Chapter-7: Not a fan of this Fan!!
I run a hand through my hairs trying to get out any tangles in them. I look at myself in the mirror before getting out of the car. Asher adjusts his tie before asking me if I am ready.
"Yes! Let's do this," I tell him before pressing the doorbell. A few minutes later a man in his early thirties maybe opens the door for us.
"Yes?" He looks at us waiting for us to answer.
"Hello! I am Asher Bradfort and this is Ariella Campbell. We are interns at 'G+B'," Asher says, showing him the ID.
"Oh! Great. We were waiting for you," He opens the door wide for us to enter, leading us to the living room.
As I enter the room, I see there is nothing in there. It's absolutely empty.
"I am Emmanuel and this is my boyfriend Richard," We shake hands with each other.
"We bought this house recently. We are still living in our previous apartment. We just want this house to be fully furnished when we shift here. We know, it will take you guys a lot of work," Richard says to us.
"But we want it to be perfect when we bring our daughter Jasmine," Emmanuel continues.
"Don't worry! You can trust Gaby and Bruce. And all the people working there. You will have a beautiful house," I smile a little at them.
"So, let's have a look around the house. Shall we?" I ask them and we start looking around.
The house looks like the most suburban houses. On entering the door, there is a small hallway. On the left, they have their living room. The living room is quite big. It has a nice wooden flooring and little fireplace also.
They lead us to the kitchen. When I see the kitchen, I fell absolutely in love. I really like the concept of the open kitchen. There is no barrier between the dining room and kitchen. It gives an illusion of a larger space.
"This black marble counter-top is really standing out," I tell them.
"Yeah! I really love the kitchen. I love cooking for friends and family. And this kitchen looks like my dream kitchen. I am planning to put bar stools for seating over that counter," Richard says, excitedly pointing at it.
"That's a great idea," I write that down in my notepad. Asher and I decided on our way that I would be writing down the briefs and everything while he would click the pictures.
"Let's see the bedroom. Shall we?" I ask and they nod, leading us to the bedroom.
"This is the master bedroom. There is a walk-in closet and an attached bathroom. There is this fan which we really are not a fan of. You get the humour right," Emmanuel says and starts laughing. Me and Asher look at each other confused.
"Fan, we are not fans of," He explains.
"Yeah...." I say dragging it out, not finding humor in it all.
"Totally!" Asher attempts a fake laugh.
"Give me my hundred now!" Richard extends his hand in front of Emmanuel. He grumpily places a hundred dollar in his hand. I look at Asher from the corner of my eyes. He scratches the back of his head.
"I told him no one would laugh at that joke. But he kept saying it's a killer joke. So we made a bet. Obviously! I won," Richard explains making me chuckle a little.
"You all just don't have a good sense of humor," Emmanuel complains to which Richard rolls his eyes.
"Anyways! We don't want that fan," He adds and I jot that down quickly.
We take the rest of the tour quickly. There were two rooms upstairs. One had an attached bathroom that was meant for Jasmine and the other one was supposed to act as a guest room.
There was a small garden space at the back of the house which can also be used as an area for six-year old Jasmine to play with her friends.
"So, how would you describe your style? Like what do you expect," I ask them, ready with my pen to note it down.
"We both have different styles. I like it more along the clean lines while he likes the rustic vibe. It would be great if somehow we can get both," Richard explains to me.
"Also we would like a little green in this house. It feels lively inside and all," He adds.
"We have some old furniture and stuff in our apartment that we will bring here. Other than that, we have to buy the majority of the stuff. But we don't want to clutter up the house with a lot of stuff," Emmanuel tells me.
"Okay! I have all that written down. Anything else."
"It would be great if we could have a bookshelf. I love reading novels and I have so many of them. I want a proper place for them," Richard says to me.
"We trust you guys that you will do great," He smiles at me.
"I have all that written down. Sir and Ma'am will get in touch with you," I close the notepad and put it in my bag.
Me and Asher get back in the car and I look at the time to see it's 2:30 p.m. That took a lot of time. I take out my phone and open the camera.
"Hey Asher. Look here!" He looks into the camera and I take a selfie of us.
"What was that?" He asks me.
"I want to have all these memories with me of the internship. Don't know about the job at the end. But I want to make this time memorable. So, I decided to capture important moments," I tell him.
"This was like the first thing where I felt like we were actually working," He says, getting my point.
"Exactly!"
"Let's eat something. I am starving," Asher says, pulling the car on the road.
"Sure?"
We see a ramen shop nearby and decide to eat there only. I order a miso soup ramen with chicken while Asher orders a spicy pork ramen bowl.
"Show me the photos you took," I say.
"Sure! Don't scroll yourself though," He takes out his phone, looks at it for a few seconds and then puts it on the table. He starts scrolling through the photos.
"Wait," He says suddenly and takes the phone near him. He scrolls down some photos and then puts it down on the table.
"What was that?"
"Nothing," He shrugs, gripping the phone tightly in his head.
"You are weird!" I say, folding my arms.
"Maybe!" Just then the waiter comes and puts our ramen bowls in front of us.
"Smell delicious! Let's just eat," Asher says putting the phone back in his pocket. I try not to give too much thought and concentrate on the food in front of me.
Once we are back on the road, I turn on the radio. 'Mercy' by Shawn Mendes starts playing.
"I love this song," I say excitedly turning the volume up.
"Please have mercy on me. Take it easy on my heart," I sing along making Asher laugh.
"I really like it!" I pout my lips and continue to sing.
"You are cute Ella!" He says chuckling, making me blush.
"Thank you," I look down at my hands not knowing what else to say. Asher looks at me from the corners of his eyes.
"Consuming all the air inside my lungs Ripping all the skin from off my bones," He starts singing along.
"Let's sing," He says and I join him, thankful that the subject has been changed. We are out of tune but still enjoy our own little concert. He suddenly stops the car.
"What happened?" I ask and he just nods in front. I see a long traffic in front of me.
"Let's hope we get back on time. It's 4 already," He says.
It's been twenty minutes and we have barely moved. I close my eyes feeling tired of waiting. This will take forever.
"Hey! Ariella. Wake up!" I could hear someone's faint voice.
"Let me sleep. I am tired," I don't want to wake up. Someone pokes a finger on my side making me jump slightly.
"What happened!" I rub my eyes and take in the surroundings near me. I realise I am still in the car with Asher.
"What time is it?" I ask him.
"6:30 p.m. You fell asleep while waiting for the traffic to clear. There was actually an accident. That's why it took too long," He explains. I look at myself in the mirror. My hair is a mess. I run a hand through them putting it in a bun.
"Tell me your house. I will drop you before dropping the car back at Henry's house," He says. I tell him the direction. Twenty minutes later, he pulls in front of the apartment.
"Thank you," I say getting out of the car.
"Don't mention it," He says.
"See you tomorrow. Bye!" I say going inside the apartment.
"Hey Ella!" He calls out.
"Yeah!" I turn around.
"I had a nice time," He says smiling a little.
"It was fun," I say, genuinely enjoying the time.
I watch as he drives away. I climb up the stairs and open the door to the apartment. I see Wyatt in the kitchen.
"Hey!" I say to him.
"Hey," He replies. I slump down on the sofa feeling tired.
"Just a question, Ariella. Why are all your stuff in the living room?" Wyatt asks me.
"I was running late. So, I left all the stuff here. Sorry! I will just put it all in my room," I say getting up.
"It's okay. You can do it after a little rest. Want some coffee?" He asks me.
"Yeah! Coffee would be nice," I say.
He hands me a cup and sit on the other corner of the sofa. He switches on the television and flips through the channel stopping on some sports channel. He watches intently, his eyes following the players on the screen while he quietly sip on his coffee.
I sit there quiet, thinking if I should start some conversation or not. Or is the silence okay for the first day. It feels weird to me a little bit. I finish my coffee quickly and put the cup in the sink.
"Thank you for the coffee," I say to him.
"No problem," His eyes still fixed on the television. I quickly go to my room dragging one of the suitcase with me. The wheels make an annoying noise and I stop suddenly.
"Sorry! I will just pick it up," I say.
When I am finally in the room, I take a sigh of relief. I look around and then realise something.
"Oh Fuck!!" I curse loudly. How can I be so stupid?
"What happened?" I see Wyatt standing at my door with a perplexed look on his face.
