Chapter 8

Two months of being at Hogwarts had passed. Chloe like everyone else has been indulged in classes and friends. Chloe has become really good friends with Sue Li, Dizzy was enjoying Hogwarts heavily. She had large ranges to roam and could make other animals friends. Harry went to quidditch practice three evenings a week, and every morning he and Ron would wait outside Ravenclaw before heading down to breakfast in the morning. Neville was still highly secretive to the others about getting toad help from Chloe.

It was now Halloween, their classes were cut in half due to the holiday.Chloe was so excited for charms today, that she put her hair in low pigtails with bows replacing the hair ties.  And since they mastered all the basics, Flitwick told them they were ready to make objects fly around the classroom. Everyone was excited since Flitwick made Neville's toad fly around the classroom. Professor Flitwick put the class in pairs, Harry got paired with Seamus, Ron paired with Hermione, Sue paired with Mandy, and Chloe ended up getting paired with Goyle. She wasn't too happy about that. Though Ron and Hermione were way more unhappy, Hermione hasn't spoken to them since Harry's broomstick came in.

"One of a wizard's most rudimentary skills is levitation," Flitwick explained. "Or the ability to make objects fly. Uh. do you all have your feathers? Good. Now, uh, don't forget the nice wrist movement we've been practicing, hmm?" He demonstrated with his wand. "The Swish and Flick. Everyone."

"The swish and flick," everyone said together as they practiced the movements.

"Good," Flitwick complimented. "Oh, and enunciate. Wingardium Leviosa. Never forget Wizard Baruffio who said 's' instead of 'f' found himself on the floor with a buffalo on his chest. Off you go then."

"Wingardium leviosa," everyone began to repeatedly say.

"Wingardium levisoa!" Goyle said he flicked his wand more than he should. Nothing happened. "Wingardium leviosa!" Nothing happened. He had been having a good at it for two minutes now.

"Uh, Goyle?" Chloe asked, he looked over at her, his ears started to turn red. "Can I try, please?"

"Y-y-yes," Goyle nodded.

"Thank you," Chloe gave him a light smile as she turned to the feather. "Windgardium Levisoa." Her wand swished and flicked as she said it, the feather rose off their desk, hovered about four feet above their heads.

"Oh, well done!" Flitwick cried happily. "See here, everyone. Miss. Thorne's done it! Splendid!" This got everyone working even harder.

"Wingadrium Leviosa!" Goyle said nothing happened. He turned to Chloe who was staring at the feather. "What am I doing wrong?"

"I'm not entirely sure how to explain it," Chloe admitted as lifted her hand, she hovered it over Goyle's hand that was on his wand. "May I?" He nodded, Chloe put her hand on top of Goyle's hand and started to do the flick and swish motion. Across the room, Ron saw what was happening and grew jealous, he then turned to his feather.

"Wingardium Leviosar!" Ron shouted as he waved his arms like a windmill.

"No, stop, stop, stop," Hermione ordered as she put her hand out. "You're going to take someone's eye out. Besides, you're saying it wrong. It's Levi-osa....not Levi-osar."

"You do it, then, if you're so clever," Ron snarled. "Go on. Go on."

Hermione rolled up her sleeves and flicked her wand. "Windgardium Leviosa!" Their feather rose up four feet.

"Oh, well, done!" Flitwick cheered again. "Well done, Miss. Granger!" Ron's mood became even sourer.

"Windgard Leviosa," Seamus said as he began to give it another go."Wind--"

BOOM!

Everyone looked over to see Seamus covered in soot, his eyes were now completely gone, and the feather was burned.

"I think we're gonna to need another feather over here, Professor," Harry said as he put the fire out with his hat. Soon the class was over, Chloe was one of the last out of the class with Sue and Padma.

"I'm sort of down that they cut classes short today," Padma admitted. "But I guess it's all part of school fun."

"I'm glad they cut it short," Chloe said. "With it being Halloween, they probably sort of gathered that the students wouldn't be focusing much."

"They could have at least made the classes a Halloween-themed lesson," Sue said. "But I guess we can use this afternoon for our own joy." While in the next class, Chloe noticed that Hermione wasn't there. After class, Chloe was now in the Viaduct courtyard with the other Ravenclaw girls, she was trying to put a little hat on Dizzy to get her into the Halloween atmosphere.

"Oh, come on Dizzy, it's only for a night," Chloe requested, Dizzy shook her head and folded her arms. "Clover has his hat on." Clover appeared over Chloe's shoulder with a pumpkin hat on his head. "Don't you want to be like your brother?" Dizzy just huffed and looked away.

Lisa started giggling. "You speak to them as if they are your kids."

"They act like kids," Mandy pointed out. " I won't be surprised if you adopt a Chimera."

"I don't adopt, I rescue," Chloe corrected.

"And these rescues just so happen to latch to you as you are their mother," Morag added. "They don't latch on to your brothers like they latch on to you." Chloe looked at her. "Clover will be with Milford, then the moment you walk by suddenly Clover is with you." Chloe looked back at Clover, he snuggled in her lap, then turned on his back. She then started to give him a belly rub.

Soon they were at the Halloween feast. A thousand live bats fluttered from the walls and ceiling, while more swooped over the tables in low black clouds. Carved pumpkins, with stuttering candles inside. Chloe was sitting next to Cody, he had managed to get Dizzy to wear the hat he made.

"Got jealous, didn't you?" Cody asked. Dizzy squeaked and held up her arms. Out of the corner of her eye, Chloe watched Clover snatch a watch off Snape's wrist, the niffler ran down the hall, Chloe got up and ran over the little guy.

"Clo!" Cody shouted. "Where are you going!?"

"After Clover!" Chloe exclaimed. "Clover! Come back!" The shouting made the niffler more excited for a game of chase. She chase Clover for a bit, he jumped off a painting that was shouting vulgar words. Chloe jumped as well, she caught the niffler, sliding into the girl's bathroom. "You are going to get expelled from this school, you know that?" Clover happily clapped. "You took the potion's professor's wristwatch! There should be more fear!" She heard crying. "Hello?"

"Go away," a voice said, it belonged to Hermione.

"Hermione, have you been here all day?" Chloe asked.

"I said go away!" Hermione snapped in a quivering voice. "I just want to be left alone, please!"

"Your my friend, Hermione," Chloe said. "You sure you don't want to talk about it?" Her eyes turned to a yellow shade for worry as a strong odor entered her nose.

"We aren't friends," Hermione denied. "Who would want to be friends with a know-it-all like me?"

"I do," Chloe said. A stall door opened revealing a red-faced Hermione from crying.

"You don't think I'm a nightmare?" Hermione sniffed. "Ron said I was, that no one can stand me."

"Don't pay attention to what Ron says," Chloe advised. "He used to eat his own toenails when we were six."

"Gross," Hermione scrunched her nose.

"Boys are intimated by girls that are smarter than them," Chloe said. "Consequences of a fragile ego." Hermione smiled a bit, suddenly Clover started to shake clinging to Chloe. "Clover?" She looked down at the creature. "What's the matter?"

"Clo?" Hermione asked in a whispered voice. "Walk towards me, slowly and quietly." Chloe slowly turned to see a twelve feet tall, dull granite, skin, lumpy body, and small head mountain troll. It had large feet, it held a large wooden club, dragging it into the bathroom. Both girls took cover in the stalls, Chloe held Clover close as they hit the ground. Chloe and Hermione started to scream as the troll started to destroy the stalls. They heard doors open to see Harry and Ron running in, both girls moved pieces off of them.

"HERMIONE! CHLOE! MOVE!" Harry shouted as Chloe got to her feet, Clover jumped out of her hands and ran to Ron, crawling up his pants leg and into his pocket.

"HELP!" Hermione shouted as Chloe ducked, but not quick enough. She caught on the end of the club and hit the wall.

"CHLOE!" Ron shouted as the troll picked Chloe up by her leg, blood dripping down. "HEY! PEA BRAIN!" Ron and Harry were throwing pieces at the troll, Chloe let out a cry as the troll crush her leg with its hand. The troll watched Hermione crawl under the sink, the troll destroyed a sink, barely missing Hermione.

"Help!" Hermione called out as Harry took out his wand. He ran forward, grabbing on the trolls' club. Harry landed on the back of the troll's neck.

"WHOA, WHOA!" Harry exclaimed as the troll tried to shake him off. Harry stuck his wand in the troll's nose.

"Ew!" Ron sounded. The troll started to shake around, he dropped Chloe straight on her head, then grabbed Harry.

"Do something!" Harry shouted as he dodged the club.

"What?" Ron asked as he looked around.

"Anything!" Harry shouted as he dodged the club again. Ron took out his wand. "Hurry up!"

"Swish and flick!" Hermione instructed from underneath the stall.

"Wingardium Leviosa," Ron said as he waved his wand. The club left the troll's hand, thankfully before he was able to hit Harry. The troll looked up just as the club dropped his head. "Cool." The troll dropped Harry.

Harry back up as much as he could as the troll tumbled over

"Chloe!" Ron exclaimed as he ran over to her, she was knocked out, blood everywhere. "Speak to me!" He grabbed her shoulders, Clover left Ron's pocket, scrambling over to Chloe. He sniffed her wildly, nudging her with his head.

"Is it...dead?" Hermione asked as she got out from under the sink.

"I don't think so," Harry admitted. "Just knocked out." He removed his wand from the troll's nose. "Oh! Troll boogies!" Suddenly they heard running, they looked to see McGonagall, Snape, Flitwick, and Quirrell. McGonagall looked like she was going to have a heart attack.

"Oh, my goodness," McGonagall exasperated. "Explain yourselves, both of you!"

"Well, what it is--" Harry and Ron began to explain.

"It's my fault Professor McGonagall," Hermione spoke up.

"Miss. Granger?" Flitwick asked.

"I went looking for the troll," Hermione explained. "I'd read about them and thought I could handle it, but I was wrong. If Harry and Ron hadn't come and found me. I'd probably be dead."

"As for Miss. Thorne, did she join you?" Snape asked.

"No, she only came in here chasing after Clover, her niffler," Hermione explained. "Stole something." Snape kneeled beside the girl, as Clover dug into his pouch, pulling out Snape's wristwatch. Snape was a bit surprised and took the watch back. He looked up to see Harry staring at his injured leg, and moved his cloak to cover it.

"Be that as it may...it was an extremely foolish thing to do," McGonagall said. "I would have expected more rational behavior on your part, and I'm very disappointed in you, Miss Granger. 5 points will be taken from Gryffindor for your serious lack of judgment. As for you two gentlemen--I just hope you realize how fortunate you are, not many first-year students could take on a fully grown mountain troll and live to tell the tale. 5 points will be awarded to each of you...for sheer dumb luck." She turned to the other professors. "Professor Snape and Professor Flitwick, take Miss. Thorne back to the hospital wong, I'll take my students back to Gryffindor.

The next day Chloe's brothers were all in the hospital wing besides Chloe's bed. Dizzy and Clover were snuggled up to the girl.

"Your sister gained a serious head injury, broken leg, broken ribs, I was able to stop the bleeding," Madam Pomfrey explained. "You are lucky she will live."

"But when will she wake?" Carvell asked. "Tomorrow?"

"Injuries like that are going to have her out for more than just a day," Madam Pomfrey said. "Your sister should be awake by the first quidditch game of the season. Until then all she is going to do is rest."

"And if she wakes up sooner?" Milford asked.

"I will keep her here until I give clearance," Madam Pomfrey explained.

*******

A few days passed, it was the morning of the first Quidditch game, Chloe woke up to the sight of a man with long hair strawberry blonde hair pulled back in a low ponytail, he had a black eye, wearing rings on his fingers. Tattoo of a magpie on his arm.

"Adam!" Chloe exclaimed as she sat up. Adam looked over at her and smiled. "What are you doing here?"

"I heard you had a misfortune crossing with a troll," Adam said. "Plus, you did ask me to come today."

"You were able to take off?" Chloe asked.

"I wasn't about to miss the first quidditch game of Harry Potter," Adam said as he rubbed the top of her head.

"Did you get hurt during practice?" Chloe asked as she nodded to his eye.

"There was a small bar fight in Hogsmeade," Adam smiled. "Been staying there for a few days. "Keeping Travis company while his girlfriend is away for a few weeks to visit family."

"Is Travis coming as well?" Chloe asked.

"He'll be at the game," Adam confirmed. He sat on the edge of the bed and brought his sister into a hug. They pulled apart at the sound of some squeaking. Chloe looked down to see Clover and Dizzy waking up, they rubbed their eyes, instantly they were all over Chloe and Adam. Chloe started to laugh as well as Adam.  "I asked Dumbledore earlier this week, he's letting me take you and the others to Hogsmeade for a small Thorne sibling get-together."

"But a first-year and second years aren't allowed at Hogsmeade," Chloe recalled.

"Which is why I got permission from your headmaster," Adam said. "Now get dressed, I'm sure friends are going to be happy to see you." Chloe nodded.

Soon Chloe was making her way into the Great Hall with Clover and Dizzy. The moment she walked in, she saw Harry picking at his food.

"You should really eat something before your first game," Chloe advised as she sat between Harry and Seamus.

"Chloe!" Ron lit up as well as Corey. "I would for sure you'd be out for a week!"

"Thankfully we have one of the best healers at Hogwarts," Chloe said. "Madam Pomfrey is amazing."

"That's for sure," Corey agreed. "But you really should eat something Harry, I am only a fill-in for Keeper for when Oliver gets hurt, but eating something will help."

"It will?"Harry asked as he looked more nauseous.

"You need your strength," Seamus said. "Seekers are always the ones that get clobbered by the other team."

"Thanks, Seamus," gloomed Harry.

Chloe looked over at Seamus who piled ketchup onto his sausages.

"Something on your mind?" Seamus asked.

"You are horrible at giving advice," Chloe said. "That's not really something you should say to someone who's never seen a quidditch match or played in one."

"It's the truth," Seamus said. "No need to sugar coat it."

"You are agonizing," Chloe said as she tilted her head. She then transformed herself into Seamus.

"You got eyebrow pattern down," Fred noted.

"Not let's see if she got the bald spot correct," Lee said as he stood up, peering over.

"Shut it," Seamus grumbled as Fred, George, Lee, and Corey laughed with each other.

"Good luck today, Potter," a voice congratulated, they looked to see Professor Snape. "Then again you've proven yourself against a troll, a little game of Quidditch should be easy work for you...even if it is against Slytherin." They then watched him limp away.

*****

Eleven came around, the Quidditch Stands were packed with students, Chloe was with her Ravenclaw house, they were very happy to see her.

"I'm glad you are awake for the first quidditch game," Morag said.

"Would have been a bummer to miss it," Padma added. Some of them had binoculars hanging around their necks. The two teams walked onto the field, Madam Hooch was going to be referring.

"Now, I want a nice fair game, all of you," Madam Hooch instructed. She looked mainly at the Slytherin Quidditch captain. "Mount your brooms, please." All brooms raised off the ground, and the match started. "And the Quaffle is taken immediately by Angelina Johnson of Gryffindor--what an excellent Chaser that girl is, and rather attractive, too--"

"JORDAN!"

"Sorry, Professor." Lee Jordan was commentating on the game as Professor McGonagall watched closely. "And she's really belting along there, a neat pass to Alicia Spinnet, a good friend of Oliver Wood's, last year only a reserve--back go Johnson and --no, the Slytherins have taken the Quaffle, Slytherin Captain Marcus Flint gains the Quaffle and off he goes--Flint flying like an eagle up there--he's going to sc--and stopped by an excellent move bt Gryffindor Keeper Wood and Gryffindors take the Quaffle--that's Cagser Katie Bell of Gryffindor, nice dive around Flint, off up the field and--OUCH--that must've hurt, hit in the back of the head by a Bludger--Quaffle taken by Slytherins---that's Adrien Pucey speeding off toward the goal posts, but he's blocked by a second Bludger--sent his way by Fred or George Weasley, can't tell which--nice play by the Gryffindor Beater, anyway, and Johnson back in possession of the Quaffle, a clear field ahead and off she goes--really flying--dodges a speeding Bludher--the goal posts are ahead--come on, no, Angelina--Keeper Bletchley dives--misses--GRYFFINDORS SCORE!" Cheers filled the air along with groans.

"The Slytherin's Seeker is pretty cute," Lisa said.

"Terence Higgs?" Sue asked. Lisa nodded.

"Slytherin in possession," Lee reported. "Chaser Pucey ducks two Bludgers, two Weasleys, and Chaser Bell, and speeds toward the--wait a moment--was that the Snitch?" The crowd whispered to each other as Adrian Pucey scored for Slytherin. Everyone watched intensely as the two seekers were neck and neck after the Golden Snitch.

WHAM!

There was a roar of rage as Marcus Flint blocked Harry on purpose.

"FOUL!" Gryffindors shouted, Madam Hooch spoke angrily to Flint, Gryffindors got a free shot.

Lee Jordan was starting to take sides.

"SO--after that obvious and disgusting bit of cheating--"

"Jordan!"

"I mean, after that open and revolting foul--"

"Jordan, I'm warning you--"

"All right, all right. Flint nearly kills the Gryffindor Seeker, which could happen to anyone, I'm sure, so a penalty to Gryffindor, taken by Spinnet, who put it away, no trouble, and we continue to play, Gryffindor still possession."

"What's up with Harry?" Chloe asked. "His broom, like that day in flying lessons." Harry's broom was jerking him all over the place.

"No one else seems to be noticing," Sue frowned.

Lee continued to commentate. "Slytherin in possession--Flint with the Quaffle--passes Spinnet--passes Bell---hit hard in the face by a Bludger, hope it broke his nose--only joking, Professor---Slytherins score--oh, no." Soon everyone had noticed what happens to Harry.

"Dark magic?" Padma asked nervously.

"Can't be," Cho denied. "No one I know at school is that powerful besides the teachers."

"So you think a teacher jinx Harry's broom?" Terry asked.

"I didn't say that," Cho glared at him. "But it is a possibility." Soon Harry got his broom under control and he took off. He was speeding towards the ground. He hit the ground, tumbled a bit, he then stood up looking like he was going to puke. Ee clapped a hand over his mouth, a coughed up a ball.

"I've got the Snitch!" Harry shouted as he waved his hand.

"He didn't catch it, he nearly swallowed it!" hollowed Flint, but it made no difference, everyone was cheering.

"HARRY POTTER CAUGHT THE GOLDEN SNITCH! HARRY POTTER RECEIVES 150 POINTS FOR GRYFFINDOR! GRYFFINDOR WINS THE GAME!"
