Chapter 111

Luckily for Jazzy, and all the other cast members who had gotten injured during the previous show, they only had one show. Unfortunately, that meant they also had rehearsal.

Pippa and Jazzy arrived at rehearsal to see the vast majority of the cast sprawled out on the stage. Jessa was somehow hanging upside down from the second level, Thayne was on his phone while hugging a weird turtle pillow pet, Carleigh had ice on her ankle, and Araella was wearing sunglasses inside.

"Well, this is fascinating," Pippa said dryly.

"We're waiting to start rehearsal," Thayne said, looking up at Pippa and Jazzy. "Bonjour, Jasmine Cephas Jones."

"Hi, Thayne," Jazzy laughed. "What are we rehearsing?"

"You're not rehearsing anything," Pippa said instantly. "You're sitting and watching."

Jazzy rolled her eyes. "Whatever, Pippa."

"We're rehearsing lots," Jessa said from her upside down position, consulting her phone. "Let's see. 'That Would Be Enough', 'My Shot', 'Satisfied', 'Schuyler Sisters', 'Say No To This', 'Yorktown' obviously, 'History Has Its Eyes On You', 'Take a Break', and 'The Election of 1800.'"

"Well, crap," Jazzy said under her breath.

"You're out for a week, aren't you?" Jessa asked, flipping the right way up.

"Tragically."

"Well, we're screwed. Araella has a headache, which could be a concussion, and Carleigh twisted her ankle, so I'm pretty sure Daveed's going to flip a table," Jessa commented. Pippa and Jazzy exchanged glances.

"We'll explain it," Pippa said finally. "It'll be fine."

Jessa snorted. "Good luck with that. Do you know how many injuries we had last show? This is going to be a disaster."

Just then, Daveed walked onstage, clapping his hands. "Alright, guys! We'll start with the songs with the least members. Pippa, you're up with Brett for 'That Would Be Enough', and then I want Jazzy to run 'Say No To This' with Brett, since she tripped yesterday."

Jazzy mentally screamed, but she kept quiet. Pippa gave her a reassuring look.

The entire time Pippa was singing, Jazzy got more apprehensive about Daveed's reaction. Anthony came over for a minute to try and make her feel better, but it didn't help.

"Alright, Jazzy, you're up," Daveed announced.

"It's okay, Jazzy," Oak stage-whispered. "Just spit it out and then run."

"I went to the doctor for my wrist, and I can't do the show for a week," Jazzy told Daveed. He was quiet for a moment, then-

"Are you serious?!" he exclaimed. "We're literally one. Show. In. We've barely been in Moscow and already we have an injury. Congratulations, Jasmine. Great job. That's high quality talent right there, to be able to get hurt one show in."

"It didn't help that tech didn't get most of their cues right," Jazzy said.

"I don't care, it's not like the turntables move that fast. I'm sure it wouldn't kill you to do the show, and I don't care how much your wrist hurts. It's just your wrist, not your brain. You still know the blocking, you can still walk. Get into your place, Jasmine."

"I can't, Daveed. That's not how it goes. The doctor doesn't want me performing," Jazzy told him.

"I. Don't. Care. Get onstage, now," Daveed snapped.

"She can't, Daveed," Pippa chimed in from where she had been sitting in the audience. "You're not a doctor, you can't dictate what she can and can't do. You're not certified, and believe it or not, you don't run this show. Even if you did, that doesn't mean you can ignore what professionals say and endanger the health of one of your actors."

"It's not even a physical song. She can do it, she'll be fine."

"It's black and blue, for god's sake, Daveed. Give it a rest," Pippa retorted. "Or let me tear your ligament and see how you can do the show. You don't really do that much with your hands, anyway. You just run around stage too."

Daveed snorted. "But the thing is, my wrist isn't hurt. She can handle it, she's a tough girl."

"If you make Jazzy perform 'Say No To This', I will not be participating in rehearsal. You can do 'Schuyler Sisters' and 'Take a Break' without me," Pippa told him sharply.

"You can't do that."

"Yes, I can."

"Fine, then we'll do it with Kaitlyn or Carleigh, then," Daveed said.

"Exactly, if you can deal with those songs with my understudies, I'm sure it won't kill you to do 'Say No To This' with Jazzy's understudies," Pippa told him, putting her hands on her hips.

Daveed was trapped, and Jazzy knew that he knew it.

"Fine, then Jessa, get up here," Daveed said finally. Jessa got up from where she'd been sitting on the second level and went down the stairs, slapping Pippa a high-five as she went.

"Rest up, Jazzy," Jessa said.

"Thanks, Jessa."

Daveed was still furious, Jazzy could tell. And she knew that her castmates were in for a rough rehearsal. Especially because Daveed still didn't know about Carleigh's ankle or Araella's possible concussion.
