So this is basically an AU, where Pidge is Hiro, and all that. Enjoy my beautiful voltron-loving hoomans.

Katie sat in her chair, slumping slightly as she looked at the bot-fighting poster taking up a good portion of her wall. Her bot sat lifelessly at the edge of her computer, awaiting commands. Katie groaned, pushing up her glasses and rubbing her eyes tiredly. She hated waiting into the night for an available bot fight. Katie stretched her arms out and yawned, looking at the clock positioned in her monitor. 11:57. She fiddles with her bot, moving it's gears, making sure it operated as it should, in case a bot fight came up.

All of a sudden, she hears feet clambering up the stairs. She places her bot on the table, a little too heavily, and bellyflops onto her bed, pretending to be asleep. She squeezes her eyes shut, moving her face away from the entrance of the room she shared with her brother, Matt.

"KAAAATIEEE!" Matt yelled, throwing the bedroom door open grandly, in a  stance that would put Opera to shame.

"Maaaatttttt," Katie whined, in a tired voice, rolling over to find her ecstatic older brother's sandy hair in her face as he picked her up. Matt heaved as he picked up Katie, positioning her on his shoulders, upside down. 

Katie folds her arms in protest as her glasses fall on the floor. "What are you doing?"

Matt smirked out of Katie's line of sight. "Helping you for your entrance to the best school ever, and just shaking things up." and he proceeded to bounce around her room, Katie's shirt slipping around her stomach as he did so.

"Look from a new angle."

Katie's eyes landed on her bot. She craned her neck to the side, to look at it better, and a lightbulb clicked on in her brain. She grinned.

Prior to this event...

Matt threw open the doors of a giant lab, and Katie's eyes widened in awe. Maybe this wasn't a nerd lab, she thought silently.

Scattered around the lab were items and new developed technology the students had been working on, some of them moving around on tiny robots, others playing games against them.

"Welcome to the "Nerd Lab"." Matt sneaks a smirk at Katie, and she sticks her tongue out at him teasingly.

Katie's eyes are drawn to a bike in the corner, red in colour, and the wheels were suspended in the air.

"Woah. Electromagnetic suspension?" She whispered in wonder, hovering her hand in between the bike and the wheel.

"Hey. Who are you?" An annoyed voice snapped behind her, and she turned around to find a completely shrouded person, with a helmet on top of their head, which was red like the bike.

"Keith, this is my sister, Katie."

The boy's helmet popped off with a whooshing sound, and Katie came face to face with a fairly handsome man, with the most impressive mullet she had ever seen, and of course, a frown.

"Welcome to the "Nerd Lab"." He rolled his eyes, and Katie felt her face turn red.

"I-i've never seen electromagnetic suspension on a bike before." She marvelled, drawing the subject away from her embarrassing remark.

"Zero resistance," Keith said, spinning the wheel, "Faster bike." He held the wheel, and sighed.

"But," He pulled the wheel off with a grunt, tossing it into a bin full of other wheels that had been tested, "Not fast enough. Yet."

As Keith got back to making the new wheel, Katie wandered over to a seperate room, secluded from the others, with a fairly big guy dressed in yellow, and rocking a yellow headband tweaking two poles standing to attention in the centre of the room.

As Katie stepped forward across a hazard line on the floor, the boy finally realised she was there and held his hand out in warning.

"Woah, woah, woah, behind the line please!" He said, motioning to the line Katie stepped over. As she stepped back, Matt came up behind her.

"Hey Hunk. This is my sister, Katie." Matt said, gesturing to her as she pushed her glasses up her nose shyly.

Hunk propped his lab glasses up on his hair. "Hello Katie. Prepare to be amazed." He walked around behind the two poles and grabbed an apple.

"Catch." He smirked as he tossed the apple through the two beams, and it sliced itself paper thin, sending it drifting over Katie's head slowly.

"Wow." Her jaw dropped as she plucked one of the pieces out of the air and held it in between her two fingers.

Hunk grinned as he flicked a switch on the table, making the little razor sharp beams visible.

"Laser-induced plasma?" Katie asked, walking around the poles cautiously.

"Oh yeah. With a little magnetic confinement for, uh, ultra-precision." He said walking over to a table with little outlines of gadgets on the table, straightening one of the gears.

"How do you find anything in all of this mess?" She said, picking up a magnifying glass from the table and peering through it.

Hunk plucked the glass from Katie's hands and placed it in it's spot. "There's a system. There's a place for everything, and everything in it's place.

Keith stretched over the table, messing up a fine array of things and grabbing a wrench from it. "Need this."

"What-no! You can't do that!" Hunk yelled, chasing after Keith hurriedly.

"'SCUSE ME, COMING THROUGH!" A boy yelled, ignoring the battle between Hunk and Keith for the wrench, hot pink earphones in his ears as he wheeled a giant black ball onto a podium. 

Katie followed the ecstatic boy into a room full of mixtures and files of all sorts. The boy finally noticed Katie's presence, and yelled once again.

"OH MY GOSH! YOU MUST BE KATIE! I'VE HEARD SOO MUCH ABOUT YOU!" The boy yelled, pulling out his earphones and kissing Katie once on both cheeks, pulling her beside him. "Come on, come on, come on!" He said excitedly.

"Whoa. That's a whole lot of tungsten carbonite." Katie marveled, as he grabbed her shoulders, looking into her eyes with a slightly crazy look. "Four hundred pounds of it." He grinned, his glasses slipping down his nose, and he pushed them up, pulling Katie along to a contraption of joined potions.

"C'mere, c'mere, c'mere, you're going to love this!" He grinned.

"A dash of perchloric acid, a smidge of cobalt, a hint of hydrogen peroxide, superheated to five hundred Calvin and..!" He brought the new mixture, contained in a spray bottle to the black orb and began spraying it hurriedly, dancing maniacally around it. Once it was fully covered, the boy flicked a switch embedded in the wall, and the orb turned pure pink.

"Ta-daa! It's pretty great, huh?" He boy grinned ecstatically at Katie, gripping her shoulders, who smirked a little at the crazy boy.

Katie looked a little uncertain. "So...pink?" 

The boy rolled his eyes, still smiling. "Here's the best part!" He inched forward, and pressed his finger to the orb, sending pink dust everywhere.

"Woah!" Katie grinned, and the boy looked at her approvingly, his face and glasses covered in the powder.

"I know, right!" He squealed, taking off his glasses and holding them in his hand, and brushing off his lab coat. "Chemical metal embrittlement!"

Matt strided in the room, his hands in his pockets. "Not bad, Lance."

"Lance?" Katie snorted, holding back a laugh, as Lance stuck his tongue out at her, "Sounds like a medieval virgin tried to name a cat." Lance scowled at her teasingly. "At least my name isn't as bad as Shiro."

Katie raises her eyebrow, "Who's Shiro?"as she's completely oblivious to the mutant crawling up behind her.

"This guy, right here." Shiro grinned under his costume, as Katie whipped her head around and shrieked, and Shiro sighed.

"Uh-uh, don't be alarmed," He said, wiggling out of his suit, making it look like he was emerging from the mutant's mouth, "It's just a suit. This is not my real face and body." He sunk back into the suit, his arm sticking out of the mouth of it.

Katie shook his hand, a grin on his face, "The name's Shiro." He slid his arm back into the suit, and into the mutant's fake arm, showing it off.

"School mascot by day, and by night," He twisted the sign around his body, and landed in an ungodly pose, his head poking out of the suit, "I'm also school mascot."

Katie looked him up and down. "So what's your major?" She asked him, as he headed towards a torn, faded purple chair and slouched down.

"Oh, no, no, no, I'm not a student. But I am a MAJOR science enthusiast." He said, making himself comfortable, smirking at Katie, "Oh, and can I call you Pidge?"

"Pidge?" Katie stared at him in disbelief.

"Yeah, I saw a pigeon in the park today, so you're officially Pidge from now on."

Katie groaned as Matt placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. "Now now, Shiro. I have to get this little girl home," He chided, ruffling Katie's hair playfully.

"Oh well, Keith, can you make me that invisible sandwich please?" Shiro hollered, and was answered with a loud groan of nopeness. "Well, that's one question answered. See ya, Pidge."

Katie waved goodbye to everyone, including Angsty Keith, as she walked out of the door, to the front of the school, with Matt tailing behind her, saddling the bike, as he noticed Katie didn't hop on.

"Katie, what are you waiting for? Let's go!" Matt propped his elbows on the handlebars, exhausted from school.

Katie looked at him with wide eyes. "I have to go here." She pushed her glasses up on her nose and ran her fingers through her hair. "If I don't go to this nerd school, i'll go crazy. How do I get in?"

Matt smirked and gestured to the bike. "I'll tell you on the way there. Mom would kill me if I left you out here."

Katie saddled the bike, and shoved the helmet onto the top of her head as Matt sped off, away from the University of her dreams.
