For the first time
In my life
My hard work has
Paid off in spades

I was invited to be part of an
Honor society
My school is associated with
Prior to doing my doctorate
I didn't know you had to be invited

That unlike a scholarship
Or grant
That one can apply for
Here your grades speak for you

Usually takes a year before
They evaluate you
To make sure
Their requirements are met

And even though from my school
Among those that I know
I'm not the only one to receive
The invitation

I am the only one who has
Gone through and continue to go
Through immense health issues
Setbacks continue
Though I fight

I may or may not keep the 4.0 forever
ME will always be with me
The setbacks I will fight into dormancy
Yet again
One way or another

I'm proud of me
I hope others are too
I pray it gives them more
Incentive to fight
