Emptiness

The Ghost was gone.

He had left one misty morning,

Maybe aboard some merchant boat,

Or maybe not.

The palace was feeling empty,

As empty as the seashell Dana squeezed in her hand,

So hard she knew she would end up bleeding.

But, if she couldn't cry, then she wanted to feel this pain,

To feel something,

So that she would not feel empty herself.

However,

Maids were working around her,

Preparing their lost Queen to fight the day,

But all felt empty.

The palace felt empty,

Full of servants, counsellors and courtiers, who pretended to care about her,

But did not.

The only one who had ever cared about her

Was Gone.

And it was better like that.

Dana knew it.

At least, one of them would be saved.

"You know I'm not leaving you alone."

These were his words.

His words were here.

Still.

All around her was stillness.

Or so she felt.

Dana got out of the circle of her maids.

She wrapped her arms around her.

She was feeling so cold.

She got out of the circle,

And went back to her room,

Where no one was allowed to follow.

She closed the door,

Stepped into her garden,

Where the Ghost had first appeared

Where the whole sky could see her,

And undressed herself.

Her white dress.

She didn't want to see this clothing again.

From now on,

She hated white.

Until the Ghost would come back.

She didn't care about the whole sky seeing her naked.

She didn't care about anything at all.

She didn't feel anything,

But emptiness.

The sky, full of stars, was so empty.

Dana looked at it,

And weeped.
