Part 3: Christmas Story ~ Keith's Christmas Encounter
Around 12:30 am...
After everyone at their snacks, they started to get comfortable in the lounge again. "Okay Keith," Lance spoke. "Tell us, what memory of Christmas that you treasured the most."
"Well, I barely remember the timed that I spend time Christmas with my dad." Keith begun, "And after he died, I haven't be able to celebrate Christmas since then."
Oh great, Lance thought. A scrooge within our mix, yah.
"But..." Keith interrupted Lance's thoughts, "I do keep one memory. Something that is close to me for quiet sometime, without anyone acknowledge about."
"Oh, a secret Christmas gift." Pidge smirked, "Who is it from?"
"Well...it's kind of from...from a girl..." Keith blushed a bit,
"A girl," Shiro raised an eyebrow. "You never told me that when we first have our Christmas together,"
"Uh...well..." Keith nearly mumbled as his cheeks turned pink,
"Oh, this is going to be good." Lance smiled as he leaned forward. Others followed.
Keith jumped, I know that I'm going to regret this, Keith thought as he sighed. Just get this over with, he breath for a bit. "Well...it has happened back when I was still a kid." Keith begun, "After my dad died, I've been bouncing around to foster homes after foster homes. I was always a lone wolf, until around one Christmas season. I was never felt like I was part of the group. I never include myself for exchanging gifts on one night. Farther in the field, I was torn to say that I miss the time of having Christmas or not to like Christmas anymore. Torn of saying "bah humbug" or being cheerful for the Holiday. I don't know what to choose anymore, all I ever wanted is my dad and miracle of choice. Until I've heard a girls' voice. Asking me...why I was crying?"
"Keith..." Lance smirked, "You crying?" Lance laughed, "Oh man, that is very..."
Keith narrowed at Pidge for a moment,
Pidge nodded and hit Lance in the arm.
"Ow!!" Lance shouted, "Pidge?!" he rubbed his arm,
"You be quiet, will ya?" Pidge whispered, "Keith is sharing his Christmas story,"
Thank you Pidge, Keith thought as he cooled off. "As I was saying," Keith continued. "I turned around and saw a girl that is standing right behind me. I may not be smart as you Pidge, but I could nearly estimate her that she is close about to be in my age."
"I won't be offended by that," Pidge shrugged.
"Is that so?" Allura spoke, "Tell me, what does this girl even look like?"
"Well..." Keith rubbed his neck, "Her hair is up in a pony tail but it is in a color of a caramel-blond I think. Her skin is nearly a peach color, and her eyes are rose colored mixed with an orchid. I think,"
"Interesting," Pidge smiled. "Can't believe that you remember that quiet so well,"
Keith's eyes widened as his cheeks turned brightly pink, "Well...I uh..."
"And how about his question," Allura spoke. "Do you remember what she is wearing during that night?"
"Well yeah, I do but..." Keith look at the paladins, "Do you guys used to go to church back on Earth?"
Church? both Allura and Coran wondered,
"Sort of," Lance spoke.
"Maybe," both Pidge and Shiro replied.
"A little bit," Hunk shrugged.
"Why questioning about that?" Coran raised an eyebrow,
"Well," Keith look at the paladins again. "You guys may have seen the kids plays and dressed up as angels and stuff for Christmas?"
"Yeah," the paladins replied.
"Well...she sorts of dress up as an angel on that night," Keith spoke. "Well minus a halo and shoes of course. And her wings, they kind of actually looks like a bow."
"You're serious right?" Hunk spoke,
Keith nodded,
"No way man," Lance panicked.
"Wish that I was anyway," Keith muttered.
"Umm, what's an angel?" Allura asked,
"Oh, it's a creature that lives within Christianity cultures back on Earth." Pidge explained, "It also for the similar term known as a Celestial Being,"
"Did you say, "celestial being"?" both Allura and Coran asked as their eyes widened,
"Yes, I did." Pidge nearly jumped, "But..."
"Number four," Coran turned to Keith. "How many wings does she have and what color of the edge of her wings are?"
"Uh...she has four wings and the edges are in a color of silver," Keith answered. "Why would you...?"
"Nothing," Allura replied. "It's just nothing, and it sees that we both have a similar creature for our culture as well."
"That's interesting," Siro exclaimed.
"No kidding," Lance nodded.
"Keith," Shiro turned to Keith. "Please continue,"
"Alright," Keith spoke. "As I was saying, that this girl. Never asked her name but...she was looking at me with a look that is full of curiosity. I told her that I wasn't crying. She was kind of interested of knowing what I was shedding tears back then. So instead of hiding, I kind of explained to her that I missed my dad and that I'm very comfortable of having Christmas with him. Nothing or nobody else. After I have finished telling her my story, the girl sighed and look at me with pity in her eyes. She told me that she knows that she can't fix the past or bring back the dead. But she also said that, there is a way for me to have a Spirit of Christmas come right back to me. Back into my heart,"
"Back into your heart?" Lance echoed,
"How?" Pidge eagerly asked, "And with what?"
Keith chuckled, "I asked her those same question on that night, and you won't believe what just happened before she could answer."
"What?" Allura asked,
"If I could swear right in front of her back then," Keith lean back with his arms crossed. "That I could have sworn that her wing-bow are actual wings. That can allow her to fly,"
"Say what?" both Allura and Coran jumped,
"Fly?" the Paladins raised an eyebrow,
"You might be dreaming or quiznaking about it Keith," Lance grunted.
"I'm very serious about it Lance," Keith leaned forward.
"He's right Lance," Pidge spoke. "The way that we are experiencing, anything is possible now-a-days,"
"Hmph, yeah you're right." Lance calms down,
"Well, as I was saying." Keith calms down, "Her wings defiantly are flapping and lifting her up in the air, and all. Yeah, I was in shock during the time, but it is true, and...when she was in the air. She cupped her hands together and summon something out of nowhere. Within that moment, a jeweled music box appeared right into her hand."
"A music box?" Allura asked,
"What kind of music box? And what does it look like?" Coran asked,
"If I remember right," Keith spoke. "It is nearly a cylinder shape, but it has three different colors in different areas. One silver area. One golden area. And in the middle, I think that it is more like a golden-bronze type color. And it is decorated with rubies, pearls and I think that there are tinsels that are colored silver and gold attached to the surface."
"Whoa," Lance exclaimed.
"You can say that again," Keith smiled. "But as she held it in front of her, she said that. With that music box, it will show both music and memories that could most dear to me. But the only way to activate it, only works for once a year on either Christmas Eve or Christmas day. All I have to do, is to give her a gift in return."
"Give her a gift...in return," Pidge echoed.
Yeah right, Lance thought. As if,
"Did she give the music box to you?" Shiro asked,
"She sure did," Keith nodded. "But there is, however, a problem."
"What is it?" Hunk asked,
"Since she is giving a gift to me, she was not allowed to touch the ground. So, I must take it from her while she is handing it to me."
"Seriously?" Lance left eye twitched,
"Did you really do it?" Allura eagerly asked,
"Yes, I did, but gently."
"Why gentle?"
"I was still in shock that she is flying and all," Keith answered. 'And boy, I still remember how warm and soft that her skin was felt like.' Keith thought as he cleared his throat. "Anyway, she only told me that it only works once a year. Nothing else. Before I could ask her any questions, she has disappeared without a trace. That was the last time that I saw her since I was a kid,"
"Seriously?" Lance eyes widened,
"So, within that request of leave any gifts," Shiro spoke. "did you leave her any gifts since then?"
"I...I wasn't sure what I could give to her around those times from growing up," Keith answered. "I haven't left anything for her in years, not until..."
"Until what?" Hunk asked,
"Until you and your groups disappearance from the Kerberos mission," Keith answered as he turned to Shiro.
"Seriously?" Shiro asked, "You give her a gift after my group and my own disappearance?"
Keith nodded, "I was lost and depressed back then when it was announced. I wasn't sure what to do, I need encouragement. An inspiration for me to find away to find you, that when I decided to give a gift to her. Without her gift, I still be lost, and I wouldn't have been led me to find you."
"Keith," Shiro muttered.
"So...Keith," Pidge spoke. "What did you give to her as a gift to give you inspiration?"
"Sorry, I won't tell you." Keith nodded, "It's top secret,"
"What?" Pidge jumped,
"Wait," Lance raised his head. "Now you mention it, I did somehow noticed that your hands Keith."
"My hands?" Keith raised an eyebrow,
Lance nodded, "I have noticed them that they were cover with blisters and bandages while we were still at the Garrisons."
Keith jumped,
"Yeah, I have noticed them to. I thought you had an accident or something," Hunk added.
"What?" Keith eyes widened,
"Are you kidding?" Shiro asked, "Keith would do a lot better than having an accident like that,"
"True," Pidge nodded.
"So that mean that has left with one thing," Lance smirked. "Did you made something for her by your own bare hands?"
"None of your business Lance," Keith growled as his cheeks reddened.
"Yup, that's what I've thought." Lance smirk,
"Huh?" Keith nearly jumped,
"The color on your face," Lance pointed. "That means that you are blushing, that is a result about one thing..."
"Shut up Lance!" Keith growled as his eyes turned Galra from his half-blood side.
Both Allura and Coran nearly jumped, Shiro saw that. He calmly stood up between Lance and Keith.
"Whoa," Shiro spoke. "Settle down you two," suddenly, Keith calmed down and his eyes return to normal.
Allura nervously cleared her throat, "Well...did the girl take the gift Keith?"
"Uh...yeah, she did." Keith nodded, "And the music box took its place when it is gone on Christmas morning. She wrote a note for me and told me that I must open the silver side of the music box."
"The silver side?" everyone echoed,
"Yeah," Keith nodded. "The music box has two lids to open. The silver lid and the gold lid. But since she said the silver lid, so I open it."
"Did it play music for you?" Hunk asked,
"It did, but I won't tell you." Keith smirked,
"Why not?" Pidge asked,
"I like to keep it to myself,"
"That's fair," Pidge shrugged.
Allura nodded,
"Well, I wonder what the gift that you are going to give her tonight." Lance smirked proudly,
'I never got the chance to...' Keith thought,
"Probably that you left a missile toe for her," Lance chuckled.
"Lance, SHUT UP!" Keith blushed as he growled,
"You two enough," Shiro spoke. "It's very late and we're all tired, and we got work to do in the morning. So, let's get some sleep, for all of us. And Lance,"
"Yeah?" Lance asked,
"Do not tease Keith anymore that you already have,"
"What?" Lace jumped,
"And you Keith, put yourself on a leash." Shiro spoke,
"As long as Lance would stop saying things like that," Keith muttered.
"Fair enough," Shiro nodded. "Come on everyone, let's get to bed."
"Alright," everyone spoke.
"Goodnight," Pidge spoke.
"Merry Christmas," Lance and Hunk spoke as they all left the lounge.
