Chapter-21: I am going to be dead!
Grabbing my phone, I turn off the blaring alarm. My head hurts like hell and I squint my eyes trying to adjust to the light in the room. I feel a movement beside me and I turn around to see Wyatt's face. I feel like someone poured a bucket of ice cold water on me when the events from last night come rushing back to my mind. I can't believe at my stupidity. After high school, this is the first time I had sex and I decided to hookup with my flatmate. Way to go, Ari!
I decide to just leave as discreetly as I can without waking him up to avoid any awkward morning confrontation. My eyes scan around the room and I find my clothes scattered on the floor.
Removing the sheets slowly, I tiptoe towards my clothes and pick them up. I rush quickly out of his room and close the door behind me. I need to get out of the house as soon as possible.
I take a quick shower and dress myself for work. I open the door slightly and peek outside to make sure Wyatt is not there. I breathe a sigh of relief when I don't see him. I grab an apple from the counter and rush out.
Grabbing a coffee on the way, I reach the site.
"I am so sorry!" I say entering through the door.
"Good thing, Gaby and Layla are not here. Otherwise you would have been a dead meat," Aaron says, making me laugh.
"They are in market hunting down tile places and paints for Jasmine's room," he tells me.
"I thought Gaby said that Layla and I had to do that," I ask.
"Yeah! But Gaby wanted to do some kind of business proposal with the Brutun's Tile Company. So, she thought it was best to kill two birds with a single stone," he explains and I nod in his direction.
"You know, you guys are the luckiest intern we had in the company by far," he says, catching my attention.
"What do you mean?"
"This is the first time that Gaby and Bruce took an intern under their wing. That way, you guys get to experience all of this stuff. Being in site and talking to clients. Earlier, interns were given works like printing, mailing, ordering packages, picking up packages etc. This year, they both had different perspective. They wanted you guys to learn. When I was an intern few years back, all I got to do was make coffee," he laughs.
"I guess we just got lucky!" I smile at him.
"Now, Ms. Lucky get to work. Look after the work in the kitchen," he says.
"Yes captain," I saying, saluting him.
"Let me see what is Asher doing with the bedroom."
"Wait! Asher is here?" I ask, suddenly feeling anxious.
"Yeah, working in the master bedroom," the ringtone of his phone cuts him off. I walk towards the master bedroom leaving Aaron in the living room.
When I enter, I see Asher looking around the room with an unreadable expression.
"What are you thinking so hard about?" I say, catching his attention. His eyes flicker towards me and a small smile spreads across his face.
"I was thinking about the furniture placement. I mean, at the end of the day Gaby decides what goes where but I still want a try," he says.
"Of course you are."
"Would you like to grab a bite after this?" He asks, looking at me intently.
"Sure! I am always starving," I say, patting my stomach making him laugh.
In the afternoon, Gaby came along with Layla to check on the site. They had paint buckets and tile samples for us to see. We settled on White tiles for the kitchen arranged in Herringbone style while for the bathroom we decided the Horizontal offset placement.
"So, Layla and Aaron had already placed the Furniture order. It will reach here by Saturday. The movers will bring all their stuff on Saturday too. So, no holiday for you guys. Let's finish this project and then you get your day off," Gaby says, making us all groan.
"Aaron, you know what to do when the tile parcel arrives tomorrow. We have to get the tiles done by tomorrow. Even if that means staying up late. Since, we have no other work for today excepting painting Jasmine's room, we are free," she says.
After wrapping up the work, Asher asked me if I was still up for a bite. Being the foodie that I am, I instantly said yes. We stopped at a small bistro pub and ordered a bucket of fried chicken.
"So, how was working with Bruce?" I ask him as soon as we settle into our booth.
"It was amazing. I got to learn so much. I even got to work in Bruce's carpentry workshop. He made that custom table himself and I was in awe," he tells me excitedly like a kid talking about Christmas.
"That sounds interesting!" I say and he nods.
"It was," he says and shows me the photo of that table. He showed me the final look of the office along with couple other photos.
"This looks amazing," I say. I smile to see myself when I see that Bruce used my idea of separation.
"Mr. Holder loved his office. I am pretty sure that we will get the penthouse assignment too," he says and the waiter places our order infront of us.
"How was everything with Gaby?" He asks and I start to tell him all about it.
"Layla and Aaron are pretty great people to work with," I tell him honestly.
"Yeah! Everyone is great."
My phone buzzes loudly and I look it is Wyatt calling. The last night comes flashing and I remember how I practically ran out of the house. I keep staring at the phone's screen contemplating whether to pick it up or not.
"Will you pick it up?" Asher asks.
"Yeah," I give him a small smile but the call ends making me feel relieved slightly. But it starts ringing again in my hand and I pick up.
"Hello," I say.
"There is a woman looking for you at the house," he says.
"Who?" Who can possibly be there looking for me?
"Someone named Julia!"
"Holy shit!" I say and Asher raises an eyebrow at me. But I don't have time to worry about his expression because I am going to be so dead now!
