Chapter 4: The Badge

(Dairoku's POV)

I woke up at around 8am and decided to get into my uniform; mine was custom made so that my wings would fit. I put on my Dreadful Sins in their gauntlet forms and my sun-shaped necklace before I walked out of my dorm. I was wondering how well RWBY and JNPR were settling into Beacon. When I got closer to their dorms, I grew confused when I heard construction tools coming from RWBY's dorm... I walked up to their room and knocked. Ruby was the one to answer it and she seemed slightly surprised to see it was me

Ruby: Oh, h-hey Aya- I mean, Dairoku.

Me: Hey there Little Rose. I was about to check on you girls to see if you guys were settling in, buuuuttttttt...

I tilted my head to look past Ruby to see their room decorated and Weiss, Blake and Yang constructing something that looked like Bunk Beds

Me: You girls look like you're doing just fine... By the way, I... wanted to apologize for lying to you... If I knew it would have made you that upset, I wouldn't have done it, if it meant not making you cry...

Ruby: N-No! It's okay... I'm just... happy that you're still here, that you're still here with me...

Her face slightly turned red when she said that, to which I smiled... I patted her head to her surprise

Me: I'm glad to hear that Little Rose. I'll leave you girls to finish your 'renovations'. I'll see you in class.

Ruby: Y-Yeah! You too.

(Ruby's POV)

When I closed the door, I looked down and remember how regretful Dairoku looked... Then his smile afterwards... I placed my hand on my head, where he patted it and began to blush more... His hand felt... warm... I heard snickering behind me... When I turned around, I saw Yang smirking at me...

Yang: Aww, you thinking about him, Little Rose~?

Me: S-SHUT UP YANG!!!!

"IT'S A BADGE YOU CONSTANTLY WEAR"
CHAPTER 4: THE BADGE

(Dairoku's POV)

After talking with Ruby, I went to my first class, which was with Professor Port.

When I arrived at his class, it was empty except for the professor writing something on the board; I was early but my Team was usually the first ones to get to class. When I walked in, I decided to greet the jolly old bugger with a smile.

Me: Good Morning Professor Port.

Port: Ahh, good morning to you too, Mr. Rein. You're as early as ever. Please have a seat.

I complied and walked up to my bench which was at the front of the class. When I sat down though, I heard growling and kind of got defensive, until I saw the cage next to the board...

Me: I see you've caught another Boarbatusk.

Port: Amazing perception as always, Mr. Rein.

I sat there waiting for the rest of the students to arrive so class could start; I was preparing to write down notes, mainly so that my teammates wouldn't miss anything important. After a while, I realized that RWBY and JNPR weren't here yet...

Me: Where the hell are they? Their late...

Finally, RWBY and JNPR hastily entered the classroom; hmm... I sense some déjà vu... I remember, when it was my team's first day... we were late as well... How embarrassing...

Port: Ah, Teams RWBY and JNPR. Please try to make it to class on time.

Ruby: Sorry sir! Won't happen again!

Port: Good, now please take your seats.

RWBY saw me and went to sit next to me, with Ruby on my right and WBY on my left while JNPR sat in the row above us.

Me: What took ya'll so long?

Ruby: Sorry... we... kinda lost track of time... Ehehehe...

I just shook my head in amusement before Professor Port began his class.

(3rd Person POV)

So there they were, the newly formed Team RWBY and JNPR sitting with Dairoku, leader of Team RCST in the class of Professor Port. As the class went on, Ruby began messing around to Weiss' annoyance. Dairoku wasn't telling her to stop or anything, in fact he was kind of encouraging her but he did his best to keep her somewhat in line. Weiss did not like this at all; she expected Dairoku Rein, someone who's so legendary to be wise and strict, instead he was acting immature. Dairoku didn't seem to be paying much attention to Port but that was mainly because what he was doing was mainly an introduction for the first years. After a while, Port asked a question that took Ruby and Dairoku's attention, the latter because he asked this same question during his first year.

Port: So, who amongst you believe themselves to be the embodiment of these traits?

Weiss immediately shot up, not to Dairoku's surprise.

Weiss: I do sir!

Port: Well, let's find out! Step forward and face your opponent!

(Time skip)

Weiss came back from the locker room in her normal combat gear and Myrtenaster, her Dust Revolver-Rapier and went up to the stage. When she did RBY cheered for her but she just glared at Ruby specifically which caught Dairoku's attention. Professor Port proceeded to unleash his Boarbatusk at her as she engaged it but it was giving her a run for her money, even temporarily disarming her. Ruby attempted to give her advice such as striking the belly of the Boarbatusk as it wasn't armored but Weiss just shushed her; ironically enough, she actually took the advice and stabbed the belly of the Boarbatusk, killing it. She gave Ruby another glare before leaving to put away Myrtenaster and to change back into her uniform. Ruby followed her and Dairoku decided to do the same. When he got out of the class, he heard Weiss berating Ruby

Ruby: Weiss!

Weiss: What?

Ruby: What's wrong with you? Why are you being-

Weiss: What's wrong with me? What's wrong with you! You're supposed to be a leader and all you've been so far is a nuisance.

Ruby: What did I do?

Weiss: That's just it! You've done nothing to earn your position! Back in the forest, you acted like a child and you've continued to do so.

Ruby: Weiss, where is this coming from? What happened to all of the talk about working together? I thought you believed in acting as a team.

Weiss: Not a team led by you. I've studied, and trained, and quite frankly, I deserve better.

Dairoku, who was still eavesdropping, had just about enough and decided to speak up.

Dairoku: You deserve better? Now that's just ironic when you're the one acting like a spoilt, entitled brat, Ice Queen.

Dairoku came from around the corner to see Ruby and Weiss looking at hum, the latter looking more upset at him

Weiss: And don't even get me started on you!

Dairoku: What's your problem Ice Queen? Are you just trying to control other's lives to your liking?

Weiss: No! My problem is that you, a prodigy of a legendary Huntsman is acting even more so like a child than her! And quite frankly, I can't even begin to think how someone like you managed to even become a leader. I would be a better leader than you.

Ruby: Weiss!

Dairoku didn't say anything for a while but then he spoke up.

Dairoku: That's awfully funny because when I look at you, I don't see a leader... In fact, I don't think you can become a reliable leader, at least not in your current state. What I see, is a girl born with fortune, who spent her entire life getting everything she wanted, just with a Thanos Snap of her finger. You chose to go against your father and attend Beacon to become a Huntress, yet your beginning to sound more and more like him every day.

Weiss looked slightly shocked at Dairoku, especially from the mention of her terrible father but then she quickly angered.

Weiss: How dare you! None of that is even remotely true!

Dairoku: Oh? Is that so? Alright, then prove it. You have Professor Goodwitch's class next right?

Weiss: Yes and your point is?

Dairoku: Let's have a dual and a wager. If you win, I'll officially make you the leader of Team RCST.

Weiss: And if you win?

Dairoku: You'll have to move away from that entitled attitude of yours and give Ruby a chance. So do we have a deal?

Weiss: Deal!

The two adversaries shook hands before Weiss walked off feeling confident, leaving Dairoku with Ruby who looked, a bit stressed at the fact that her friends were fighting. She turned around and walked up Dairoku, with a bit of a nervous and apologetic look on her face

Ruby: T-Thank you for helping me, again Dairoku... And, I'm sorry that she said those things about you...

Dairoku: Nah, its fine Little Rose. I get those comments from people a lot so it really doesn't bother me... But... part of what she said, was true

Ruby: H-Huh? What do you mean?

Dairoku: *sigh* you are a leader now Little... Ruby. And that isn't only a title you carry into battle like Weiss believes. It's a badge you wear constantly and can never take off. If you aren't performing at your absolute best, then what reason do others have to follow you?

She looked down, a bit disheartened by his words but suddenly felt the warmth of his hand rest on her head. She looked up to see him giving her a warm and comforting smile.

Dairoku: But... These are all things you're going to learn so don't feel down or hopeless. It's only been a day and you can't expect to turn into a wise and knowledgeable leader overnight; you've still got four more years to become an amazing leader. And I'll be there with you, every step of the way. I swear on it.

Ruby couldn't help but smile warmly at Dairoku as tears fell from her glistering silver eyes and she blushed. She hugged to which he returned without hesitation

Ruby: Thank you, Dairoku...

Dairoku: Anytime, Little Rose...
