Heading to the Jeon's residence didn't take me long because not only did living in a neighborhood secluded from the city have the benefits of protected privacy, but also the advantage that the streets were mostly empty no matter what time or day it was.

The streets were quiet but my mind was not no matter how much I wished it was or breathed deep breaths. I couldn't imagine what brought my father to the Jeon's at this hour. A family that was as rich as anyone in this neighborhood was, possibly more so.

Fifteen minutes after leaving our house in a hurry, I pulled into the driveway only to be greeted by countless cars. The shiny polished vehicles lined the asphalt path that led to the mansion and I was forced to park my car to walk the last few feet.

I guessed that some kind of party had to be going on, because two security men were standing at the door, as I could easily see from this distance, because they had to be at least as tall as a door.

The front yard was lit by lanterns, giving me a small glimpse of how big this enormous property was, which probably had to have its own zip code. The dark night obscured my view of anything more than twenty feet stretching out toward the back. Uncertainty tickled under my skin, just like the situation we were in right now.

I pulled my jacket tighter in the front as a gust of cold wind slapped the water from the fountain that was centered in the driveway into my face, and annoyance traveled into my consciousness. As much as I liked the rain, I didn't like getting wet by random things, especially when the nerves were already making me bite my fingernails, which I strictly restrained myself from doing.

The puzzled glances of the two men standing at the entrance met me as I climbed the five steps leading up to the front door. They watched me from head to toe, clearly displeased that an underdressed woman had suddenly appeared here.

I couldn't have managed to throw on anything but a pair of pants and sneakers in a hurry, not that I wanted to or would have, because I wasn't here to join the party. The music reached my ears through the door and the conversations and laughter from the guests filled the otherwise silent night.

I had said my name at the main entrance before the metal gates swung open and I could drive my car through, which clearly did not pass the fancy headphones to let these two giants know of my arrival.

"Can I help you?" asked one of them, his bald head gleaming under the light he was standing in.

I nodded. "My father is in there and he's talking to Mr. Jeon," I explained to him. "I have to go see him. So if you let me in..."

He just hummed doubtfully and both men blocked my way with nasty looks in their eyes. As if I didn't have enough to deal with, now I had to deal with security too.

The other raised his eyebrow. "Do you have an invitation?" he asked, crossing his massive arms in front of his chest.

"No," I replied.

"No invitation, no getting in."

I pinched the bridge of my nose. I knew they were just doing their job, but it wasn't like I was trying to terrorize the party or anything. "Listen. Ask whoever is in there about my father. His name is Riku Matokai."

But before the man could answer, or as it seemed from his expression, speak against it, the door opened behind him. A young man who was the eldest son of the family stepped onto the marble porch floor.

"Mr. Jeon, we'll sort this out—" the balding one began but was stopped by the man across from him.

"It's okay," he said in such a calm voice, which I thought didn't match his dark eyes. He focused his gaze on me. "Are you Reva?" I nodded and he cocked his head. "Come with me."

I put down the urge to give the man standing guard a look that said told you so and followed the oldest child of the Jeon family. I couldn't quite remember since we hadn't met on any occasion, but I believed his name was Yoongi. But I didn't care anyway.

All I could think about was where my father and Raiden were and why my father had called me here. He had always asked for my opinion and advice so far, so I wasn't surprised that the first person he called was always me.

I quietly followed Yoongi through the hallways, trying to ignore the glances thrown in my direction by passing guests. You would guess that successful and rich people would talk business and other fancy things, but they gossiped like any other person, if not more. So I assumed that this night also gave them a topic to whisper about under their breath.

Yoongi and I took the stairs up and his shiny varnished shoes came up clicking against the marble floor as we followed the hallway to the right. His expression was neutral, so I couldn't read much out of it, which only increased the tension and nervousness in my veins.

He opened a double door and I noticed how crooked his fly was, which I didn't bother to point out. And then I was met with dozens of eyes as everyone leaned against a different wall or sat on a sofa. I found Raiden leaning back against a wall and rushed in his direction.

"Rai." I breathed as I pulled him into my arms. He was taller than me, but at that moment he felt so small in my embrace. I pulled back to look into his eyes. "Where's dad? What happened?"

His voice was just as small as he answered me. "He's in there." his gaze followed the way to another door on the opposite wall. "He's talking to Mr. Jeon."

"About what?" I asked, almost impatiently. Raiden kept quiet, avoiding my eyes.

"About how your cousin snuck into our house and almost humiliated our whole family." a higher voice rang out, making us turn around. A middle-aged woman sat on the sofa, looking quite distressed. She scowled at Raiden, and though he was taller than me, I instinctively placed myself in front of him.

"I didn't sneak in. I was let in," said Raiden in an attempt to clear everything up, but the woman wasn't even listening to him. I had seen her on a few occasions and was aware that she was Mrs. Jeon.

"This is my house and I didn't give you permission!" she spat back. "And to top it off, I find you with my daughter. Oh my goodness, I think I'm going to faint."

She brought a hand to her forehead before her son Yoongi handed her a glass of water. A young girl stood beside the sofa with her head lowered, her hands clasped together in front of her body as the pearls glistened on her beautiful dress. I knew that she and Rai went to the same school and she looked the same age as him.

She seemed very embarrassed because her cheeks took on a pinkish hue and she pressed her lips into a straight line. I turned back to Raiden to be enlightened as to what exactly Mrs. Jeon meant by that, and Raiden's panicked expression found me.

"We were just hanging out, Reva. I swear," he said desperately. I smiled reassuringly at him, quietly telling him I believed him. Raiden never lied, even when he knew he could get in trouble.

"Hanging out. Does making out sound like hanging out to you?" The woman stood up now as if her anger was too much for the sitting position. She seemed like she needed to stand tall in the room, probably trying to make us small in the process. "What if he got her pregnant!"

"Mom, we didn't do anything like that!" her daughter's voice rang out, but she was silenced by her mother. I only spent ten minutes in this woman's near presence and I didn't need to see more to know how dramatic she was.

Sure, she was right to be upset that someone uninvited was in her house, and seeing your kid making out with someone was certainly weird, but I didn't see why all this fuss was taking place when it could be resolved peacefully.

Teenagers did these things a lot and if both were safe, why the hustle?

Maybe I thought all these things because I didn't have children, but I knew that if I had children someday, I would educate them better than Mrs. Jeon. Not that I was saying anything about their parenting, but that was exactly what I was saying.

"You know I can report your cousin for trespassing, don't you?"

Oh, now she was threatening us?

I raised my nose, now turning completely toward her. A mocking laugh rumbled in my chest. "You're welcome to try."

She brought a hand to her chest and looked around, checking for confirmation if what she had just heard was right. We ended in a silent scowl, but neither she nor I stepped back from it.

For some reason, her annoyance gave me satisfaction, because I loved putting people in their place who thought too much of themselves.

Mrs. Jeon opened her mouth, but before she could say anything, the door to the room that Raiden had said Father was in swung open. But out stepped another young man in a tuxedo, looking like a bull that had just seen red.

It was Jungkook. The second son of the family and an arrogant jerk, according to everyone I had known since high school. We weren't in the same classes because he was older than me, but it was enough for me to know this because people had never stopped talking about him.

He slammed the door behind him and a picture hanging on the wall shook with the harsh slam. His eyebrows were drawn together, but he adjusted his bow tie before taking long strides out of the room.

"We don't slam doors, young man!" his mother huffed after him, but he was already out of sight.

I hadn't seen Jungkook since his graduation, but his attitude still seemed the same, which honestly didn't surprise me in this family. I did wonder about one thing though and that was what must have been talked about in that room that made him so angry.

Mrs. Jeon dropped back into her seat and silence took over the room. The party went on below and I knew the guests were wondering about the hosts because thirty minutes had passed since I arrived and I knew this had been going on longer than that.

The young girl shifted from one foot to the other next to her mother, but her head was still hanging low. I felt bad for her because both Raiden nor she had done anything bad. At least not bad by my definition.

I wondered what her mother must have said to her. If she was held responsible for the family's honor, as was the case in many families. Whether the Jeon family now considered her guilty of having their dignity trampled underfoot.

Another ten minutes passed, but nothing stirred except the annoyed sighs and evil looks Mrs. Jeon threw in Raiden's direction and at her daughter. I was about to voice my opinion, to tell her that she was exaggerating.

"This is ridiculous." I scoffed, my patience wearing thin. I could barely see out of the corner of my eye Jungkook reappear in the doorway as I ran to the door that separated us from both men inside.

Ignoring Mrs. Jeon's complaints about what I was thinking by interrupting the conversation, I let my knuckles tap against the wood. After a few seconds, I heard a yes on the other side.

"It's Reva," I announced before I heard footsteps. Stepping away from the door in time before it hit me in the face, my father stepped out. The bags under his eyes had sunken in and he looked even more tired than he had at the dinner table.

"You came," he stated the obvious, and over his shoulder, I saw Mr. Jeon sitting at his desk.

I nodded. "Been here for over an hour. And I wanted to know if everything was okay." I told him, but he just hummed. "What are you two talking about for so long?"

He glanced around the room and then back at me. His identical gray eyes looked concerned for a reason. "We were just discussing a few things. We actually were wrapping it up." he smiled, but I was probably the only person in the world who could see through him. "We need a little bit longer. Take your cousin and go home, yeah?"

His hand on my shoulder felt warm, but still, a shiver ran down my spine. "Are you sure?"

"I'm sure." his hand on my shoulder dropped and he squeezed my hand. I held eye contact for a few seconds before sighing and nodding.

My father walked back into the room and closed the door behind him. Signaling Raiden to follow me back home, we headed for the exit. However, the massive body of none other than Jungkook blocked our way.

You'd think that letting someone walk by would be decent, but all he did was just stare at us with his arms crossed in front of his chest and his shoulder leaning against the door frame.

"Excuse me?" I raised both of my eyebrows in an attempt to tell him that he needed to step aside because he was blocking the way.

And yet he just allowed himself to roll his eyes before standing up straight and walking past us.

Now I saw why most people thought he was a jerk.

Ignoring this because he wasn't worth the space in my head, Raiden and I walked the long way back to my car in a hurry since it had started raining again. On the way home, Raiden told me in detail what had happened.

He and Jeon's daughter knew each other from school and had started talking. She had invited him to the party, to which he couldn't say no, because she always thought these kinds of parties were boring.

When they had started kissing, Mrs. Jeon had burst into the library where they were and started screaming. Apparently one of the guests had seen the two teens and told her, which is why she became so concerned about her family's image.

I rolled my eyes at the sheer exaggeration.

When we got back home I told Rai to go to his room and decided to wait for my father. The unsettling feeling in the pit of my stomach didn't fade and I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep until I talked to him about it.

My eyes almost fell shut, as I had been resting them while sitting on the sofa when my father entered the living room. He seemed surprised to see me waiting, but smiled anyway as he greeted me.

"What were you talking about?" I asked directly without beating around the bush.

Dad sighed. "The Jeon's were very upset about what happened. And rightfully so," he said. "But I assured them it wouldn't happen again. We worked it out."

I hummed in understanding, but I couldn't quite grasp it. Maybe it was my father's avoidant eyes or the fact that he forced a smile. But maybe he just wanted his peace and quiet after a long day and didn't want to spend eternities detailing everything.

"Okay. We got this, right?" I asked encouragingly.

For the first time in hours, my father looked at me with warm eyes and a genuine smile before taking me in his arms. I heard his voice rumble against my hair. "Yes. We got this."
