Summerchild
You're unaware of all the shadows
You don't know about the dark
Summerchild beneath the willows
No one can revive your spark
Graveyards bloom in spring like meadows
Grass is green and moss is too
You don't know about the shadows
Summerchild, I envy you
Moss on stones and moss on gravestones
Just as soft and just as fair
Worms and grubs on human skull bones
Bugs and beetles in the air
In a coffin you are sleeping
Deep below the earth's concerns
On your grave your family's weeping
Underneath no sunlight burns
Summerchild beneath the willows
Now the graveyard blooms and thrives
Trees and flowers spending shadows
But the autumn still arrives
Then the leaves and petals perish
Everything turns bleak and dark
And the sun will stop to cherish
Life becomes a dying spark
Unforgiving, cruel and crushing
Comes the winter's agony
Into safety all is rushing
Summerchild, but you are free
You're unaware of doom and downfall
Born in warmth you had no clue
Life was peaceful, bright and small -
Summerchild, I envy you
March 2020
