Chapter 163

The cast only had four more days of rehearsal before their final opening. The Walt Disney Theatre was a beautiful theatre- Pippa was thrilled that Orlando was their last stop. After this, she was one flight away from home. For good, this time.

As she was getting ready for rehearsal. Afterwards, she was going to Animal Kingdom with Jazzy, Anthony, and Steven. On the way there the strap on her bag broke.

This wasn't good- she had everything she needed in that bag. And she hadn't packed an extra one. That bag had been her trusty tour bag for a while.

Not many cast members were actually going to Disney that day. Most of the ensemble had press for the second round of touring.

So Pippa had very few people she could ask for a bag. Jessa almost always had hers- it was a navy blue, canvas backpack. Pippa had always been jealous of that backpack, if she were being fair.

"Hey, Jessa, do you mind if I borrow your backpack for Disney today?" Pippa asked, catching up to Jessa as they walked in the stage door.

Jessa jumped several feet in the air when she heard Pippa's voice. "Sorry, of course you can," Jessa said hurriedly. "I just didn't see you. When do you need it by?"

"Right after rehearsal, we have fastpasses we need to catch," Pippa said.

"I'll get it to you as soon as I can," Jessa promised.

Most of rehearsal went by, and Jessa didn't think about the fact that the ring was in her backpack until the last few songs of act two.

This wasn't good.

Crap.

And it wasn't like Jessa could just pull the ring out of her backpack right before she gave it to Pippa... which meant she had about five minutes after they finished rehearsal to find somewhere to put the ring.

Unfortunately, Jessa was wearing leggings and a tank top today, so it wasn't like she could put it in her pocket. And her backpack was sitting in the auditorium with everyone else's stuff. So Pippa could see whatever she did with it.

Crap, crap, crap.

As soon as rehearsal ended, Jessa walked as quickly as possible to her backpack without running.

It took her a few minutes to find the ring- she'd put it in one of the pockets that she almost never used. She almost forgot that pocket was a thing.

By that time, Pippa was walking down the aisle with Steven and Jazzy toward Jessa. Jessa looked frantically around for the nearest cast member.

"Carleigh, catch this, please, and then come to the bathroom with me," Jessa called. Carleigh looked up from her phone just in time, catching the ring box right before it hit her in the face.

Jessa turned around, and not twenty seconds after she'd thrown the ring to Carleigh, Pippa reached her.

"Hey," Pippa greeted. "No rush."

"Here," Jessa said, quickly taking her laptop and her change of clothes out of her backpack. "If some of my crap is still in there, just ignore it."

"Okay, thank you so much, Jessa."

Jessa breathed a sigh of relief and strode up to Carleigh, dragging her confused friend by the arm to the bathroom in the main lobby.

"Okay, what the actual hell is this?" Carleigh demanded. "Is this a ring box? I was under the impression that you were single, Jessamine Bradley."

"Shut up, it's not mine," Jessa said, splashing her face with water. "Can I have it back?"

"What do you mean, it's not yours?" Carleigh asked, crossing her arms.

"Steven asked me to take care of it, and I almost gave it to Pippa because it was in my backpack," Jessa explained. "Keep this quiet, please?"

"Oh my god," Carleigh squealed. "He's going to propose!"

"Trust me, I am very aware of that," Jessa said, rubbing her face with her hand. "This ring has been like a ticking time bomb in the back of my mind. Every time I look at Pippa all I see is that box sitting in my backpack."

"Does anyone else know?"

"Lana, I don't know who else. Don't spread it around."

"Of course not," Carleigh promised. "Thank you for trusting me. I'm glad we worked it out, otherwise you would have had a lot of excuse to make up as to why you had an engagement ring."

"Believe me, I know," Jessa said. "Alright, let's go."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Steven felt bad for Jessa.
Admittedly, he'd been a little panicked when he saw the ring box flying through the air, but it was all okay in the end. If anything, it was a fun story he could tell Pippa later. At least Jessa hadn't accidentally passed it on to Pippa.
At least she hadn't noticed- Jazzy had unknowingly distracted Pippa by making her look at the Animal Kingdom map.
Thank god for Pippa's friends, Steven decided. Otherwise, this whole thing would have been a huge disaster.
