Chapter 41

Jazzy had been texting Renee constantly while Pippa was in the hospital. Renee, being the protective mother that she was, checked in about every hour or two to make sure that Pippa was doing well.

Renee: How's Pippa?

Jazzy: she's doing better. she's out of the hospital now and she's getting her energy back.

Renee: That's good. How would you feel about me flying to London to see your shows?

Jazzy: WHAT REALLY?! YOU'D FLY ACROSS THE OCEAN TO SEE US PERFORM!? WE'D BE SO HAPPY AND I KNOW IT WOULD CHEER PIPPA UP

Renee: I had been thinking about it for a while and I miss you both. That way I can check on Pippa and see you and the rest of the cast, and attend Lin's last show.

Jazzy: YOU WON'T BE AN OCEAN AWAY YOU'LL ONLY BE A MOMENT AWAAAYYY

Renee: Hahaha I miss you Jaz

Jazzy: i miss you lots, too. it's just not the same performing with lana. she's been really snippy lately and it's really starting to irritate me.

Renee: Speaking of Lana and the show, how are Kaitlyn and Carleigh?

Jazzy: kaitlyn's doing great. she's amazing, and then carleigh's covering for pippa. she's doing a fantastic job.

Renee: How's the Kaitlyn/Brett situation?

Jazzy: they're adorable!

Renee: What about you and Ant?

Jazzy: it's been going wonderfully! he's been so nice and he's been checking on pippa when i've been onstage. he's taking me out for dinner tomorrow.

"Jazzy, places are in ten," Jessa said, popping her head in Jazzy's dressing room. She'd been alone in her dressing room for four or five days because of Pippa's sickness. The theatre had enough dressing rooms so that everyone was in pairs this time. It was eerily quiet all the time so Jazzy usually just texted Renee or went to Anthony's dressing room instead.

"Thanks, Jessa," Jazzy replied, turning off her phone.

They did the show, which was a fairly average show. Lana nailed 'Satisfied', for once, and Carleigh did a heart-warming rendition of 'Burn'. Jazzy also felt her own 'Say No to This' was getting a lot better. She could tell that the tour was making her voice even stronger than it had been before.

After the show, Jazzy hung out with Anthony in his dressing room for a while, and then she quickly texted Pippa to tell her that she and Anthony were going out for a late-night snack at a restaurant.

Jazzy: i'm going to be late to the hotel. ant and i are going out.

Pippa: that's fine

Jazzy: if you're not feeling well, i can cancel. anthony will understand.

Pippa: don't cancel! i'm feeling better and i think kaitlyn and brett are just coming back now so i'll text her if i need anything

Jazzy: all right. don't hesitate to call me

Pippa: i'll be fine, go have fun jazzy

Jazzy sighed and put her phone away.

"How's Pippa?" Anthony asked.

"She's feeling better, thankfully," Jazzy said. They started walking to a deli that they had found, which had desserts.

"That's great!" Anthony exclaimed. "So, what's your favorite spot in London?"

Jazzy thought for a moment. "That's so hard. London is my home, I love all of it, but to be honest, I've always loved the London Eye. You know, the Ferris Wheel. It's super touristy, I know, but the view is amazing. Other than that, I love any cafe. They're so cozy."

"I had forgotten that you liked Ferris Wheels," Anthony said, laughing. They sat down at a table and ordered chocolate cake.

"So Renee is coming to London," Jazzy said. Anthony raised his eyebrows.

"Really?"

"Yeah, she wants to check on Pippa and see Lin's last show," Jazzy explained.

"That's fantastic! I miss Renee. Lana is... an interesting person," Anthony said. Jazzy rolled her eyes.

"Interesting is an understatement," she said under her breath.

"She tries, and Renee is a hard act to follow," Anthony reminded Jazzy. "I can understand that. How would you feel if you were Pippa's replacement?"

"I would never equate myself to Phillipa Soo," Jazzy said instantly.

"Exactly. So perhaps Lana is comparing herself too much to Renee. You and Pippa compare Lana to Renee, too. That's a lot of judgement to bear," Anthony reasoned.

"She doesn't make it easy to like her."

"Maybe you need to start over," Anthony suggested.

"Why are you suddenly on Lana's side? For a long time you've hated her as much as everyone else does, and suddenly you're on her side? Did that kiss you shared with her do something to you?" Jazzy demanded.

"It's not like that, Jasmine. I've only ever loved you. I just think you're missing an opportunity for a unique friendship. Lana is talented. She just can't see through Renee's shadow. You have to help her, or she's going to drown in self-deprecation," Anthony said seriously. "Helping others is why we do this show, right? Maybe it's time to start helping those you have a hard time liking. You might be surprised."

Jazzy thoughtfully twirled her fork in her hand before looking back up at Anthony. "I suppose I'll try a little harder."

"This is why I love you, Jasmine Cephas Jones."

The plus side with me not updating two days ago is that you now get two days of updates in a row... lucky you guys!

On another note, I finished community orchestra and it's kinda sad.
