Chapter 139

Beside the call sheet was a new list that Lana noticed when she signed in for the show the next day. It read 'CHECK A BOX AND SIGN THE SHEET TO INDICATE STAYING/LEAVING'.

She saw that most of the original cast members weren't staying. The only one that had checked 'staying' so far was Oak, but Lana was pretty sure that Carleigh was also going to keep doing the tour. She probably hadn't signed in yet, because she was still sick.

Lana checked the 'stay' box. She'd thought about it for a while and realized how much she'd improved since the first tour show. She might as well stay on for another year.

She quickly skimmed over the other cast members who had made their decision. Brett, Kaitlyn, Kaley, and Logan had signed to stay. Jessa's box was still empty.

Lana didn't know what to think about Jessa. Their relationship was probably over- that's what Jessa had made it sound like. It admittedly hurt. A lot.

Jessa had a point- Lana really hadn't planned on coming out to her family at all. That realization made Lana a little apprehensive. What if Jessa was right, and Lana's feelings were just... a phase?

But if it was a phase, then why did Jessa's rejection hurt so much?

"Lana!" someone called, making Lana jerk away from the sign-in sheet.

"Hey, Pips," she said. "You're not staying?"

"No," Pippa said. "Neither is Jazzy."

"You're going to leave me all alone?" Lana asked. "What if there's more drama with... you know, Jessa? Who am I supposed to talk to then?"

"Oh, Lana," Pippa sighed. "There are plenty of people who will support you. And I'm not even sure that Jessa will stay. She's been on the fence about it for a while now."

"What?!"

"You didn't know? She's still deciding. Nothing's for certain," Pippa said. She took the pen gently from Lana and checked 'stay' in Carleigh's box. Lana gave Pippa a weird look. "She wanted me to check the box for her, and she said she'll sign later."

"Jessa's not staying?"

"I didn't say that!" Pippa said quickly. "She just doesn't know if it's the right thing for her anymore. She's struggling with a lot, but she said she'll make up her mind by tomorrow."

"What's she struggling with?" Lana asked. "Is it my fault?"

Pippa scribbled her initials in the sign-in sheet for the show, and then turned around, sighing. "Lana, if you need to talk to Jessa, go talk to her. I'm not about to say things that aren't true. And with what's going on between you, it definitely needs to be a conversation that you need to have face to face. But right now, she probably won't be staying."

Lana frowned, grabbed her bag, and walked to her dressing room.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"You're not staying?" she demanded, walking into the girl's dressing room. All four of the girls turned around. Kaitlyn immediately set her makeup brush down and walked out of the room, quickly followed by Araella and Ariana. Kaley, the swing, was getting her mic, so she wasn't there.
"Who told you that?" Jessa asked.
"Is it true?!"
"I haven't made up my mind, but yeah, I probably won't stay."
"Jessa, listen, if it's because of me, I'm sorry. I never meant for it to get like this between us. It's exactly what I didn't want," Lana said softly.
Jessa put down her phone. "You're right, it never should have gotten to this point between us. Right now, it doesn't look like me staying will do anything for either of us. You'll always be trying to fix things between us, and I'll stress about doing the right thing for our relationship. I don't want to hurt you any more than I already have. I'm leaving so you can have the career you deserve, without worrying about me. You don't need this in your life. There will be other people who will make you just as happy."
"No, there won't. Jessa, look, if you don't want to date me, that's fine. I don't want this to be the end of our friendship, and I don't want you to leave because of me. You deserve Hamilton just as much as I do, and just because we're fighting right now doesn't mean we'll always fight. We can change it right now."
"Lana, I'm sick of thinking about this problem. No matter how hard either of us try, it's not going to turn out between us," Jessa said. "And fighting during a show never got anyone anywhere."
"Then let's not fight, and let's not think. Let's go back to being friends, and forget about everything that happened. Please, Jessa. I don't want to be the reason that you're giving up an amazing career opportunity, and I definitely don't want to stop being friends with you. Your friendship is worth more to me than dating you."
Jessa was silent for a minute. Lana held her breath. "You're asking me to stay," she said, frowning.
"Yeah, I am. I need a friend here, Jessa, and you're the closest one I've got. I'd rather be your friend and not get to date you than see you go and never talk to you again. I want it to go back to like it was before."
"So do I," Jessa said. She stood up. "Alright, we can be friends, and I won't leave, okay? But I don't want this to make things worse for you. If it gets to be too much, then just tell me, deal?"
Lana swallowed. "Deal," she said.
"I'm sorry for what I said before," Jessa added.
"I owe you an apology, too," Lana answered.
"Ladies and gentlemen, this is your ten minute call."
"Well, you'd better get your costume on, or you'll be late," Jessa said. "Have a good show, Lana."
