Chapter 66

After the show, the Schuyler Sisters are hanging out in their dressing room, when they hear a knock.

"I wonder who that is?" Jazzy questions. "Is anybody gonna get the door?"

"I'm actually really comfortable right here," Pippa replies. She is in a very strange position, hanging upside down off of the couch.

"Same," Lana replies, sprawled out on the floor with her arms and legs spread into a giant X.

"Okay, fine. Make me get it, even though I'm furthest from the door," Jazzy rolls her eyes, stepping over Lana. "You look like you're making a snow angel, by the way, Lana."

"Okay," Lana replies.

Jazzy opens the door, to reveal James. Both Pippa and Lana quickly snap into more normal positions.

"Oh God, I don't have abs!" Pippa groans, as she tries to hoist her body up. Lana starts to laugh, but quickly stops, when James walks over and puts his hands on her shoulders.

Lana's body tenses up.

"I just wanted to tell you that you were amazing tonight, baby."

"Get lost, James," Pippa spits.

"There's no need to be harsh, little one," James tells Pippa.

"What?!" Pippa asks.

"You just seem like you're a lot younger than everyone else here. Aren't you?"

"No," Pippa shakes her head. "I will have you know that I am the same age as a bunch of the ensemblists, and only a year younger that Jazzy. Now, please leave." Her voice is loud and harsh by the end of her sentence.

"Hey, hey, hey, Pip. What's going on in here?" a voice asks, in the hallway.

"Renee!" Pippa squeals, running to hug her friend. "Can you get him to go away?"

"James, we need to have some girl talk. Could you please go somewhere else?" Renee asks, sweetly.

"Who are you, even?" James rolls his eyes.

"James. Leave. NOW!" Pippa says, getting right in his face. "If you don't leave, then I will go get the security guard and have him remove you from the premise."

"Oh my God, calm down. The hormone levels in this room are much too high for me, anyway. Bye ladies!"

Pippa slams the door behind James and locks it so that he can't come back.

"Okay, what on earth was that? Pippa, I've never seen you so mad," Renee asks.

"You clearly didn't see her after the Brett incident," Jazzy mutters.

"Hey, we agreed not to talk about that," Lana butts in.

"Sorry," Jazzy apologizes. "I'm just saying that she was mad. She's losing her pureness."

"Oh please, Jazzy," Pippa laughs. "I was just trying to protect Lana. Sister's promise."

"Who was that?" Renee asks.

"That was James. He's going to be Brett's ensemble replacement, and he's a mega-creep," Jazzy explains.

"He and I used to date," Lana admits. "It got... weird."

She doesn't say anymore, but something unspoken speaks even louder than what Lana did say. Renee understands.

"Oh. I'm sorry, sweetie," Renee says. "How much interaction do you have to have with him?"

"Not much, but more than I would like. Especially when he decides to come and just find me before or after the shows, just so that he would have an excuse to talk to me."

"That's hard."

"What should we do, Renee?" Pippa asks.

"Hmm. Well, we will have to think on that one."

After a moment of silence, Jazzy jumps up.

"Oh my gosh, Renee! Guess what?"

"What's up, Jas?"

"Anthony proposed to me!"

"Oh my gosh! Jas, seriously? That's so amazing! Did you say yes?!" Renee squeals.

"Of course I did!" Jazzy answers.

"I'm so happy for you! Can I see your ring?"

Jazzy proudly shows off the ring that Anthony gave her, and Renee fawns over it. "It's so gorgeous! You're a lucky one, Jas."

"Yeah. I know. I can't believe that I found him."

"So, Pippa. What about you? Any special guys in your life?" Renee asks.

Pippa blushes, and her and Lana exchange glances.

"No... Not really."

"Steven?" Jazzy mouths.

"I mean, I guess there is this one guy that I've been texting, but he doesn't really think of me as anything more than a friend, I don't think. I'd prefer to not talk about it."

Renee is surprised by Pippa's lack of confidence as she says this, but she gets that Pippa doesn't want to talk about something, and knows when to stop. Pippa will talk more when she's ready.

"So, Lana, how's Angelica doing? I've been missing her," Renee laughs, abruptly changing the topic. Smiles grow back onto both Pippa and Lana's face.

"Pretty good. I think that she misses you, though. Would you ever consider coming back out, just for one night, to surprise the audience?"

"Lana, I miss it, but I don't think so. It's your role now, and it would be unethical to take that away from you. Part of me not doing this tour was to show the world that yes, there can be people other than me in that role, and they can do it well."

"That's understandable. I think that people are starting to realize that, but it's certainly been happening slowly."

"I was worried about that. I'm glad that everyone is coming around, though."

"I have to admit, even I was comparing myself to you for a while, but now, I've realized that I'm never going to play the character the same as you. It's going to be different, and people have to accept that."

"You've gotten so much stronger in the role than you were the last time I saw you. I can tell that you have crossed that line."

"Thanks Renee. That literally means everything coming from you," Lana smiles.
