Blood Spills

"War continues to ravage Europe. But help is on the way! Every able-bodied young man can help to serve his country." the deep voice announced over the American National Anthem. As the screen flashed pictures of soldiers. Steve watched the young men on the screen with their guns to their chests. He should be there, fighting. Beck put her hand on top of his and smiled at him, trying to help him think of other things.

"Who cares?!" A guy a couple rows down from them shouted. "Play the movie already!"

"Hey, will you show some respect?" Steve whispered.

"Meanwhile, overseas, our boys are showing that the price of freedom is never too high."

"Hey! Get on with it! Just start the cartoon!" the guy shouted again. Steve leaned forward in his seat and Beck sighed.

"Hey, will you shut up?" Steve hated disrespect. They guy who had been shouting stood slowly to intimidate Steve. It was one of the guys from the diner.

"Are you gonna make me?"

"Steve, don't... please." Rebecca pleaded.

"Yea, Steve, listen to your sow."

"Take it outside!" someone ordered. So the guy grabbed Steve by the collar of his shirt and dragged him into the alley behind the theater.

"Please stop!" Beck cried as Steve hit the ground. He scrambled to his feet frantically, watching and waiting to dodge another punch. The guy hit him anyway and knocked Steve into a wall. He grabbed a trash can lid and held it out. The guy just grabbed it and tossed it aside, swinging his fist again.

"You just don't know when to give up, do you?" he asked.

"I can do this all day." Steve spit a little blood onto the ground and held up his fists.

"Stop it!" she screamed.

"Hey, shut up, bitch." the guy growled.

"Don't call her that!" Steve lunged forward and swung his fist but got knocked down before he could hit the guy.

"Keep it up, pal, I'll have my way with her and make you watch."
