Chapter 10
Thank goodness Pippa's health didn't get any worse overnight. It didn't get particularly better, but certainly no worse.
Pippa and Jazzy drag themselves out of bed, which isn't easy for either of them, since Jazzy stayed up for hours last night talking to the other girls. They have to head to rehearsal.
"Alright everyone, this morning, we are running choreography for 'Aaron Burr, Sir,' 'My Shot,' and 'The Story of Tonight,' in that order. If your name is Phillipa Soo, you are going to the doctor," Lin tells the cast, once they all assemble at the theater for their first day of practices.
Pippa blushes.
"And if your name is Jasmine Cephas Jones, then you are taking her," Lin finishes.
"Come on Pip," Jazzy says, grabbing her friend's hand. "Let's go."
"Did you know about this?" Jazzy asks.
"Yeah. I didn't tell you because I knew you'd protest it. Let's go."
They get on the city bus and take it over to the walk in clinic. They are quickly ushered into an examination room, where they see a doctor within ten minutes of being there.
"It does seem to just be long-lasting side effects of a bad sinus infection," the doctor tells Pippa. "Really, you will get over it in time, if you don't want a prescription."
"I have to be over it very soon. I'm an actress in a traveling Broadway production," Pippa tells her.
"Oh, okay. Let's get you a prescription written up. You can get it filled at Rite Aid."
"Thank you so much," Pippa says.
"No problem. I'll call them and tell them that you're coming. Just go to the one right down the street."
"Alright. Thanks again," Pippa says. Jazzy thanks the doctor as well, and then the two girls head back out into the waiting room, where they quickly pay for the visit and head out the door to the pharmacy.
After the girls pick up the pills, Pippa swallows one, and then can only sit around and wait for it to take effect.
Within a few hours, it does. She is feeling much better, and is even up for running "Schuyler Defeated" and "Best of Wives and Best of Women."
By the end of the day, the cast decides that they've had a productive day of practicing. They open in a week.
The group decides to go to Kayo's Ramen Bar, a restaurant that Lin found simply by googling "restaurants in Portland."
After a hard day of work, they all feel the need to unwind and eat something fattening.
Jazzy decides that she's going to sit with Anthony, which leaves Pippa, Lana, Alysha, and Kaitlyn to sit together, gossip, and talk about girl stuff, as they usually do. They end up at the end of the table near the ensemble girls too.
All of the cast has a super fun night. They all learn a lot about each other, which is good, because they are certainly going to be spending enough time together.
"Alright everybody, I have one final announcement before we head back to the hotel!" Lin says at the end of the night. "This is something that has been in the works for a while, but it has been confirmed as of yesterday. We have gotten a private plane for the tour!"
The cast members cheer.
"I expect that this will allow everyone to get proper rest so that we will not have any cast members getting sick while on this run," Lin continues, looking Pippa in the eye. Pippa laughs, and so does Lin. "Miss Soo knows what I'm talking about," Lin says, and the whole cast laughs now.
The cast all goes back to the hotel and quickly disperses into their rooms.
Pippa flops down onto her bed, face down.
"Two days into this tour, and I'm already exhausted," she groans.
"Actually, this was our first day of rehearsals," Jazzy points out.
"Don't remind me," Pippa laughs. She quickly showers and then changes into pajamas, so that she can get some proper rest.
Jazzy stays up a little bit later, watching The Fosters on Netflix. Eventually, though, she falls asleep mid-episode. When she wakes up the next morning, the tablet has claimed a spot in the bed, right next to her.
