You land on the island of patch with Kolra and Kanniu in tow. You stand before your old home, a place you wished to never see again. For once, the only thing rising was your anxiety in place of your ki. It was enough to make you suffocate as you weren't looking forward to seeing your parents again. As you step towards the house, you stop and turn your head to the side to see a giant hole in the garden. You walk towards it causing Kolra to look at you in confusion.

Kolra: What's he doing..?

She asks Kanniu. The male Saiyan sighs and crosses his arms.

Kanniu: Procrastinating.

Kanniu answers as he then follows after you. You stare into the hole, your eyes locked onto a small cross made of sticks in the middle.

Kanniu: It's till here, the hole you made the day Candy and I found you.

Kanniu states. You scan the hole and notice lumps of dirt.

(Y/n): Someone's been trying to fill it.

You point out causing Kanniu to look into the hole. He shrugs at this observation.

Kanniu: Are you surprised? Your adoptive sisters obviously revealed your survival to your adoptive father. Of course he's gonna fill a hole this big if there's no meaning to it anymore.

As you step away from the hole, the sudden sound of a flappy door catches the attention of all three Saiyans. Your eyes widen as a familiar furry companion barks.

(Y/n): Zwei!

You shout with happiness as the other two Saiyans watch you run to him as the black and white corgi jumps into your arms and showers you with licks.

Kolra: Aww. At least he has one person he cares about here.

Kanniu nods as he sees the door to the wooden house open revealing Taiyang Xiao Long.

Tai: Zwei. What's wrong buddy? Did you see a squi-

As soon as his eyes land on you holding Zwei, he freezes and his mouth is left hung open. You stare at him, frozen too. Kanniu and Kolra watch the scene as you stand in silence. You swallow hard as Tai's mouth starts to move again.

Tai: (Y-(Y/n)?

He stutters. You take a deep exhale through your nose as your stroke Zwei's ear.

(Y/n): ...Hey Tai...

You respond with a mix of anger and nervousness.

Meanwhile~

In the streets of vale, Will walks through the crowds with Vi and Cream along side him.

Cream: So...your second hustle is exterminating rats?

Will nods as he crackles lightning in his hands.

Will: Yep. Was really good at it back at my old home. Really filled a hole in my life.

Vi: Killing rats completes you?

Vi questions causing Will to nod.

Vi: Right...So why are Cream and I tagging along?

She questions.

Cream: Yeah, all you said is that we wouldn't regret it.

Cream cuts in. Will turns the corner where it is less crowded and turns to them to talk while walking backwards.

Will: You won't, trust me. You two need this.

He says. The two girls only get more confused by this. Seeing their confusion, Will continues on.

Will: Cream, You need to relax. When (Y/n) said he was going to his old home to find the adoption papers, you were really keen to go with him despite your dad and Kolra saying they'd tag along.

Cream gives him a slightly annoyed face.

Cream: Is it wrong to be an overprotective sister...?

She asks which causes Will to point at her and give her a 'see' look.

Will: That's your problem. I know he's had a rough past and you want to be the best sibling, above Yang and Ruby. But that's the thing, you already are. Breathing space right now is what he needs...even if, to him. He is going to the worst place in the world...

He explains. Will then looks at Vi.

Will: Vi...I know the whole Nanite and Zero thing is still bugging you. I know the body language, the mood, the whole list. You need to escape it, even if just for a little while.

Vi and Cream look down. Both girls were disappointed and a little angry but deep down they knew he was right. Will turns around to face forward and looks to his right. He comes to a stop and smiles.

Will: Ah! We're here!

The two girls look at the location they have stopped at and raise an eyebrow.

Vi: Furbaby cafe?

She reads the name of the cafe out loud.

Cream: The hell's a furbaby?

The majin girl asks causing Will to open the door to the cafe and beckon the two girls in.

Will: Pretty much heaven. If you're a pet owner that is.

The two girls walk in and are immediately greeted by cats laying down on the shelves, tables and chairs in the Cafe. The two girls gasp as Will closes the door behind them and smirks at their stunned expressions.

Cafe owner: Ah, are you Will?

Will turns to the owner of the cafe and nods.

Will: Yes ma'am. Heard you had some unwanted guests running above.

He says as the girls are still gasping, even with some of the cats purring and rubbing against their legs.

Cafe owner: Wasn't expecting some more company. Are they your assistants.

The cafe owner asks as, gesturing over to Cream and Vi who eventually fall to their knees and are consumed by a wave of cats.

Will: No, just friends. They needed this opportunity to unwind so I brought them along.

He explains as he is then shown the entrance to the attic.

Cafe owner: I'm not sure how many are up there so I didn't want to do the cheap thing and send an army of cats. Could have done more harm than good...

The Cafe owner explains as Will shines his light on the attic and sees a few rats run behind cover.

Will: Your instinct is correct. Don't want one of your little cuddly friends to come through the roof if they pounced or huddled together.

Will then puts on a respirator mask and climbs into the roof fully.

Will: I'll come down once I'm done.

He says giving the owner a thumbs up before closing the entrance to the attic.

Back with you~

Kolra and Kanniu stand at the door watching you tap your foot while looking up at the top of the staircase.

Kolra: ...Is it a good idea to hang this far back...?

The female Saiyan asks. This prompts a shrug from Kanniu.

Kanniu: Probably not. Wanna get closer in case things get out of hand?

He suggests. Kolra shoots a confused look at Kanniu.

Kolra: Who exactly is this man to (Y/n)?

She asks.

(Y/n): He'll be no one after we get what we came for.

You respond coldly.

Kolra and Kanniu exchanged glances, sensing the tension radiating from you enough to turn the  atmosphere thick. As you hesitated at the bottom of the staircase, Kolra's curiosity got the better of her.

Kolra: It might help to talk about it.

You shot her a quick glance, your expression unreadable but your heart racing.

(Y/n): I don't need to talk, Kolra. I just need to get this over with.

You took a deep breath and walk up the stairs.

(Y/n): How hard is it to find papers...

You say to yourself as you walk up to the second floor. The familiar sights brought an unwelcome wave of nostalgia. The wooden floorboards creak as you hear rustling in the room next to you.

You peek to see Taiyang pulling out draws and tossing old papers aside. You see a glimpse of one of the papers with bold writing that said 'missing'. You tilt your head to see an old picture of you when you were Six.

You hear footsteps approach from behind and turn to see Qrow with his hands in his pockets.

Qrow: Never thought I'd see the day when you'd be stepping on these wooden floors again.

He comments. You give a small smile that fades as soon as you return your sights on Tai.

(Y/n): ...He's stalling...Is Raven and Summer on the way?

Qrow looks at you with seriousness in his eyes.

Qrow: Summer...she's gone.

You look at him a bit shocked.

(Y/n): Shit...I'm sorry...how-

Qrow cuts you off by shrugging and answering you mid sentence.

Qrow: Don't know. She left with my sister and that was the last Tai saw of her.

You look at him confused.

(Y/n): When did you last see her?

Qrow looks at the room across from the both of you. A deep exhale escapes his nostrils.

Qrow: I've...been busy these days. I can barely see my nieces.

You go to open your mouth until you feel a sudden chill and look up at the roof. Downstairs, Kanniu does the same thing as he uncrosses his arms causing Kolra to be on alert.

Kolra: What is it?

Qrow opened his mouth to speak, but you cut him off again.

(Y/n): I just want the adoption papers. That's it. Once I get them, I'm out of here.

You say as your eyes dart at the ceiling. Qrow notices your alertness and steps closer.

Qrow: I understand....Are you okay?

You snap out of your alertness and look at him.

(Y/n): I-

Taiyang: Here they are.

Taiyang chimes in and holds up the adoption papers.

(Y/n): Finally.

You feel a rush of relief as you grasp the adoption papers in your hands. The weight of the past wasn't entirely lifted, but at least this part was finally coming to a close. You barely glance at Tai as you turn the pages, your mind racing with thoughts of what this moment means.

Tai's voice breaks through your focus, a mixture of hope and caution lacing his tone.

Tai: (Y/n), I... I know things were rough between us, but I want you to know that I care about you. Ruby and Yang do too.

You clench the papers tightly, your emotions swirling as you process his words. Nonetheless you swallow hard.

(Y/n): Mhm..

Is all you respond with causing Tai's expression to falter, and you see the hurt in his eyes.

Tai: I want you to know that I've changed, So have Ruby and Yang.

You shoot him a glare that would cut even the thickest of ice.

(Y/n): It doesn't matter anymore. You don't get to just waltz back into my life and pretend everything's fine.

Kolra, who had been silently watching from the first steps, speaks up, her voice firm but gentle.

Kolra: (Y/n), maybe you should hear him out. If he was your father I'm sure he-

(Y/n): You don't understand, Kolra...he is the reason I spent most of my childhood in fear, hateful. I can never forgive him...

You stare at Tai with anger and step towards him which causes him to back off.

(Y/n): He's only apologetic cause I bet the girls told him I could kill him and them with a finger..

Qrow interjects, trying to diffuse the tension.

Qrow: That's not true, (Y/n). I was there, they said nothing of the sort. Look, I know this is a lot to take in. We've all made mistakes.

You look at Qrow with uncertainty while he looks at you with confidence and certainty.

Qrow: At least hear him out.

You feel a pang of uncertainty, but deep down, you know he's right. You've been running from your past for too long. Ever since you started working at beacon.

(Y/n): Fine. Say what you need to say, Tai.

Tai hesitates for a moment, searching for the right words.

Tai: I'm not asking for forgiveness, just a chance to make things right. I regret turning away from you. Not taking your word... Trusting my own flesh and blood before the desperate cries of a hurt child...

Zwei comes between the two of you and sits while looking up at you specifically. He pants as you look down at him and pick him up. A mixture of anger and sadness bubbles inside you.

(Y/n): You were a coward...you still are. The fact that you are here and not in a jail cell is nothing more than a miracle.

Tai looks at you shocked.

Tai: That's not true.

(Y/n): What's the truth then? Is it that instead of confronting your problems you'd rather bury them and chalk them up as accidents that are unfixable.

You say referring to the hole in the front yard. You could tell that guilt washed over Tai's features as he tries to avoid your gaze.

You give Zwei a kiss on his forehead and put him down. You fold the papers up and stuff them in your pocket.

(Y/n): Keep that hole in your front yard. It's the only thing you'll have to remember me by. It'll also serve as a reminder that you did and still have lost a son.

You say with venom as Tai steps back, stunned by your words as Qrow just watches the whole ordeal unfold in front of him. You turn your back on Tai and walk back down the stairs. You nod at Kolra and Kanniu to which they nod back as the three of you leave the house.

Qrow looks at Tai and shrugs.

Qrow: Honestly, that could have ended a lot worse.

Tai looks at him.

Tai: How? What could be worse than my own son saying he'd rather me still think he was dead?

Qrow shrugs and pulls out his flask and takes a swig.

Qrow: Considering the elements here; an abused child grown up to be an alien going through adolescence with power that could possibly wipe out an entire kingdom. I'd say you got off easy.

Qrow comments and leaves Tai in the hallway to think to himself.

Meanwhile outside, you take deep breaths and look up at the sky. Kanniu comes next to you and puts his hand on your shoulder.

Kanniu: You did what you needed to do. Facing the past is never easy.

You take a deep breath, your heart still heavy but a bit lighter than before.

(Y/n): Tell me about it.

You say before turning to Kanniu.

(Y/n): By the way...did you feel that energy heading towards us too?

You ask. Kanniu nods and looks up at the sky.

Kanniu: I did. It almost feels familiar...in a bad way.

Kolra: You guys can sense energy without scouters too?

Kanniu looks at her.

Kanniu: Yeah. Kolra you can as well?

Kolra nods and recalls how she learnt it.

Kolra: Most people in my clan can do it. I mostly had to learn it through pure observation though...

Kanniu was taken back by this information.

(Y/n): Only through observation? Damn Kolra, you're really impressive.

Kolra smiles with a blush.

Kolra: It's not exactly perfect but I'll get the hang of it sooner or later.

You look at Kanniu who smirks and nods

Kanniu: I could teach you the missing pieces to that technique.

Kolra perks up from this.

Kolra: Really?! Oh thank you master.

Kanniu: Okay first of all call me Kanniu, I hate being called master.

Kanniu cuts her off. Kolra nods and starts walking ahead. As soon as she's out of hearing range, you walk up to Kanniu and whisper to him while looking up.

(Y/n): I think that energy we sensed might be her capturers...

You point out. Kanniu nods and looks at you.

Kanniu: Go grab Cream, Vi and Will. I'll explain the situation to Kolra then Ozpin.

You nod and start to float high up into the sky.

Kanniu: And hurry!

You nod once more before kicking it into fourth and flying away at high speed towards Cream's energy.

(Y/n): Who's energy was that coming towards the planet? I wonder if it's that Rota guy Kolra told me about.

You wonder as you fly faster as you could feel the energy still rapidly approaching remnant.

If it is a Saiyan, are they friend or foe...?
