Takuto - Only You
Takuto's eyes narrowed as he stopped scrolling through my phone.
We were having a pleasant little date. We had finished watching a movie and were now enjoying a tea break in a newly opened cafe near our station.
Or at least, I was enjoying everything, until now.
"What is this?" Takuto tapped on the text notification from my father that read the address that me and my arranged wedding partner where to meet at tomorrow.
Ah....
It had completely left my mind. I was going to tell him today, and the chance to do so hadn't come up.
"Takuto I-"
The text read the location and date, along with my mom's message reading 'get em' girl!'. Before that message though, stood another that read 'we set up a meeting with a potential marriage candidate for you! Your age now is the season of marriage in your lifetime.'
Takuto fell silent and looked ticked off.
"Look, before you say anything... listen to me okay?" I placed my hand on his firmly and take a deep breath before explaining.
"My parents set up one of their friend's son, but only because they think I'm still single... they just sent me that text. I haven't even talked to them in a while..."
"....Hm....." Takuto eyes me suspiciously. "So you haven't told them that we're going out? That you have a boyfriend?" He looks hurt and his voice wavers a little, throwing a blow of guilt towards me. My chest hurts a bit but I carry on with my explanation.
"I-" I should have told them. " I can't just call them to say that I've got a boyfriend. I mean- they don't really care as long as marriage is involved."
"The chance to tell them never really came up..."
"....." He averts his gaze and then speaks up again. "Then why am I barely finding out about this? The arranged meeting...? You were planning on going right?!" He slowly raised his voice at the end.
"N-No! I was going to tell you today in fact." I blush trying to muster the courage to spat the next sentence.
"I...wanted to ask you if you were okay with meeting my parents this weekend..." I mumbled.
"W-wha-" I turn to look at Takuto who turned red at my request.
"N-no? You don't want to?"
"....." Takuto's pink cheeks and nervous look seemed to tell me that he was more nervous than upset now, which for me, was a relief.
"I do! I'll go....for you...." He says bitterly yet shyly.
Oh god. He's so cute.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Takuto had majorly opened up and softened a little more since we met. He's still a tsundere though.
"Your parents are calling! Hurry! Answer!" Takuto starts freaking out as he throws my phone at me frantically.
"Okay! Geez...- hello?" I answer hesitantly. "Papa? Can... We meet? I...have someone I want to introduce to you guys..."
--------------
"What!?" Takuto yelled in frustration. "What do you mean, you still have to go to the meeting?!"
"Papa says that he wants me to go and tell him about our situation personally, and also to apologize..." I looked away in guilt. It was true, my parents had gone through a lot of trouble to arrange that, and the guy I was supposed to meet almost never has time off, so he had to ask for special permission.
It sounded like a lot of trouble so the least I could do was that.
"Fine! Just go!" Takuto shoved me down onto the bed and pinned my arms with his strong grip. "But, I have to remind you...that you're mine..."
~~~~~~~~~~~
I walk down the crowded streets in Tokyo towards the destination that seemed oh so far, so much father than it should.
Under the hot,hot weather and the painfully humid heat that attacked me in my blazer and scarf made me want to cry.
But I had no other choice, Takuto, the night before, decided that giving me hickeys was a great idea.
I mean- I...don't particularly mind them but...In visible areas! In the summer! Yes I mind...
I sighed as I walked into the fancy, high class looking cafe that had super strong A/C which I wasn't too ungrateful for.
I sat on one of the luxurious booths and sigh out loud.
Because of so many reasons.
"Uh...excuse me-"
I turned abruptly at the voice that spoke behind me. "Yes?"
"Ah-" We both say at the same time.
He stares at me for a moment before we both break out in tension easing laughter.
"You must be-"
"That's right. I'm Hiroshi Nakamoto."
"I see! It's nice to meet you." I stand and bow with a friendly expression.
"It's nice to be able to meet you in person." He smiles gently. "Pardon me saying this but..."
He blushes as he finishes his embarrassing statement. "...you are much prettier in person..."
I blushed at his comment and quickly waved my hand in denial. "Ah, no not at all, but...thank you." I laugh nervously.
He looked down at the glass of water that one of the waitresses had brought earlier, in silence. With that an awkward minute passed for a moment. I took the opportunity to inspect him, in order to determine which tone I had to use to turn all this down.
His face was full of upbeat youth, you could see in his face that he was satisfied with his job and current lifestyle. A glow of motivation shone in his, momentarily, uneasy eyes. For a moment I thought "what if I was still single? Would I have given this guy a shot?" I was a black fox and keeping that from my partner wasn't going to be easy. And if he knew, It would've been difficult to make him understand our purpose.
Takuto really is the one for me.
Appearance wise, Nakamoto was pretty handsome, i'll give him that.
"This is pretty old fashioned huh?" I inquired breaking the ice build up forming over time.
He chuckled nervously and put one hand behind his head. "I agree!"
"Listen, I-"
"What are your hobbies-?"
"Ah-"
"Sorry you go first." He ushered me to continue.
"To answer your question, I enjoy reading historical books, fiction or nonfiction, of all sorts of cultures..."
"Ah I do as well!"
Somehow the conversation carried itself to samurai and Japanese historical novels. We got carried away talking about books we've read and sorts. After an hour of trying to find the right moment to tell him, we had already opened up to each other a bit more.
"Are you more of a western styled food person? Or do you prefer Japanese food?"
"Do you have any pets?"
The more I let time linger in the harder it was getting to find a gap between questions. He was really friendly, and I didn't want to interrupt him, because we were in fact, having a really nice conversation, and maybe even a fun time, but the thought of maybe, bringing his hopes up killed any joy I had at the moment.
Out of the corner of my eye I see Takuto standing outside of the cafe window looking down and Nakamoto and I with menacing eyes. I panicked.
'End this.' Takuto mouthed looking pretty pissed.
I look away and down at my hands nervously. Sensing my uneasiness and panic, probably triggered something in Nakamoto.
He gazes at me and begins speaking very slowly and softly, as if our current friendship was a thin layer of glass fragile enough to shatter with the raise of his voice.
"You say... That these things, arranged marriages are old fashioned but..."
I look up from my hands and look into his eyes earnestly ready to tell him at any moment the truth of my situation and intentions.
"But...I was able to meet you and have this lovely conversation with you. My time has never felt better spent." His eyes soften considerably.
"I-I..." I stuttered. "I came today to politely decline this marriage opportunity." I pause and dart my eyes to the window where Takuto stood. "I intended to tell you from the very beginning that...well...I..."
"....have a boyfriend?" He finishes for me.
Caught by surprise, my eyes widen. "How did you-?"
"You looked guilty almost the whole time we spoke, and you looked like you wanted to say something in general. Plus, your glowing with happiness!" He laughs warmly.
"I-I'm sorry!" I bow in my seat clumsily.
"It's alright, but, I really am glad that I met you." He smiles brightly. "You really are a charming girl."
-----------------
"I really thought he was going to steal you away or something...you guys were too friendly..." Takkun pouted.
We were on the bullet train on our way to meet my parents, Takuto was nervous, but he wore it away by talking about the little marriage thingy I had a day ago to disperse his fears.
"Whatever, you know that I would never leave you. You're too cute! I love only you!" I hug him in his seat.
"C-cute?" He blushed.
"Yes..." I giggle thinking that there was no way that I could ever find anyone better than Takuto.
"Cute..." Takuto mutters under his breath.
"Huh?"
Before I know it, Takuto's soft lips are over mine.
My cheeks redden a bit at the sudden public boldness that Takuto was displaying. He was usually really reserved and was all about no public affection.
"W-what was that for?!" I ask him.
"I'm not cute! And also....even if that guy stole you, I would've stolen you back..."
Takuto kisses me again, and so we rode off, looking forward to what my parents had to say about the love of my life, Takuto Hirukawa.
