Just like every other year
I remember all of the good things
That happened in the last 365 days
This year I say
Thank you 2017

My year started off
With starting my Ph.D.
A long dream of mine
That was put on the back burner
Due to ME

For 6 classes
I've had a 4.0 GPA
The highest I've ever had
Making me believe in myself
Even more

I went to the Bahamas
For my birthday week
Where I finished my
Open water certification
I've never lived on a dive boat before

Other than the cert
I crossed quite a few things
Off my list to do on that trip
I met amazing people
Dived a blue hole
And cleared 100 feet

Also added 11 dives to make
My current total at 34
Remember I've been scuba diving
Since I was 15

Spending my 34th Birthday
On a dive boat
With lots of adventures
In the Bahamas
Was beyond amazing

Seeing my favorite singer
In concert after 5 years
Was heavenly

Went to Denver
Met a lot of people
During the in-res weekend
Chose a topic for my dissertation

Got to spend time with friends
Go for walks
Enjoy nature
And though there were
Setbacks

The good outweighed the bad
Everyone who didn't belong
In my life
Walked themselves out

I have no regrets
Never did
Today
I spend NYE at home
Because this time
It is my choice

So as the last day
Of this year starts and ends,
