Chapter 1

"there's a baby!"

It was a day unlike any other. and yes that does seem cliche, but in a magical town like Encanto, it was serious. the town is used to sunny days since one of its residents can control the weather (we'll get back to that later) so when it suddenly started storming the town seeker out said resident.

She said it wasn't her. she couldn't do anything. her mother told the town to seek shelter, forget the daily chores for the day and to stay safe and dry. What no one expected was lighting strikes to hit one of the homes, effectively killing any occupants. the town almost didn't make a move, as the house was known to be unoccupied, until a young teenager with super hearing called out about the sounds of people dying, the tears pouring out of her were disguised by the rain.

The main family in the town, the sole reason the village was so magical, ran for the burning home. the rain helping if only to dim the burins light source slightly but not fully extinguish it.

one of the children in the house was able to lift the broken rubble with her hands alone, the village of course helping as much as they could, despite being without magic in their veins. the eldest child in the magical family yelled out suddenly, causing everyone to halt their movements. "wait! hold on! a baby.. there's a baby in there! i can hear it! keep digging!"

with her words, more people joined in to dig, others running with buckets filled with the rain water to put out the flames as soon as possible.

it took an hour but once the tiled floors can be seen and all the fires are out, an eight month pregnant women, along with her super strong daughter and accident prone husband by her sides, she searched the place with a bag with an enclosed bowl of freshly cooked and still warm soup. she walked with her eldest niece and the town's priest, trying to pinpoint the only survivor of this tragic accident.

hands cupped around her ears and the town standing off to the side, staying as quiet as they could to help her focus better. the storm had calmed down dramatically after its destruction, with a small drizzle that seems to linger for Encanto.

she pointed where the nursery is — used to be. her strong cousin dug around where she pointed to uncover a baby. he was wrapped in his blanket, stored safely in a cabinet that was covered in its own ceiling. he was pulled out carefully and placed in the healer's kind arms.

she cooed softly at the child, rocking him slightly as her husband quickly pulled his jacket over the two to keep them dry. she held the boy with care as she checked for any injures like cuts and bruises, but what she finds is much worse.
