Chapter 68

The next day, when everyone got to the theater, they decided to do their first tour Ham4Ham show. About a hundred fans had heard about it somehow and gathered by the stage door, but it wasn't a huge crowd, which was sort of good.

"Hello, hello, hello!" Lin says. Everyone claps. "We have quite a treat for you all today, since it is our first ever Ham4Ham show on this tour! Ladies and gentlemen, please welcome our tour Angelica Schuyler, Lana Carnell, and our original Broadway Angelica Schuyler, Renee Elise Goldsberry!"

The crowd explodes with cheers, as both women start to sing.

"A toast to the groom,"

The rest of the cast joins in with the ensemble parts, "to the groom, to the groom!"

"To the bride,"

"To the bride, to the bride!"

"From your sister," Lana sings.

"Angelica," Renee sings.

"Who is always by your side," they both harmonize with each other.

They go the whole way through the song, with Pippa and Lin joining in on their lines, and most of the crowd goes wild when they're done.

"Good luck with the lotto!" Lin screams into his megaphone, and then, everybody goes back into the theater.

As they're all going back in, however, the girls can't help but notice somebody in the front row who doesn't seem to excited about everything that is going on. As the matter of fact, he seemed rather bitter about something.

It was somebody that they all knew.

Somebody named James.

"What was that all about?" Pippa whispers to Jazzy, once they're inside.

"I don't know. Do you think that Lana noticed?"

"Judging by the way that she ran in here so quickly, I would think so."

"That's what I was afraid of. I hope that she's not too shook up by it. He did seem to be giving her the stink eye the whole time, though," Jazzy comments.

"I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed. God, he's such a creep."

"You can say that again," Jazzy nods.

The two girls go into their dressing room, and find Lana already getting changed for the show.

"Hey Lana," Pippa says. No response. "What's up?"

"Do you really care?" Lana snaps. Pippa jumps at Lana's harsh tone.

"Well, yes," she says, trying to be sensitive.

"Well, I think it's pretty obvious what I'm doing. In case you couldn't tell, I'm putting on makeup for the show, which you should be doing too, because curtain is in 30 minutes."

Jazzy and Pippa exchange glances, and decide to not question Lana.

"Let's go see who's onstage and who's out today, Pippa," Jazzy says, and the two of them head to the call board. They see what's wrong almost immediately.

"James is on for Brett. He must be taking a day to rest. He was up pretty late last night at the James tutoring," Pippa thinks out loud.

"Well, that's definitely what's making Lana snippy. Let's go see how Kaitlyn and Carleigh are dealing with that."

When Jazzy and Pippa make it to the ensemble dressing room, they find Kaitlyn and Carleigh whispering in the corner. Kaitlyn is winding her hair up into space buns while she is listening to Carleigh.

"Did you guys hear the news?" Jazzy asks, rolling her eyes.

"That James is going on for Brett? I've spent the last 20 minutes trying to forget," Kaitlyn admits.

"How late were you guys here last night again?" Pippa inquires.

"Until 1:30. I'm not surprised that Brett took off, though. He's been stressed enough recently. He doesn't need to be sleep deprived on top of all of it," Kaitlyn tells them.

"I feel bad for him," Carleigh says. "He's so worried about trying to live up to Lin as Hamilton."

"He's going to be so great!" Pippa protests.

"Girl, you had better not just be saying that because you're excited about kissing him every night!" Kaitlyn says, laughing.

"Oh brother," Pippa rolls her eyes. "You know that's not what I mean. I'm not the one that has a crush on him here."

"Good. Keep it that way." Kaitlyn sounds like an overprotective father as she says that.

Everyone starts to laugh.

"Shouldn't you two be getting ready? It's only fifteen minutes until places," Carleigh comments.

"We are hiding from Lana. She's stressed over James, and well, we all know how she takes out her stress," Jazzy admits.

"Go get dressed, you two. We will see you out there," Kaitlyn says.

"You too. Break a leg with James," Pippa replies.

"Oh we will. Probably literally," Carleigh says. Everyone laughs, and Pippa and Jazzy head back to their dressing room.

Once they get back, Lana isn't there. They assume that she went to the green room or something, and Jazzy is relieved. Pippa is a little bit worried about Lana's location, but doesn't fret too much. She has to get ready.

They turn on the Fun Home soundtrack, do their hair and makeup, then tie each other into their corsets, step into their dresses. After that, they're ready for the show.
