Blood Boils.
"Good morning, doll." Steve greeted with a big smile as he walked in the library doo, making the small bell ring out and break the dusty silence.
"Good morning." Rebecca smiled back, tapping a stack of books on the counter to even them out. "How did it go this time?"
Steve sighed. He'd tried several times to join the army, but no one would ever give him a chance. They'd take one look at him and his size and tell him he wasn't fit to fight in the army or to do anything else. Beck never judged him, that was why he loved her.
"How are you? Anybody give you any trouble this morning?" he asked, almost angrily. A big group of stupid guys picked on her on her way to work every morning as she walked by them on her way to work at the library.
"N-No."
"They did." Steve sighed. He followed her between bookshelves, watching her stretch to put the books in their proper places. He hated those guys, they never gave her a break. They shouted harsh things about her weight and then made vulgar comments about certain parts of her body, it made Steve's blood boil.
"Now, Steve, don't go off and get into another fight." She begged. Steve growled. Despite his small size, Steve got into a lot of fights, he never won them but he never gave up either.
"Beck, their just jerks. Don't listen to anything they say." he buried his rage and stood behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist as she flipped through one of the books.
"I just... They're so..." she gave up on finding the right word and turned to face Steve.
"Hey," he looked into her grey eyes and tucked some brown hair behind her ear. "You know you're beautiful." She scoffed, turning out of his hold to walk back behind he counter. She didn't believe hm. She never did. "You are, Beck." he watched her sit in her chair and look down at her lap. "You wanna do something tonight? C'mon, Beck, I'll take you out. Anywhere you want to go. Promise." he leaned against her desk to get closer to her. "Come on..." he grinned when he saw her lips pull back. "Beck..."
"Alright."
"Tell me what you want."
"I want to... get pizza."
"And?"
"See a film."
"You got it." he kissed her cheek. "I'll come get you when you get off." Steve jumped away from the counter and skipped out the door. He came back at five, when the library closed. Beck waited inside for him because f she went outside without Steve, she was sure those guys would just happen to stroll by again. "Hey, baby." Steve kissed her cheek when she stepped out onto the sidewalk to meet him. "You ready?" he asked, holding out his hand for her.
She nodded and slipped her fingers between his and they walked together to the diner a couple blocks away.
