the epigraph ~ 1

"Every man for himself."

~ John Heywood (c.1497-1580) ~

***

"Every man for himself," is how the common saying goes. The meaning is clear. If it had another meaning, however -- another interpretation, perhaps, it could be that every man is for himself.

...for those who look like himself.

...talk like himself.

...act like himself.

...dress like himself.

In the end, clarity comes in

understanding the age old sequence

within the saying:

every man for himself.
