Chapter 4
~10 year later~
I sat on the bed looking at he ground, waking myself up. The vague sunlight from the window helping me. Everything was still as per usual.
I looked behind me, the same old figure of Gilbert shifting. I couldn't help but smile a bit. I almost wish he was my soulmate. Almost. We click well but alas, the universe had other plans. Still our deal stands in place. As long as we're without a soulmate, we stay with each other. A friends with benefits type deal. It's comforting but one of us is inevitably going to find our soulmate. We'll stay friends though.
I got up off the bed, I had to get to work in an hour.
~
The radio show host went on about how the tension's between Italy and Germany are rising as the war went on. An understatement.
It wasn't very important, not to me anyway. I was too busy making myself breakfast to really care. The eggs sizzled in the pan and I sipped at my coffee with an intense amount of sugar as usual. I've been alive for what? 60 years now? Doesn't matter, I'm still a child. Health can kiss my ass, I love food.
I'm craving some of Lovi's amazing pasta now. I guess I'll have it for lunch later.
"I smell food!" Gilbert popped in from the corner. I turned around, immediately turning back to what I was doing once I saw that he was letting it all hang out.
"Put some clothes on first."
"You're one to say that."
"I don't eat naked, Gilbert, I have standards."
He groaned, "Fine, it better be done by the time I get changed."
"We'll see." I chuckled as he ran off. The sizzling eggs filled the room. The radio still going on about the war. The war always brought a sour taste in my mouth. I hated hearing about it, talking about it even more. I'm forced to do it at the restaurant. I almost wish I was stronger I could kick them out for even mentioning. Alas, another inconvenience of the world.
I turned off the stove and grabbed the pan, sliding the eggs onto the plates I set out. Gilbert slid in like five year old he was and sat down now with clothes.
"So, what's the plan for today?"
"Same as always," I sat down. "Go to work, come home, relax, eat, and sleep."
"Mm." He hummed, shoving breakfast into his mouth like it was his last meal. I wasn't any better. We were in a comfortable silence as we ate. "Feli, I've meaning ask you something."
"What?"
"When are you going to introduce me to your brother?" I raised a brow at him. "I mean, you won't even let me come by the restaurant. I'm curious. Would he hate me or something?" He really would. But I thought for a moment. Best to tell him now than to let him find out in the worst way possible.
"Tell you what," I sipped my coffee. "You can come around the restaurant during my lunch break around two. Say you're my roommate, alright?"
"Seems fair."
~
The bell to the restaurant door rang. My last costumer before my lunch break thankfully. I turned around and saw that it was Gilbert. He grinned right when the back door to the kitchen slammed open. Lovi angrily muttering nonsense. I turned around to look at him.
"Is something wrong, Lovi?"
"No."
"Alright." I turned back around and found Gilbert had sat down. I rushed over to him.
"Anything you'd like?"
"An introduction maybe." He smirked.
"Alright, then, I'll give you my personal favorite." I scribbled down the order on my notepad, ripped it off, and gave it to Lovi. I ignored the confused look he gave me and went to sit down with Gilbert in the booth he chose.
"I don't think I ever told you this but I actually have a little brother."
"Wait, really?"
"Yes, really. He's a lot younger than me though."
"How young exactly?"
"10 years."
"Hm, maybe I'll get to meet him."
"Doubt it."
"Why?"
"Crazy bastard signed up for the war."
I frowned, "What a shame."
"Feli," Lovi stepped up to the booth. We both whipped our heads at him "mind telling me who this is?"
"I'm Feli's roommate." Gilbert said proudly.
"Roommate?"
"Yes, I help him pay rent." Lovi gave me a skeptical look.
"He's a good person, Lovi." I said trying to act like this morning Gilbert wasn't running around the apartment naked.
"How did you two meet?" I was expecting this question from him. I thought up an answer awhile ago that wasn't that we met drunk at a bar.
"At the coffee shop down the street." Gilbert took a quick glance at me.
"I accidentally spilled on your poor brother here." He chuckled. Lovi only rolled his eyes and walked away. "I thought we were pretty bad liars." I couldn't help but laugh.
"Guess we aren't."
