Disrespect

Went to a WWII

Massacre memorial

Saw something that

Made me cringe with disgust

People come and pose

In front of different monuments

Like they were in an amusement park

The blatant

Disrespect

Was hard to ignore or swallow

People

Whole families

Were burned alive

Turned to ash here

This was a literal graveyard

Yet people stand there

And pose

Laughing as they stroll along

As if on a picnic

At one point

My mom actually said

"I have never seen anyone

Pose for pictures in front of

A statue of dead people."

To which the woman

Taking the shots of her

Husband and sons mumbled:

"What would it change?"

My mom didn't hear her

But I did though

I was so overcome by

Feeling spirit to reply

What would it change?

Well how about you

And your family actually realizing

You're a bunch of disrespectful

Ignorant assholes!

That's a start right there!

How would you feel

If someone came to

The gravesite of your loved ones

And posed with the tombstone?

Maybe made the devil horn signs?

That's about as disgusting

As coming to a massacre

And saying "cheese"

With death all around you

Have some decency

Take photos, videos

But of what occurred

Tell the story of the dead

Show the world never to forget

But don't stand and pose

This isn't a museum of art

Or a concrete zoo

It's a mass war grave

The souls crying out for peace

It wasn't just this one woman

And her family

But others as well

It was a shameful showing

Of utter and total disrespect

Towards the victims

It's not even a generational thing

But a lack of proper upbringing

It would be like if someone posed in front

Of the gas chamber in Auschwitz

People need to relearn respect

Towards history

Not create their own upon

The blood of the fallen and the taken

What cannot be undone

Must be changed

Before the next generation

Learns disrespect

Is okay too
