before thinking, 'Well there goes my sex...'

Wei Ying had originally planned to intoxicate Lan Zhan, and take advantage of him. He just didn't realize how bad Lan Zhan was with alcohol. In fact, Lan Zhan was so bad with alcohol, that he had passed out cold after just a few sips. Wei Ying's mood had immediately soured, and he moped around before whining,"Lan Zhannnn," "Wake up and fuck me."

He poked Lan Zhan gently, "Come onnn pleasee?" he begged. "Please?"

"LAN ZHAN!" he shouted when he realized all his pleas were to no avail. "YOU WAKE UP RIGHT NOW AND FUCK ME!" Wei Ying screeched.

"..."

"If you don't wake up right now... I'll go find Wen Ning," he tried as a last resort.

Lan Zhan was silent, still passed out. Wei Ying huffed. "Fine then. Be that way," he said as he walked towards the window.

Hopping out onto the street, Wei Ying pulled out his makeshift flute. Bringing the flute to his lips, he played a quick melody to summon Wen Ning. Chains rustled and a figure clothed in black jumped out in front of him. He frowned when he saw young man's dull and lifeless eyes. "Wen Ning?" he asked.

Wen Ning didn't answer. Wei Ying's frown deepened. Even as a corpse, Wen Ning had always been a mild and well mannered boy- he would never ignore Wei Ying. Something was wrong... very wrong.

"Wen Ning?" Wei Ying asked again, approaching him. The latter didn't answer, only stared blankly ahead. Wei Ying neared him.

Before the Burial Mounds Siege, the Lanling Jin Sect had announced to the world that the Wen siblings were already burnt into ashes. Wei Ying scoffed bitterly. Clearly they had lied.

He furrowed his brows, fingers reaching into Wen Ning's hair, 'If the Jin Sect wanted to use Wen Ning for themselves, they would've needed to make sure that he couldn't think for himself. In that case...'

"AHA!" Wei Ying yelled triumphantly. He held up the two long nails that he had just pulled out of Wen Ning's skull. Wei Ying carefully examined the nails. They were clearly made by someone very skilled in demonic cultivation. He sighed. Skilled, but not skilled enough.

"Wen Ning. Go hide." Wei Ying said, pointing to the dark alley beside them. "Hide," he stressed, seeing that the latter still didn't respond.

Suddenly, Wen Ning flew backwards a few feet before landing on the ground with a plop. He slowly got up, not minding the shoe print on his chest, and dashed away.

Wei Ying turned, "Lan Zhan!" he giggled, thinking that Lan Zhan was here to satisfy his earlier pleas. Lan Zhan's chest puffed in pride at the excitement in Wei Ying's voice. He grabbed Wei Ying's hand, "Come," he grunted before leading Wei Ying out the town.

"Lan Zhan...?" Wei Ying asked, confused. 'Why was Lan Zhan taking him out of town? Isn't fucking supposed be to done on a bed...? Maybe Lan Zhan had a weird kink for doing it out in the open?'  Wei Ying thought, quite puzzled.

His jaw dropped to the floor when he saw that Lan Zhan had led him to a small farm, some distance away from the inn that they were staying at. "Lan Zhan!" he hissed, blushing. "That's not our house!" Oh god, Wei Ying thought. 'Was Lan Zhan going to fuck him in someone else's house? Is that even a thing?'

"Wei Ying." Lan Zhan whined, his voice unusually childish. "I want to see," he whimpered pointing a finger at the small cottage.

"But Lan Zhan..."

Lan Zhan frowned, and pretended he didn't hear Wei Ying's cries of protest. He tugged Wei Ying inside, and made a beeline straight for the chicken cage.

Lan Zhan inspected the clucking hens before reaching in and grabbing the plumpest one he could find. He set the chicken down before reaching into his sleeve and taking out the jar of wine he had brought with him.

"Cheers!" Lan Zhan muttered, pouring himself a glass, and raising it in a toast. "Cheers to Wei Ying finally forgiving me!" he exclaimed, downing the wine. "Such a joyous occasion should be celebrated," he reasoned. "But... brother is not here. So no one will drink with me." Lan Zhan pouted.

He thought for a moment before pointing a shaking finger at the hen, "But you are!" he cried. "You can act as my brother's stead!" he raised another glass, "We'll be sworn brothers so you can drink with me!" he paused, then added, "But don't take it seriously. It's only for tonight. Wei Ying will be jealous if I'm with anyone else," Lan Zhan said in all seriousness.

Wei Ying looked on in shock. Lan Zhan intended to become sworn siblings with... a chicken?!

He burst out laughing. "Oh my god, Lan Zhan you fuddy duddy! I can't believe this," he cried wiping tears from his eyes. "This is gold, pure gold! Lan Zhan you're..." Wei Ying doubled over, barely able to speak. "Y-You," he spluttered, "Oh god Lan Zhan, you're so cute."

Lan Zhan preened at his words, and turned to the chicken. "Chicken brother, did you hear what he said? He called me cute," he gushed.

Wei Ying's stomach was starting to hurt. "Lan Zhan, who would've thought that an intoxicated Han-Guang Jun would act so childish and immature!"

Lan Zhan frowned and ignored Wei Ying. He looked at his sworn brother with pride- the clucking hen was flapping its wings, trying to flee. Distressed calls came from its beak. It stomped its feet, tensed its back, and fluttered its feathers in one last desperate attempt at escape.

"Chicken! My brother, why are you so scared?" he asked, genuine concern in his voice.

"SQUAWK! SQUAWKKK!"

Lan Zhan just tilted his head, confused. "What are you doing? Are you hurt?" he gasped before tearing off a strip of his robe. "Chicken brother! Here let me help!" he exclaimed before wrapping the cloth around the chicken's head.

The hen screeched even louder as it was slowly being suffocated by Lan Zhan's robe.

Wei Ying frowned. He looked at the hen in disgust. "Serves you right," he taunted, "Lan Zhan doesn't even tear off his clothes for me..." he pouted.

Wei Ying's frown deepened. He wasn't jealous of a chicken now was he? He scoffed. It's not his fault that he's so envious. Lan Zhan was just so nice to the hen... he even drank with it! Lan Zhan doesn't even drink with Wei Ying! Wei Ying had to beg Lan Zhan before the latter finally conceded. Now this stupid chicken was reaping the benefits of his hard work.

Wei ying seethed, glaring at the hen. "I'm going to chop you up and eat you if you don't get away from Lan Zhan," he warned.

Lan Zhan gasped, quickly pulling the chicken into his arms. "Don't eat my chicken brother!"

Wei Ying fumed. How dare that hen jump into Lan Zhan's arms. Lan Zhan was his, and Wei Ying didn't like to share. He glowered at the chicken. 'Just you wait,' he thought. 'The second Lan Zhan leaves, you're done for.'

"Lan Zhannn" Wei Ying whined holding his arms out like a lost puppy. "I want a hug too," he pouted.

Lan Zhan beamed and immediately dropped the chicken in his arms. Having suddenly been tossed aside, the hen squawked loudly with indignation. Wei Ying peeked over Lan Zhan's shoulder and stuck his tongue out. 'Serves you right,'  he thought.

"Lan Zhan," Wei Ying exclaimed, delighted by the night's activities, "Let's go back."

"But chicken brother..."

Wei Ying scowled, no longer so amused. "Lan Zhannnn," he said as grabbed Lan Zhan's hand and pulled him away. "Let's go."

Lan Zhan gave one final look at his newly sworn sibling and sighed. "Alright," he conceded before following Wei Ying back into town.
