Summary
Inola "Nola" Littlerock was part of the great Indian Removal policy of President Andrew Jackson. She and her family were forced from their home in the south and made to walk westward, beyond the Mississippi River to Oklahoma in 1838. She, along so many of her people, fell on the trail known as the "Trail of Tears", but before she took her last breath a Shaman of her people found her. The Shaman healed her and raised her among a pack of wolves that the Shaman had been living with having Inola see them as her brothers and sisters.
When Inola turned sixteen the Shaman called Inola to his side and told her of the vision he had and the Inola was a big part of it. To make sure Inola would be there for that time the Shaman had her drink the blood of a wolf Inola was close to, giving her the gift of immortality and the ability to turn into the wolf whom's blood she drank. Going by the name Wahy'a (meaning wolf in Cherokee) she becomes her people's first Skin-walker.
Now in modern-day, Inola lives in Brooklyn, New York. Her people are few in numbers and her legend had now fallen into myth. She has learned to live among modern-day people but hasn't forgotten about her past. She's going on with her life still thinking about the words of her Shaman guardian said to her, that she had a reason for having to be here in this time. But once she meets a young by the name of Thomas Bronson she begins to understand why.
