why am I here(Asher angst)

Asher was sitting on the couch in the common area while the rest of the team was on a mission. The princess and Coran were giving them support. Feeling restless, Asher walked down a long hallway to the armory. He saw the empty cases of Lance's, Shiro's, Keith's, Hunk's, and Pidge's armor, and then he looked at two more armor cases – a pink one and an orange one. Asher assumed that the pink one belonged to Allura and the orange one to Coran. He wondered why he was the only one without armor. This thought ran through his head over and over again. Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. Coran had snuck up on him. "Asher, my boy, are you okay?" Coran asked. Asher was lying to him when he said he was okay. Coran smiled and patted Asher's back. "That's good," he said as he walked Asher out of the room. Asher was sluggish for a while, and Coran suggested he should sleep.

Later, Asher was wandering around the castle, running his fingers across the walls. He walked into a room Allura called the paladin room and saw pictures of old and new paladins. He felt something well up in his chest to his throat and started to cry. He was the only one without a purpose. Although he was the medic, they had healing pods for that. He felt the darkness grabbing at him, dragging his thoughts down. He curled up and whimpered to himself.

Coran entered the paladin room and saw Asher curled up, his body shaking. "Asher, my boy?" Coran said, but Asher flinched. Coran recognized that Asher was having a depression episode or panic attack, the same condition Lance had experienced before. "Asher, my boy, can you breathe for me?" Coran asked. Asher shook his head no. Coran sat next to him and asked if he wanted him to get someone else. Asher looked panicked and shook his head more violently. "Okay, okay, I won't," Coran said. "Asher, can you count to four?" Asher nodded and started counting. He continued counting up his breathing and started to even out, letting out small whines. "C-Coran, why am I here?" Asher asked. "I mean, why am I on this ship? I'm useless!" Coran hugged him tightly and said, "My boy, you're not useless. You're an amazing person who helps others to remember their families and what they're fighting for, just like Lance. You two are the heart of the team, keeping up everybody's spirit. You are useful." Asher hugged Coran back, and after a couple of minutes, he fell asleep. Coran held him close, feeling for Asher like he did for his younger self. "Don't worry, Asher. We got you," Coran whispered. He decided to talk to the others about what happened and find a way to help Asher.
