Chapter 174
"Hey Pippa?" Steven asks, while Pippa is getting ready for that evening's show.
"Yeah?"
"Sophia just texted me, and she wants to know how your music is coming along."
Pippa screws up her face with guilt, not wanting to admit the truth to her director. "I haven't looked at it very much..."
Steven laughs. "That's okay... she just wants me to remind you that a week after the tour is over, the vocal director wants to have a meeting with us, and we should be familiar with the score by then."
"Is being able to quote the movie out of thin air able to count as 'familiar?'"
"You should probably at least mark up your music a bit or something..." Steven replies, tactfully. Pippa joins in with his laughter.
"That's probably a good idea... I should start working with my voice teacher again, at least over Skype for the next few weeks, I guess."
"Yeah, that will certainly be helpful," Steven replies. "We could go over things together, too, because if I'm being honest, we are in the same boat here..."
Pippa smiles. "That sounds like a great idea. Not right now, though. Jazzy and Lana should be here any second now, and we are going to have to kick you out so that they can change."
"Alright," Steven chuckles. "Can I do your hair today?"
Pippa raises her eyebrows. "Sure, I guess so. Let me just finish my makeup."
Pippa quickly waves the mascara wand over her eyelashes before using her final setting powder, then handing Steven her hairbrush.
As Steven begins to braid Pippa's hair in a style that is subtly different from her usual one, Jazzy and Lana walk into the room.
"Oh, is Steven doing our hair again?" Lana smirks.
"Well... it started as a Pippa-only offer, but, I mean, if you want me to, then I will," he tells the girls.
"Of course we want you to. You just better hadn't pull my hair," Jazzy remarks.
Pippa rolls her eyes. "You guys are awful."
"Steven is going to do Pippa's hair for their wedding, honestly," Lana tells Jazzy.
"Okay, I don't know what you guys think, but I will have you know that I'm perfectly capable of... well, hiring a stylist," Pippa tells them, both her and Steven blushing a deep red.
"Plus, it's bad luck for me to see her before," Steven adds. "As much as that will kill me."
"He won't be able to marry you because he died of a broken heart from not seeing you for twelve hours, Pippa," Jazzy snickers.
Pippa rolls her eyes. "Did you two eat some drugged Mickey waffles or something? You're acting really weird today."
"Probably," Jazzy replies. "I'm just in a really weird mood today."
"Sebastian wanted to make us our waffles for breakfast, so he probably broke us by drugging them," Lana adds.
Pippa whips her head around, staring blankly at her friends. "You're accusing Lin's toddler of drugging you? God, you two really are in a weird mood today..."
"I think you missed the mood swing memo," Steven whispers in her ear. "Now, your hair is almost done, just a little bit more."
Pippa waits for another minute before Steven announces that he is finished. Pippa inspects her hair in the mirror.
"Not bad, if I do say so myself," she says, kissing Steven's cheek. "Get the weirdos over there now. I have to get dressed."
The girls get ready for the show, and then get their places call. Lana realizes as they're waiting that they only have ten shows left. After this one, it will be nine.
When she tells Jazzy and Pippa this, they can barely believe that it is true. "This tour has seemed to go so fast," Pippa remarks.
"Well, yeah, but when you look back, and think about everything that we have accomplished, it feels like forever in a way," Jazzy says.
"Look at where we are, look at where we started," Lana sings.
"SHUT UP!" Jazzy and Pippa both scream at the same time.
"I'm just saying... we've come a long way. Remember that first tour stop? That bus ride to Portland?"
"God Lana, I've spent the entire tour trying to forget that bus ride. I was so sick that day," Pippa groans.
"You were," Jazzy laughs. "In retrospect, it was kind of funny."
"It was not funny."
Lana rolls her eyes. "You guys are really something."
"We know you love us," Pippa replies, pulling her sister into a big hug. Jazzy joins into the hug.
"I do love you guys. This tour has been such an incredible experience overall, and I honestly think that the best thing to come out of it has been the friends that I've made. Especially you guys."
"I will second that," Pippa replies. "You, Jessa, Kaitlyn... and I've gotten a lot closer with some of the OBC people... even Jazzy, which I didn't think was possible."
Jazzy laughs. "I'll third it."
Before they can say anything else, they hear the opening notes to the show.
"Ten more times," Pippa whispers to her sisters. "Let's do this thing."
