Passing
That night, Dana couldn't fall asleep,
Something felt wrong.
In the middle of the night, her maids gave her a drink:
It had a weird taste, but then darkness swallowed her.
And she felt grateful for it.
She dreamt of him.
And, for a short time, it felt right again.
Maybe...
Maybe he was about to come back.
In her dream, she suddenly began to hear anguished screams,
Rumbles,
Things falling and shattering on the ground.
She heard the voiceof her Ghost:
"Wake up, Dana..."
She woke up.
She couldn't hear a sound, out of her bedchamber,
And this was strange.
No one seemed to be walking around,
She couldn't feel any life in the rooms nearby,
And she got worried.
She took a dress, not really noticing which one
-maybe it was the old white, or the red, or the black, but who would have cared?-
And got in her antechamber,
Hoping her maids, those girls who had served her without really caring about how she felt
Would be there.
They weren't.
The place was deserted, only inhabited by shadows.
Dana ran out of the room,
As the floor was beginning to tremble again.
This was not a dream. This was reality.
She couldn't let shadows get her.
Now she was in the throne room,
Empty as well,
All of the great doors wide open,
Leading to the world outside.
And outside, people were screaming, out of terror
And Dana felt her heart, breaking in her chest.
She knew it had to happened.
They both knew it.
The earthquake was amplifying
She struggled to keep her balance
She had to make it,
The outside world was waiting
For her
To come,
To come out,
To be unveiled.
In her mind, it felt like eternity,
Before she made it out of the palace,
Finding her way through the halls and corridors,
To reach the main entrance.
And what she saw there,
Was Apocalypse.
Her city;
Collapsing.
Buildings;
On fire.
Her people;
Begging for the god's mercy as they were trying to run away.
Dana wanted to weep.
She should have tried to stop that,
At all costs.
She had failed,
And now, she could see the ships getting away from the town,
Abandoning hundreds of her people behind.
She stood on the edge of her palace's parvis,
And a group of fleeing citizens passed her,
Without even shooting a glance at her.
They had not even recognized her, without her crown,
With her dark hair loose and messy.
No longer was she Queen,
No longer would her kingdom live.
Atlantis would fall, tonight.
Atlantis would never see Dawn again.
All boats were gone now,
And she thought some of them might make it,
Away from the dying city.
No.
Not all boats were gone.
She could feel one of them, rather than seeing it.
A great boat with a wooden dragon as a figurehead.
People were hurrying to board...
But Dana could think about this no more.
"You came back.
You came here to set me free."
She felt she was about to cry.
Even if it was too late, the Ghost had come back to get her.
But now, she had to stand her ground.
Alone.
Now, it was her own battle to fight.
"Sail, my love, she whispered."
The ground was still shaking,
But something else was coming, she could feel it in her whole
Body,
Soul,
Mind.
He would look for her,
But would only find her body
Dana wasn't meant to stand outside her walls,
And she knew it.
When the Wave came down,
Her mind shattered,
Like the precious crystal it was,
Which should never have been unveiled.
