"A-ADRIEN!!!"
The blonde bumped his head on the shelf when he heard his wife shriek like that. He dropped the screwdriver and ran to the large bedroom. "M-Marinette, are you okay?!" he asked. He watched her shake her head and noticed the pain she was possibly in.
"H-Hospital...n-now..." Marinette whimpered, clutching on a pillow. She groaned again and buried her face in the pillow. "I-I think...It's time..." she gasped a few times.
He helped Marinette to lay on her back again on the bed after she was laying on her side for so long. "It's going to be alright, just try to breathe like you were taught. We can go down to the car as safely as we can- "
"I understand that! Just get me to the damn car!!" she shouted, but then groaned in pain again. She practiced her breathing to keep herself calm, then look at him with pleading eyes. "Just...hurry, please...for our little girl."
"of course, my lady." He said as he kissed her forehead. "When you can, try and call everyone to meet us there. I'm going to pull the car to the front of the building and come back. I'll even carry you to the elevator and to the car."
Marinette nodded, tears in her eyes. "A-Alright, honey." She smiled faintly.
Adrien smiled back and kissed her hand. "Today's the day!" he cheered as he left the room.
Instead of waiting for the elevator, he ran down the stairs and to the resident parking lot. He clicked the button on the remote to start up the car and ran to unlock it. Within minutes, he pulled the car to the front door of the apartment building without hitting any parked cars. Gripping the wheel, he noticed he was already shaking. "Today is the day..." he sighed, letting the moment sink in. He looked at the radio and saw that it was 1 o' clock in the afternoon, wondering how long Marinette had been in labor. He remembered her complaints of small complications, but he was working on a new piece of furniture that he lost track of the minutes.
"Today is the day." He said to himself again before exiting the car and running up to their home.
"Today is the day," was the only phrase he could think about.
Safely, Adrien drove Marinette to the hospital in 10 minutes. He had the car packed with overnight bags and shower supplies for a week, and the baby car seat was in place in the middle of the back seat. His hand that was holding her's had turned a bit red when Marinette had a cry of pain every 3 minutes that lasted 20 seconds. He didn't care that she clawed his hand once.
He parked the car in the emergency patients circle and turned off the car to comfort his wife. "Give me one minute to get a nurse."
Marinette nodded and smiled at him. "Please hurry...She's going to come any time now..."
He gave her a nod and left the car to find a nurse and a wheelchair. He hurriedly told the receptionist about his pregnant wife in labor, to which she called a nurse and doctor. He almost forgot a wheelchair until he saw the nurse already bringing one to the front door. He thanked them and lead them to the car.
Adrien assisted when they tried to help her out of the passenger car. He watched Marinette shake, which seemed unusual to him at the moment.
Doctor told the blonde that car can only be parked there up to an hour before he was asked to move it. Adrien agreed and said he will move the car when a friend or family member comes by.
He looked at his wife and held her hand as they strolled into the hospital with the doctor and nurse. "Everything will go smoothly, Mari." He smiled.
Marinette nodded and smiled back. "You'll have to wrap up your hand." she managed to laugh.
"I'm going to need gloves when you actually give birth." The blonde chuckled. "Today is when we meet Emma." He said softly as they made their way to the proper area of the hospital.
Marinette faintly nodded and placed her other hand on top of his. "I can't wait..." she said shyly.
After examination of how much time was left before Emma could arrive, Adrien couldn't help but look at the IVs and medication that was going into her just for the pain. They had watched the ultrasound and was relieved that Emma was in the right position to be delivered and saw no risks. While signing the hospital admission papers, Adrien swore he heard Marinette faint snoring.
"So she's asleep?" Plagg asked, appearing above his pen.
"I guess so." Adrien sighed. His heart hasn't been able to settle from the adrenaline. "She looks like the pain isn't hurting her anymore...but she's so pale."
"She had lost a lot of energy today." Tikki chimed with a shy smile. "She's going to be alright."
The blonde smiled and nodded. He checked his phone for time, noticing an hour and a half had past. He saw a few notifications pop up, all from his friends and Marinette's parents.
Alya: Here!! Where are you?
Nino: Dude, need me to move your car?
Tom: How's Mari? We're in the waiting room.
Adrien waited for the nurse to walk in again to hand her the papers and dismissed himself from the room. The nurse nodded in understanding, warning him not bring too many people in the room at one time. Adrien agreed and excused himself from his wife's side. He double checked the room number and area just in case he would forget when he comes back.
Adrien greeted everyone in the waiting room, handing his car keys to Nino. "I'm relieved you guys came."
"We're all here for Marinette." Sabine smiled at him as she hugged him. "Everything is going well I hope?"
"Yes ma'am. Emma is doing really good, so is Marinette." He smiled. "She's asleep right now."
"It's the medication, I'm betting on." Alya laughed, scaring the blonde by slapping his shoulder. "I hope you two are ready."
"Mari is going through more pain for the both of us." Adrien commented as he rubbed his shoulder where he was slapped.
"Mother's love." Sabine said, then laughed a bit. "You don't want to hear my ramble about the pain again, no would you?"
"N-No thank you, ma'am." He chuckled. "Anyone else coming? Where's my father?" he asked.
"He called us on the way here." Tom spoke up. "He's leaving from a meeting right now and should be here soon."
Adrien nodded a bit, accepting his father being late to another event in his son's life. "I assume you guys wanted to go up to her room?" he asked, which he got a loud yes from the four. He laughed nervously and lead them to the elevator. "They're estimating two hours before she delivers." He said as he looked down at his phone.
An hour went by and Adrien's stomach had grumbled in hunger as he sat in a chair next to Marinette's bed. He bounced his knee in nervousness until Nino approached him.
"I understand you are nervous and all, but you're tapping and moving around too much." Nino whispered.
"Can't help it." Adrien said, his fingers nervously fidgeting his phone. "I hope Mari wakes up soon. Nurse will be back soon to check on her and Emma."
"I think you need some fresh air, dude."
"I'm not sticking my head out while on the third floor." He replied bluntly. "I've been suspended in the air way too much over the years."
Around 4 pm, Gabriel came and walked around the hospital with his son, telling him stories about Adrien's mother. Adrien always enjoyed stories he heard about his mother, but how Adrien was delivered into the world almost made him sick. Gabriel just kept his hand on his son's shoulder during the talk, while Adrien imagined the puberty and sex talk all over again.
It was after 9 pm when Marinette complained of pain during dinner. She tried to sit up on her own, but was pushed down into her pillows by her mother and Alya.
Adrien coached her to breath during the contractions. He heard the doctor say it was time, which his face turned slightly pale at what was about to happen next.
"Do you need to leave the room, son?" Gabriel asked as the nurses put up the curtain.
"Don't worry, no one is recording over here." Alya said, hoping to lighten the mood.
Marinette couldn't laugh much, her blue eyes light and full of tears of pain. "I...I just...w-want my mom...and Adrien...right now..." she groaned.
"We understand, sweetheart." Tom said, petting his daughter's head. "The rest of us will be in the hallway." He said to comfort her.
Gabriel wished the couple luck as he left the room with Tom, Alya, and Nino.
"Ready, my lady?" Adrien asked, looking down at his wife.
Marinette nodded, her hand shaking in his. "I-I think so..."
"Don't be scared. Emma is going to be here, and we'll love her unconditionally."
"Y-Yeah...Why are they so many of you...." She mumbled.
Sabine patted the sweat off Marinette's forehead, pinning her bangs back with a flower bobby pin. "We're here for you." She smiled.
Marinette's scream and the strength she was putting into her grasp with Adrien's hand was worth it, but scary at the same that that it gave him chills. As it continued for 15 minutes, Adrien held her hand through it. As soon as he heard a faint cry, he knew it was over.
"D...Do you hear that?" he whispered as he watched the doctor gave him a questionable look. He accepted the offer and did his fatherly part, which almost made him sick just looking at the cord. He was prepared, he swore he was.
"E...Emma...A...A-Adrien..." he heard Marinette said in a hush tone, which made him look at her in worry. "M-momma...I...I don't...feel good..." she whined softly.
"Marinette?" Sabine asked, slightly shaking and pinching her daughter's arm to keep her awake.
"Marinette?" Adrien asked, squeezing her hand and checking her eyes. He noticed her eyes lighter than normal. "Hey, stay with us. Emma is here and she can't wait to meet you!" he smiled in reassurance. He watched her close her eyes again and watched her chest rise and fall.
"Adrien, don't panic..." Sabine warned, standing up to gently slap her daughter's cheeks. "Come on, honey."
Marinette groaned, as if trying to stay awake. But a sound on her monitor gave off a small alarm.
"M-Marinette?"
