Ch. 13: Meeting the Boys

Wade was awoken by a sudden, strange movement that caused his body to lean towards the side. His eyes shot open from the odd shift-like movement and hit the wall of the tiny environment he was in. He immediately went in on the alert and observed his surroundings. He was sitting in some type of confinement with steel all around, except for the glass door in front of him. It seemed like it was plastic, and definitely had to be the hard to break kind. The room he was in was small, only big enough for one person to sit in, and it was barely even big enough for him. His hands were binded together by some type of metal restraint system. It completely covered his hands and lower arms. They were likely also meant to keep it's captors from using their superpowers. Of course, they probably didn't work on Wade's powers, but that was a maybe. Wade didn't have time to figure that out now as military guards walked past his tiny cell. He must have been inside a military transport vehicle, a big truck most likely. He tried to see where the guards were heading to, but couldn't see much other than what was straight across from him. He did however notice that his mask was off. They must have removed it out of curiosity at some point. He just hoped they didn't discover his true identity yet. He was able to peak over his shoulder to ensure it was still attached to his suit, which it was. However, his staff was gone. Of course, it was obvious they would've taken that away, but it wasn't something to be left in the wrong hands. He just hoped it was also somewhere on this truck, or at least close by. His attention was brought back to the guards when he heard the back door slide open. He then heard the guards talking and moving back down his way, so he sat back in his seat and listened carefully.

"Who's this guy?" he heard one of them say.

"Just another super freak. My team and I caught him putting on some kind of light show not five minutes before you guys drove by"

"Wow, two in one mission? Must be our lucky night"

Another? Two? Wade wasn't alone. There was another with him now, someone with superpowers. He couldn't believe it.

"Yea, and this guy was like doing some weird electrical shit too"

"Haha! Well, he won't be doing much of that now, except if he can play nice or if someone wants to play with him"

As they talked, Wade watched as the guards escorted their new prisoner to the cell right across his own. He was a younger guy with what Wade believed is called a bob haircut. He could have been wrong, but it seemed like sort of an emo-like hairdo. It was dark, silk, shiny, and leaned to the side of his head in a curve-like motion. He also wore a white shirt with a purple hoodie and had the same restraints Wade did. Although, he seemed more calm and collective. He was definitely a young guy, but not that much younger than Wade. He glanced at Wade as the guards brought him and placed him in the cell across from him.

"Here, have a friend for the road" one of the guards mockingly said to Wade, making his buddies chuckle.

"Alright, let's get a move on" another said and the guards went back to their spots, saying goodbye to that team and closing the back door, before the vehicle started moving again.

All Wade could do was stare across at his new travel buddy. The new captive shot up his eyebrows and nodded in a "hi there" fashion. Wade nodded back before glancing around again, trying to think of an escape plan. He could probably take the guards, but he would first need to get out of this cell and out of these weird super cuffs. He remembered what one of the guards said about the person in front of him, that he had some type of electrical powers. It was definitely something that could come in to play here. But first, he needed to get him out of those cuffs; and before he could do that, he had to get himself out of the cuffs. Well, he did wonder if he could still remove them with his mind, so might as well find that out now. However, there was still one more problem. There was also the matter that Wade had used a lot of his mind power and effort into healing himself. Yes, he did get some rest, but was it enough? He may be Lordminion777, but he was still human, and the mind could only take so much. Plus, taking off these cuffs wouldn't be easy. But despite all that, he still needed to try. He had to get out of here.

He faced down towards the cuffs and began to concentrate. He was still feeling the effects from his previous battles all night, and that certainly didn't help at all. But he was trained for this. So, he just took a deep breath and kept on focusing. As he kept his focus, Wade began to feel all the locks and switches within the confinement. The guy sitting across from him watched as Wade focused hard, wondering why he was so concentrated on the cuffs. Wade kept pushing himself as much as he could, working through the pain and fatigue of his body. Until finally, the restraints began to unlock and open, releasing Wade's hands. The prisoner from across him bulged his eyes at the unbelievable sight. Wade carefully placed the cuffs to the side before giving him the shush sign. The other prisoner nodded before motioning with his own restraints. Wade started to focus once again. He concentrated even harder, wanting to get this quickly and get out here. It wasn't long before his new partner was freed and he and Wade both smiled. Wade then nodded knowingly as he put his mask back on, giving him the go ahead signal he didn't need twice.

Electrical lines began sparking up as the top of the prisoner's hair turned purple. Wade was stunned by the sight. Not just because of this guy's actual, awesome powers, but also because Wade knew what that colored-hair deal meant: This guy was a result of the Matthias stones like Mark and Jack were. Wade's new partner and friend had electricity running through his hair and hands and began drawing the power of his cell door away, causing it to open instantly. He then did the same thing with Wade's door. Once he took all the electricity out of it, it opened right up. And now, it began.

Once the guards heard the doors slide open, they started shouting and rushing down. Wade listened as the closest one came from his right, and welcomed him with a kick to the crotch. He followed it up with a chop to the throat before exiting his cell. He gave him an elbow to the face for good measure and kicked him into the guard behind him. He then turned just in time to meet the guard rushing in from the other end. He blocked the shot he attempted with his extended metal baton before driving a knee into his gut. He then elbow-uppercutted his chin before flipping him over his shoulder. He knocked him out with a punch before his knew friend stepped out to protect him from the other guard at the end of the truck. He shot electricity out of his hands and sent the guard flying into the wall, without killing him of course. Wade moved his attack to the last guard, the one he kicked his buddy into. The guard had gotten out from under his buddy and stood with his gun in hand. Wade jumped over to the guard and snatched his gun away. He then punched him with the gun before kicking his shin and giving him one last hard hit with the gun. Then, as the guy on the floor that Wade flipped got back up, Wade threw the gun at his face like it was a throwing star, making sure he stayed down. He switched his attention to the first guard he took down, the only one who was still conscious, and grabbed him by the collar of his army jacket before pulling him up.

"Where the hell is my fucking staff?" he angrily asked.

"I... I don't know, it must have been confiscated by another unit" he quickly explained.

The news was a little devastating to Wade. These maniacs took his greatest weapon, his prized possession, a symbol of hope and justice, the pride of the Minions that was entrusted onto him. It was gone and in the hands of God knows who, and there was no telling what they would use it for either. Wade felt like he had lost it, like he should've done more to keep it safe with him, like he had failed.

Suddenly, the truck came to a crashing stop. Wade could hear the impact before getting thrown further towards the front. Since Wade was holding onto him during the crash, the guard got pulled up a little with Wade. But he didn't go quite as far as he did, and was now free. He immediately went for his side arm, pulled it out, aimed right at Wade's chin, and then a spark of light knocked the gun out of his hand, stunning it to numbness. Wade blew out a relieving sigh before knocking the guard out.

"Thanks" he said to his savior.

"No problem" he replied. "Now how bout we get the hell out of here?"

"Sounds good to me" Wade nodded and the two escapees found a door on the right side of the truck. They quickly made their exit, glancing around to make sure reinforcements or the cops hadn't arrived yet.

They could hear distant sirens, but nothing close by. Except, for the army Humvee that smashed into the truck upon it's collision. Its passengers were alive, but not getting out to pursue them anytime soon. Wade and his new buddy ran towards the first alleyway they saw, right by the front of the truck. Wade curiously glanced towards the front to see what it crashed into, but didn't see anything in front of it. All he saw was just the effect it left after the crash.

"Shit, what could've..." he trailed off when he saw something, or someone, standing at the top corner of a building across the street. It was hard to tell who or what it was do to the distance and nighttime sky. It looked like a combination between a small, bulky person and some type of humanoid creature. Wade really couldn't tell what it was, by he thought he caught a brief glimpse of bat-like or dragon-like wings. It made him wonder if that was the thing he's heard flapping around on and off again. But then, in that same brief little instance, it seemed like the creature formed back into a normal shaped person.

"What the hell is that?" he wondered out loud.

"Yo Redrum! Let's go!" the guy he was escaping with shouted, stealing Wade's attention before running back into alleyway.

Wade glanced back as he followed him, but the rooftop figure was gone now. He just forgot about it as he kept running. Besides, those sirens were getting close and he needed to disappear. He followed the young man down the large alleyway around the corner as they heard the sirens pull up to the wreckage. They stayed put there as they could hear other sirens passing by all around them. There was a chance they weren't looking for them yet, but they couldn't risk someone catching a glimpse of them. Wade carefully glanced around the corner, seeing a few officers passing by and hearing a little chatter. It seemed like nobody was looking for them yet, which gave them a minute to catch their breath. The guys in the Humvee must not have been able to even spread word about their escaped prisoners. Wade leaned back behind the corner and turned to his helper, both of them panting.

"Hi, I'm Wade" he whispered while holding out his hand.

"Patrick, nice to meet you, Wade" he whispered back with a handshake.

"Well, Patrick, any idea what's going on here?" he asked with another brief glance around the corner. They were still safe.

"Yea, it seems that the military has a hard on for guys like us" he said and Wade giggled.

"But why? Why are they after us? What did we do?"

"Your guess is as good as mine Wade, but I'm pretty sure it has to do with the fact that we have superpowers"

"So? I've never used my powers for bad, the exact opposite actually"

"Same here, but that's not stopping them, is it?"

"So what, they're just paranoid about people with superpowers?"

"I guess, I wouldn't be supri-"

"Wait, ssshhh" Wade cut off when he heard something and peaked around the corner again.

"He said they went down this way" he heard one of the officers say before they started jogging down the alley.

"We gotta move!" Wade whispered with urgency.

"This way!"

Patrick ran to the building across from them and Wade followed. They quickly got to the building's door, but it was locked. Patrick used his electrical powers to manipulate the lock and open the door. The two quickly entered before the cops arrived. They quietly used what they could to barricade the door and ducked in the shadows when lights came shining in. The cops tried to open the door, but to no success of course. They even tried to knock it down, but still nothing.

"It's blocked on the other side" they heard the muffled voice of one of the officers.

"Let's go around, see if they're in there" another one said and the lights and cops went away.

"We need to get out of here" Patrick whispered. "They'll have the whole building and this whole area searched for us"

"Follow me, I know how we can get out" Wade whispered and led the way. "We've gotta get to the roof"

They ran through the dark clothing shop they were in and found the escalator. It wasn't working, but they could still run up and get to the other level. It wasn't long before they had reached the roof and gotten outside. They glanced around to make sure nobody could see them up there, it was fully clear. They then blockaded the door just in case they came up looking for them. Wade still couldn't believe this was happening. He felt like a criminal running from the cops like this. He hated it, and it didn't make any sense to him why this was all happening.

"Where to now?" Patrick asked.

"Ok, uh.... what else can you do with those lightning powers? Can you like... fly or hover?"

"I can actually, but not without giving ourselves away"

"Damnit, cos I was gonna jump-" he stopped when he heard something in the distance. It was one of those helicopters from earlier coming back.

It arrived faster than the two could predict and shined a light on them. It blinded them for a moment before Wade was able to recognize something else, or someone else, hanging beside the chopper. It was Blades, he was back for more. He likely wasn't too happy about Wade just barely managing to escape, and was now eager to finish the job. He sinisterly grinned at his prey and waved with his free arm, the one with the blade sticking straight out of it.

"You were saying about giving ourselves away?!" Wade hollered.

"Ah fuck it!"

Patrick shot lightning at the helicopter, but he wasn't doing it to kill them. In fact, he was somehow even managing to control the helicopter, bringing it safely down on the other building across from them. It was the coolest thing Wade had seen thus far. However, Blades managed to hop off the chopper, ducking and rolling across the roof until he came to a stop. He wasn't even a little bit fazed by whatever hits he took from the lightning, or the landing. He stood with that sick look of his and with sinister intentions.

"That is one tough son of a bitch" Wade said with bulged eyes.

"You said it" Pat nodded in agreement.

"You didn't think that was the last of me, did you?! That you actually escaped me?!" Blades shouted from across the rooftops. "Nobody runs, nobody hides, and nobody escapes from me!"

"Patrick, go!"

"But Wade-"

"Trust me, I got this, just go!"

Patrick reluctantly gave in this time. His eyes became consumed by light and his hair shined with electricity. Then, once it shot out from his hands, he began to lift himself off the roof and into thin air. Wade had to admit, this guy was really cool. However, he needed to focus his attention on the man across from him. Blades was actually able to jump all the way across to the building Wade was on. He had quite the leaping ability as well. Wade cursed once Blades tuck and rolled to a stop again and stood with a psychotic vengeful look upon him. He knew his chances were even worse than earlier without his staff, but he needed to try.

"Now, where were we?" Blades asked as he got ready to finish his work from earlier. Wade readied himself for round two. "Where did we leave off?" he added with a grin, and Wade couldn't deny he got chills thinking back to their first fight, how Blades almost had him.

"WOAH!!!!!" Wade screamed as something grabbed him and took off with him out of the blue.

The thing that was carrying him flew him away from the roof. Wade could hear his Blades scream in anger from below as he got smaller and farther away. It wasn't a steady flight either, it was an incredibly disorienting one. This thing didn't fly like Molly did, it was a hard flapping kind that was like hopping on air. It had to be the same thing Wade saw earlier. He screamed and struggled as they got higher up.

"Hey! What the hell?! Put me down!"

"Wow, you're mean" the thing responded, and it didn't have like a monstrous voice or anything, it was more like a teenager's voice. "I save your life and you're up here screaming for me to drop you? I probably should"

Wade just furrowed his eyebrows as he glanced up at his savior. It was definitely whatever, or whoever, had been following him all this time. It looked like a late teens kid that had turned into some type of humanoid reptilian-like form. His skin was a greenish yellow color with prickly scales, his wings were like a small dragon's, and his hair was dark and spiky. When he returned eye contact with Wade, his eyes were also incredibly reptilian-like, glowing a bright yellow in the dark. He smiled a laughing grin from the shocked expression Wade had on his face; and man he had some teeth.

"It's cool man, it's all good" he said.

"Who are you? Or what are you?" Wade asked, having never heard of someone, or something, like this kid.

"Name's Jeremiah, but my friends call me J.P." he replied with a wide smile.

Wade just stared in awe as his new friend, yes another one already, flew him away. Wade was able to glance over his shoulder and see that they were following Patrick. They didn't go far either. They landed safely on the same building that Patrick did, who was shocked to see Wade arrive as well, along with the strange likes of JP.

"Uh, and who's this?" Pat asked.

"Patrick, this is J-woah, JP, what the fuck?!" Wade said once JP started changing back into a normal human. Now he had gone from a reptilian-like figure to a normal looking late teens boy; one without a shirt on.

"Hi there! Whoa whoops!" he freaked once the pants he had stretched out fell down.

"Oh my God!" Patrick said as he and Wade both turned away.

"That's an image that's gonna keep me awake" Wade said.

"Wade, where did you find this guy?" Patrick asked, not turning around.

"I didn't, he found me. Which, by the way, how did you find me?" he asked while looking to the side, but not in JP's direction.

"It's ok, you can look now. And I just so happened to be passing by when you took out that huge gang at that trashy motel area" he answered and the two turned, relieved he got his pants fully back on. "After that, I... just followed you around"

"Oh great, stalked by a teenager, what I always wanted" Wade said.

"Hey, you're a cool guy. I've just been working the courage to come and talk to ya. And, also, to see if you, I don't know, needed any help, could help me-"

"Woah woah woah, wait a minute, how old are you? Where are your parents?" Wade questioned.

JP's expression changed into a more saddening one. His smile faded and his gaze adverted.

"That's... kind of what I need your help with" he replied.

Wade and Patrick began to understand better, both carrying worried, sympathetic looks on them. However, before they could respond, they were interrupted by the other helicopter and government vehicles rushing up from down below.

"Get inside!" Patrick shouted and the three ran in.

"Wait, shouldn't we have stuck to the rooftops?" Wade asked as they ran down the stairs.

"Trust me, I have a plan" Pat assured, and Wade realized he never asked why Pat came here, but he would have to trust him.

A minute later, they entered a room that seemed like a trashy, abandoned living room area. It was large though, had enough space to throw a party in. It even had a bunch of space above it with a loft. It was partially dark though which made it a little creepy.

"Damnit, where the hell is he?" Pat asked in frustration.

"Where's who?" Wade asked.

But before Patrick could answer, the room was raided by a team of what they could only assume were government agents, all suited with tactical body armor and carrying automatic weapons. They broke down the doors, tossed in flash bangs and tear gas and came charging in, barking for them to surrender. The trio of supers stood frozen in fighting positions. However, despite their powers, being surrounded by guns weren't great odds. It didn't help that the grenades had slightly disoriented them and made it harder to see and breathe. It seemed like they were screwed.

Then suddenly, they heard some type of growling coming from the loft above, silencing all the shouting and stealing all the attention.

"Oh, there he is" Patrick said.

And then, a large wolf-like creature with wings came swooping down and flew a lap around the heroes, tearing through all the agents sent there to capture them. The troops retaliated with gunfire, but it seemed their attacker was too quick for them. Wade, Pat and JP all ducked to avoid any crossfire, hardly able to see the creature through the dark and smoke. One by one, it took out each of the invading perpetrators, clawing and biting and knocking them out of the way, grabbing them and tossing them into the walls. It was a raging, relentless beast. It wasn't long at all before all the agents were down and done. After that, the smoke began to clear and Wade and the others got a clear view of their protector. They watched as the big winged wolf faded into black, and then listened to the sounds of its transformation. Once the odd noises had stopped, an average looking young man wearing normal clothes stepped out from the exact same spot the wolf had faded into.

"Whoo! That was fun" he said. "Hey Pat, uh... who are your new friends?"

"Wade, JP, this is Gar Bluemoon, he's a Demon Wolf"

"A Demon Wolf? Really?" Wade asked in amazement.

"I'll explain everything later" Pat said. "And, later I'll explain how I met them too, Gar" he added.

"Yea, cos now, we need to get out of here" Gar said as he walked up to the group. "They'll send in more soon"

"I know, but where are we gonna go?" Pat asked.

"I know a place" Wade said. "It's perfect and it's safe"

Gar glanced at Patrick as if to ask, "Can we trust him?" and Pat nodded.

"Alright, lead the way, Wade"
