Ch. 17: The Ugly Truth
Molly returned to the warehouse that same night, knowing they would be restless without her arrival. Much to her satisfaction, Wade ran up to meet her just a minute after she walked in the door.
"Hey!" he said as he jogged up.
"Well, did you miss me?" she smirked.
"Desperately" he jokingly said, making her giggle. Although, he was greatly relieved to see her. "So, you get everything ok?"
"I've had easier tasks, surprisingly, but yea, I got everything we need"
"That's great, and I'm glad you made it" he nodded.
"Thanks, so am I" she scoffed and they giggled a little. "It wasn't easy though, I promise you that"
"Yea, but I knew you could do it"
An awkward silence fell between them, Molly with some red in her cheeks, before Wade continued.
"So, you sure that's everything we need?" he gestured to all the files she was carrying.
"Yea, I even looked through some of it. But Wade?" he gave her his full attention. "Are you sure you want to see this? Cos this is some messed up shit here. You won't like it"
Wade thought for a second before responding.
"I know, but I have to"
Molly took in a deep breath before nodding and gesturing for Wade to follow her. She was going to show him and all the boys what she discovered. It was finally time.

"Sir?" Lieutenant Benson said as he entered the General's office. "We have a problem. It looks like Foxtrot44's been compromised" he handed him the security fax he just received.
He examined it for a moment before standing from his chair, muttering "son of a bitch" as he did.
"What all did she get?"
"Not a lot sir, but we detected another security breach where much greater intel was taken. Somehow, we can't trace it either. She must've had someone on the inside"
"And I assume she got away"
"I'm afraid so sir, and it gets worse. She took the suit with her"
"The Bio-Fighter?"
"Yes sir, and its tracker is off, so we can't find it"
"She really knows how to make friends" he noted with a grouchy tone. "Alright, you know what to do in case she tries to go public with the information she has. And also, up our security. If she, or any of her other new friends, so much as sneeze in our direction, I want us to be there and ready to greet them" he handed the sheet back to the lieutenant.
"Roger that" Benson nodded as he returned to his station.
General Chambers stood alone in his office with his hands on his hips, contemplating what he just received and what to do next. This was the first time a Foxtrot had ever gone rogue, and this could cause so many problems for them. It was likely that the guy in the red suit had gotten to her and made her turn. She was likely taking everything she now had and showing it to them, which would give them a big edge now. But this time, they must know who and where they are. Whether they would come to this place or go public was a mystery, but they had to be prepared for anything.
The General decided that Dr. Blue and Blades deserved to know what was happening and headed off to find them. He arrived shortly at the room they were in right as Dr. Blue stepped out and shut the door.
"How is he?" the General asked.
"Perfect as always, but he's still not happy" he informed. "It seems that he's formed... a bit of an obsession over our new friend"
General Chambers sighed with an eyeroll, knowing how Blades could be in moments like this. It was never a good thing for someone like Blades to start obsessing over something, or anything. Especially, knowing how violent he is. It was dangerous and could cause major problems.
"I'll talk with him and see what I can do" General noted. "What about that staff looking object that was recovered?"
Dr. Blue hesitated as he tried to answer.
"We've... actually run into a slight little... problem" Chambers gave him a suspicious look.
"The item has gone missing"
The General wasn't sure if he heard correctly at first, but was pretty sure he did. He just had to process it for a moment before responding.
"What do you mean it's gone missing?"
"We don't know what happened! We were going to take it to the weapons manufacture and testing labs, but it just up and disappeared! We have no idea of what happened to it!" he stated with frustration.
"Alright, calm down, calm down" he tried to relax him. "We will find it, but we have bigger fish to fry right now" Dr. Blue gave him a questioning look. "The Foxtrot that was sent in before Blades the other night turned. And she gathered some dangerously useful intel, including our location"
"Wha-oh no"
"No need to to be alarmed. We're just upping our security detail and I just thought you should know, especially in case something does happen"
"Oh, well, thanks for the heads-up" he nodded. "You can speak to him now if you want. I'm gonna see if I can find out what happened to that staff" he began to walk away, leaving the General to be with Blades.
General Chambers entered the room and saw the murderous villain sitting in his chair. Only he wasn't facing Chambers, he was facing the wall. And on that wall, Chambers saw a carving that resembled the suit worn by Wade. It was about the same height and same shape as the crusader he fought just the previous night. He just sat there quietly, staring at his work and plotting his revenge.
"Adrian, don't let this get to your head. You need to control your emotions and stay focused"
"Trust me, I am focused" Blades whispered without even facing his commanding officer.
General Chambers just sighed before continuing.
"Well look, it may not be much longer before you get to have your rematch with him" Blades actually peaked over his shoulder from that. "There's a chance that soon, we'll either find them, or they'll find us" Blades smirked from that last notion.
"Good, and I'll be here...*turns back to his carving*...waiting for you!"

"Ok guys" Molly said as she stood at the touchscreen lab table, joined by Wade and all the boys. "Inside these folders is the truth about everything that's been happening, with you four, and beyond that. But you guys should know, what's in these files is the truth that's as ugly as it gets"
Her warning tone was perfectly clear to prepare her new friends, at least somewhat, for what she would soon share with them. They all looked at each other, making sure they were all prepared, before nodding for Molly to continue. The soldier gave one last look at Wade for clearance, which he gave, and she began to put everything out on the table.
"This is something that's been going on for decades, long before any of us were even born. When the two infamous heroes, Markiplier and Jacksepticeye, turned up, a lot of people wondered if there was any others with superpowers before them. Turns out, the answer is yes. There's been dozens of them" as she spoke, she showed them dozens of pictures and documents about events, people, powers, and many other things that were kept secret for so many years.
"And the majority of these supers were the result of the so-called Matthias Stones" that part really caught Wade's attention. "They've been falling out of the sky for years and all over the world. They would usually crash into waters, abandoned or less populated areas, hardly anywhere real big. But there's been so many of them, it looks like at least a quarter of the human race has been affected by them"
"Holy shit" Gar said.
"That's gotta be at least a few million" Wade followed.
"Probably even more" Pat added.
"That's only the beginning of it" Molly noted, grabbing everyone's attention again. "The government and the military have been searching and capturing these Matthias Stones, and the people affected by them ever since. They would find them, take them, and bring em to these top secret facilities they call Temples. There, they keep them as prisoners, experiments, sources of new weapons and soldiers, all sorts of bad shit. Which, also brings us to your new pal, Adrian Blades"
"Adrian-wait, you actually found out about him?" Wade asked, a combination of amazement and surprise in his voice.
"Yea, but as you predicted, it isn't his real name" she informed, Wade feeling slightly proud. "His real name is Vincent Deckard. He was a native of a small town in Nevada that got hit by a BIG meteor with Matthias Stones. It was home to around five-hundred civilians until they got hit. Some of them died, but most of them were... different, as you can imagine. As for Deckard himself, the impact sent him into a wall of stabbing weapons that should've killed him. But thanks to the Matthias Stones, something else happened. He not only survived, but the blades that pierced his body somehow morphed into it. He was only eleven years old when that happened too"
"Damn" Pat said.
"But wait, the stones may have turned him into Blades, but I'm sure they didn't turn him into a psycho" Wade notably stated.
"That brings me to this" she set down one of the last files she had been holding on to. "Before the extraction teams had arrived, little boy Vincent used his new abilities to kill his parents and his shrink"
"His shrink?" JP asked.
"Apparently, he was showing some pretty disturbing behavioral traits. This is the profile she wrote on him, along with those traits" she handed Wade the two sheets.
"You even got his psychic profile? Damn, you are good" Molly gave off a small smile as he read, the others smirking as they watched the two.
Wade examined and read through the information for a minute before sharing with the others.
"Well, this is lovely. He showed all the childhood signs of a future serial killer" he said, and began reading all the traits written down. "And those lovely traits mentioned include... borderline personality disorder, obsessive control, and... OH, my favorite; psychopathic tendencies!" he threw the page down on the table. "Who the hell would be stupid enough to turn this freak into a weapon and let him loose, out in public at that?"
"Whoever wants a perfect, expendable killing machine" Gar answered. "And believe me, when it comes to expendable assets, monsters are just perfect. It's easy to say they acted alone when things go to shit"
"That is true, but I can actually tell you who exactly let this one off his leash" Molly said as she set down one of the other files she was still holding. "General Jefferson Chambers, leader of the military's Bio-Weapons and Enhanced Individuals Division"
Wade looked at the photo of the General and responded.
"Hey, wait a minute, I know this guy" he noted, surprising his allies. "He's the same General that worked with Wilford Warfstache when he was in control of Mark's company. Last time I checked, Mark wasn't able to find him. Let alone, link him to anything that happened in L.A."
"Chambers has been in charge of everything regarding supers and the Matthias Stones, whether it's hunting and capturing them or overseeing weapons manufactured by them. He's the man behind it all" Molly went on as she set another file down.
"Wait, they haven't gone after Mark or Jack since L.A., right?" Gar asked.
"As far as I know" Wade nodded. "That might be because of how popular they are to the world"
"Right, can't go after the world's most beloved heroes without risking exposure" Pat added.
"That's not all" Molly continued. "He runs the whole thing with this man, Chris Cyrus, who operates under the codename, Dr. Blue; given his work with the Matthias Stones. He's one of the top military scientist in the world, but a total looney. He used to run another Temple back in Jerusalem until two years ago when the prisoners rioted and escaped"
"And he survived?" Gar asked, not believing they never would have killed him.
"One of them shattered his back and left him for dead, but a security team got him out in a helicopter in time before the building collapsed. Afterwards, they somehow managed to repair his back and he came back to the states with the General for their new big operation"
"More like a big, out of control, and not to mention illegal, conspiracy" Pat said. "How the hell did they even manage to keep this hidden so well, or for so long?"
"That's actually the worst part" Molly replied with a troubled look. She then took a deep breath and let it out before responding.
"You guys know how during World War Two, the military made a deal with the mob to keep the Nazis from crossing over? Well, it seems that they did the same thing here. They've used certain crime families as informants to keep an eye out for people with superpowers. In return, the mob gets expanded territories, better resources, get out of jail free cards, you name it. And Wade, this is the part you're REALLY not gonna like, but you deserve to know"
Wade prepared himself as best he could before she continued.
"Robert Stallone is one of his informants. They sent him, and his whole operation, down here after a meteor with Matthias Stones had crashed into the Ohio River. They helped to expand their territory as far as they needed to contain the situation and find all those affected by the stones. This is that trafficking ring that was believed to be going around. It was them with their secret operation, covered up by the crime wave spreading through the city. Stallone was their eyes and ears, Chambers was the head honcho behind all the strange kidnappings, and Blades was the cause of all those bizarre murders. Everything bad that's happened here was all because of them"
All eyes were on Wade as he carried the most stunned, and most enraged, expression they had ever seen. It was almost impossible to believe what he just heard, that those people could cause something like this. But it was the truth. Molly said it was as ugly as it gets, and she was right. The truth doesn't get any uglier than this.
"These guys... purposely... sent in a criminal... to my city?! And to tear it apart?!" he replied with quiet shouts, looking on the verge of erupting like a volcano.
The boys had their eyes averted, understanding how Wade felt. They could harldy believe this themselves. This whole thing was just horrific, disgusting even. It was in every sense of the term wrong.
"I'm sorry Wade, but I do have some good news" everyone faced back up towards Molly. "I found out where they are, and this is something I got myself" she took out the drive she had and plugged it in to the side of the touchscreen lab table. She then started messing around with the screen until the images she downloaded appeared.
"It's a classified base in Death Valley. It's also where they took your staff, Wade. And JP, your family's there too"
"They're alive?!" he asked in joyous disbelief.
"Every last one of them" Molly nodded.
JP excitedly scoffed as the others patted him on the back, tears of joy forming in his eyes.
"But guys, that's a big base with a lot of bad guys" Molly continued. "We'll be outmanned, outgunned, and out-powered frankly. These are not odds in our favor"
"But wait, can't we just like... take all this to the press or something?" Gar asked.
"Afraid not" she shook her head. "They'll have us discredited before we can even think we've won, if they haven't already. Then, they'll just move to another base, start fresh and we'll be back to square one. The only way we can take these guys down, is to go down there, get the General and the doctor, collect some of their research, and free all the prisoners. After that, we turn them in and then run to the press"
"In other words, we're gonna have to bring the fight to them for once" Wade added, which wasn't thrilling news to the others, or himself.
This was all so much for everyone to take. It was like gaining an extra thousand pounds. Even Wade himself could feel the wait of the world collapsing in on his shoulders. He knew they needed some time, because so did he.
"Why don't you guys just sit down and relax for a minute. I'm gonna go up and just think on this for a minute" Wade stated before heading to the roof, leaving his friends with their own thoughts of worry.
Molly herself knew how they felt because she did too. She felt the same weight they did now. This was as scary and as real as they get. She needed to find a way to encourage them, starting with their leader. Otherwise, this mission would go terribly wrong.
So, she followed Wade.
