TOWER OF DAWN
TOWER OF DAWN
_____________
I used to hate Chaol Westfall.
Ever since Throne of Glass, I've always hated him. His character never had much depth, and when he blamed Aelin for everything that went wrong in Queen of Shadows, I hated him even more. I honestly was dreading Tower of Dawn because I did not want to read a book solely about Chaol (and Nesryn, whom I like).
I just finished Tower of Dawn.
And I no longer hate Chaol.
There'll be a section with spoilers (which is marked) and then a section with no spoilers (which is also marked).
*spoilers*
The "epilogue" part killed me.
I don't know if it was supposed to be an epilogue or just another chapter, but damn. When I saw that it was titled "Fireheart" I knew what was coming.
Aelin.
So she just married Rowan before she got captured by Maeve. And Chaol and Yrene got married, too. So now, we just have to wait for Manon and Dorian, Nesryn and Sartuq, and Lysandra and Aedion. That is, if Aedion ever stops hating Lysandra for the part she played in Aelin's capture.
Also, the part at the end where it says "the series will continue in 2018".
Are you kidding me? I have to wait a whole other year for the conclusion?! I have to wait a year to find out what torture Aelin goes through?! I have to wait a year to read about Manon and Dorian's kinky sex?! I have to wait a year to see the final battle?!
I'm done. I'm out.
That's a lie, there's no way out.
But damn, let's talk about Chaol's character development. He started off as the macho soldier man saying "no I don't need to talk about my feelings, just heal my legs so I can go to war and die like a real man" and that was pretty annoying. But then Yrene goes into the Valg infestation that manifested in his spine, and he slowly begins to heal.
Of course, that all is shattered when the fight with Duva happens. But that's not the point.
My point is that...I actually don't really have a point. Chaol and Yrene have lots of sex, though. That's kind of a point.
Nesryn and Sartuq are such a power couple. And now that Sartuq is heir...does that make Nesryn the Queen? Is she a Queen like Aelin? Because that would definitely be badass. God, I love Nesryn. And I'm really glad she and Chaol didn't end up together because I never really felt a connection between them. It was strained and awkward.
And now Lysrandra has a long-lost uncle who's also a shifter. Will they use him sometimes to portray Aelin? Will he have to have sex with Aedion? Who knows?
I kind of hope that Yrene is Fae. It would make total sense since she obviously gets in contact with Silba (the goddess of healing) multiple times, and the other Fae seem to each have a special god looking out for them (see Empire of Storm). It would kind of be ironic since Chaol stopped loving Aelin because she was Fae. Then again, Yrene married the captain of the guard from Adarlan, and those soldiers murdered her mother so...it seems irony is the third person in their relationship. Also, Yrene is great. I really loved her character in Assassin's Blade, and was so happy to see her make a reappearance. The entire book, I was waiting for Chaol to find out that his former lover was the sole reason that his wife ended up in Antica so that he could meet her.
I just love it when these things go full circle.
*end of spoilers*
Tower of Dawn was such a great book. If you haven't read it, go read it. But first, read the entire Throne of Glass series.
It has bloodlust, battles, death, assassins, depression (Aelin was definitely depressed after someone's death (no spoilers here) and Chaol was depressed in Tower of Dawn), love, deadly yet hot Fae, and sex. Lots and lots of sex.
I'm going to read Throne of Glass, and remember a time when life was simpler. When the King of Ardalan was the only bad guy, and Celeana's biggest worry was winning the competition.
Life was so much easier back then.
