Third Person's POV

Ash and his Pokémon were smack-dab in the middle of an intensive special training regimen in preparation for his rematch with Roark, the Oreburgh Gym leader, when suddenly, the restored Ancient Pokémon Aerodactyl mounted a frenzied assault on Oreburgh City, sending its citizens into a panic! But Dawn and her Buneary and Piplup sprang into action and were able to quell the mayhem With Volo, Mawile and Meloetta backing her up, while providing Ash with some valuable clues on formulating the battle strategy he was seeking. Now, knowing he was sure to face Roark's newly evolved Rampardos in his upcoming battle, will Ash emerge victorious and capture his first Sinnoh region badge?

At the Oreburgh Gym Battlefield, Ash had walked to the challenger box, as he was facing Roark. "Well, well! I'd say that spring in your step betrays some newfound confidence! Of course, after all that hard training you have every right to it. Good for you!" Roark said, getting interested.

"Thanks! And today, I'm leaving here with that badge for sure!" Ash declares. 

"Pika, Pika!" Pikachu agrees.

"The Gym battle between Ash, the challenger and Roark the Gym Leader will now begin! Each side will have the use of three Pokémon, and the battle will be over if either side's Pokémon are unable to battle! In addition, only the challenger will allow any substitution!" Ian announced as Brock, Dawn, Gary, and Volo were watching from the stands along with Togekiss, Mawile, Croagunk, Piplup, Umbreon, Meloetta, Petilil, Buneary, and Sudowoodo.

Dawn was wearing a pink cheerleader outfit along with Piplup and Buneary.

Brock was thinking about before looking at Dawn. "Excuse me, Dawn." Brock calls 

Dawn looked over at Brock smiling. "What, Brock?" she asks.

"I hope you don't mind me asking but... why are you dressed up like that?" Brock asked, afraid to ask. 

"Oh this? Well after all the special training with Ash, I just had to cheer him on all the way!" Dawn explains, smiling before turning to her Pokémon "So! You two ready to give it all you've got?" She asks.

"Piplup!/Buneary!" Both Pokémon cried ready to cheer

"Go, Ash! Number one! Battle one and get it done! Time to get this battle on and do it right and have some fun!!" Dawn chanted while her Pokémon cheer along.

"Hey, thanks, Dawn! After all that, how could I not win this battle?" Ash chuckled.

Mawile looks at Dawn and her Pokémon with awe before turning to Volo with stars in its eyes "huh?" Volo questions before realizing and giggles and pulls out a pair of Blue Pompoms and give them to the Deceiver Pokémon "Here Mawile so you can cheer along" he said.

Mawile smiles and hugs Volo before taking the Pompoms and runs off to join Dawn and her Pokémon as Croagunk looks at Mawile who jumps and lands next to Piplup.

"Glad to have you joining us, Mawile; maybe someday we get Volo to join us when Ash battles" Dawn said while Brock and Gary imagine Volo in a cheerleading outfit causing their faces to turn red.

"Go, Onix!" Roark calls out as the Rock Snake Pokémon appeared to the field, giving out a prideful roar. 

"So Onix is up first, huh?" Ash asks then looked at Pikachu." You ready to go, Pikachu?" He asked. 

"Pika!" Pikachu nods as he had gone to the battlefield, getting ready to attack.

"Then, let the battle begin!" Ian announces.

Pikachu! Use Quick Attack, now!" Ash called. Pikachu used the quick move, charging towards Onix.

"Come on! Normal Type attacks aren't going to do much damage at all! Onix, let's show them by using Slam!" Roark calls.

Onix began to slam its tail onto Pikachu "I'm not using it to cause damage!" Ash laughs.

"Huh!?" Roark gasps in question. 

"Pikachu, dodge then climb onto Onix, now!" Ash calls.

Pikachu dodges the physical Attack and begins to climb onto Onix.

Volo smirks "Let's go, Ash and Pikachu!" he cheers.

"Togekiss!" Togekiss cheers causing Ash and Pikachu to look hyped up.

"Excellent! He used Quick Attack to build up speed, which helped Pikachu climb! Onix, use Screech! Let's go" Roark ordered. Onix used its Screech attack towards Pikachu, sending loud waves toward the Electric Type.

Pikachu grit its teeth and holds on, grabbing onto Onix's fin on the head! "Hold on tight!" Ash instructs.

"Onix, shake it off!" Roark called. Onix began to move fast, almost causing Pikachu to fall off 

"What's Pikachu gonna do?" Dawn asks, a bit concerned as Buneary was worried.

"Pikachu just hang on!" Volo shouts as Togekiss watches with worry while Meloetta, Mawile and Petilil cheered for the Electric type

"Pikachu! Hang in there! Use Iron Tail and give it your best shot!" Ash calls. 

Pikachu makes the right moment, slamming Onix with his glowing tail.

Onix roars in pain, trying to shake it off "Right on target!" Dawn squeals with delight.

"And a strong hit, too!" Brock states.

Pikachu had landed back to his Trainer, getting ready to attack. "Way to go, great Pikachu!" Ash praised. 

"Pika!" Pikachu responds to its trainer.

Roark was impressed by the improvement, too "Pikachu's speed and power are much stronger than last time! I'm impressed! It looks like your special training is paid off!" Roark smirked. "See how you like this! Quick Onix, use Double Edge!" Roark called.

Onix glows with silver light, using the powerful Attack 

"That's powerful!" Dawn gasps.

"Okay! Go, Pikachu!" Ash called. Pikachu leapt in the air and charged towards Onix. Brock Gary and Dawn gasped of what Ash is planning to do Volo gets worried of how Ash is gonna do.

"Now spin!" Ash ordered and at the right timing, Pikachu spun out of Onix's Double Edge Attack! Both Roark and Onix gasped in surprise that their Attack was dodged easily! "Wow, that really look great!" Ash exclaims.

Dawn cheers along with her Pokémon and Mawile.

"Whoa! What a dodge!" Brock gasped.

"There's nothing like when a new move works!" Dawn exclaims.

"You can say that again" Gary agrees with the female.

"Brilliant! Pikachu's spinning creates a lot of wind pressure and that acts just like a dodging cushion! And the stronger and faster we are, the more effect their moves is!" Roark smirked, amazed with the new dodging technique.

"Now, let's wrap this up with an Iron Tail, Pikachu!" Ash called. Pikachu finished spinning and prepared to finish Onix off with another Iron Tail.

"Dodge it!" Roark called. Onix rapidly got out of Pikachu's way, startling Ash.

"Quick Onix, use Slam!" Roark called.

Onix once again attack with Slam, succeeding this time, Pikachu was smashed to the rock and was buried.

"Pikachu, no!" Ash gasped. There was no answer for the buried Electric Type.

"But how did Onix move so fast!?" Dawn gasps.

"I don't know, but Onix is lot faster than the last time he was before!" Brock exclaims currently in a surprise.

"Obviously Roark didn't let himself get rusty so of course he must have been training them as hard as we did" Volo tells Dawn.

"Ash, in between battles, I don't sit around and read comic books! I been training with Onix, just as hard as ever!" Roark explained. "You may have dodge Double Edge but there's a lot more to deal with than that in this Gym."

Ash gritted his teeth with irritation! "Onix, use Stealth Rock!" Roark called. Onix created spear-like rocks again.

"Why would he use Stealth Rock now?" Dawn asks.

"Remember, Stealth Rock is a move that causes damage to each new Pokémon that comes out as a sub!" Gary explains 

"By using it now, Roark is really ratcheting up pressure on Ash!" Brock adds.

As Stealth Rock was closing in, Ash made another order! "Now Pikachu, use Thunderbolt!" Ash called as Pikachu caused a major blow, destroying Stealth Rock and shocking Onix.

"Oh no!" Roark gasps out of panic. 

Onix was being shocked by the Electric Type move 'How Onix receives damage from an electric type attack is still a mystery to me...it's anime I guess' Volo thinks with a shrug.

"Pikachu! Finish this up with Iron Tail!" Ash yelled. Pikachu weakly charged towards Onix, preparing to make a finishing blow!

"Now, Onix! Use Screech!" Roark calls. 

Onix had let out a Screech attack but Pikachu managed to leap in the air and did a somersault as he used Iron Tail on Onix, hard. 

"Ah! Onix!" Roark shouts out of shock.

Pikachu landed, panting heavily as Onix got knocked out. "Onix is unable to battle! Pikachu wins!" Ian announced.

"Alright! Pikachu, way to go!" Ash praised as Pikachu gave a weak respond.

"Awesome! Pikachu came through in a big way!" Dawn said, smiling. 

"That pressure must have push them over to the top!" Brock said.

Buneary had become even more affectionate towards Pikachu and Togekiss noticed before it became slightly annoyed but when he looked back at Pikachu, he couldn't help but smile.

Roark returned Onix back to its Pokéball, thanking it for its hard work in the battle. "That was quite the impressive move you just made. It blew back all debris and pulverize Onix' Stealth Rock at the same time! And I don't need to tell you how difficult it is to cause damage on Onix anything at all!" Roark complimented.

"Thanks for the nice words!" Ash exclaimed.

Roark took out another Pokéball. "But that's behind us now. Geodude, let's go!" Roark called. Geodude prepared for battle

"That Geodude sure something. Pikachu, you take a break!" Ash called. Pikachu felt relieved to take a rest from battle as he ran over to Ash!

"What? Why those two got the momentum?" Dawn asks.

Volo then looks at Dawn "Well Pikachu had used a lot of strength to battle Onix. Plus if he battle more, he'll get tired out. So that's why he was sent back." he explains. 

"That's exactly right, Volo!" Brock said, smiling.

"I get it!" Dawn exclaimed.

Ash took out a Pokéball and threw it toward the air! "Alright, Aipom! I choose you!" Ash called, releasing the Normal Type.

Aipom landed on the ground, glaring at Geodude for a chance to win

-meanwhile-

But as the battle continues, outside, Team Rocket was quietly sneaking around the Gym before whispering their motto.

"Listen is that a quiet voice I hear?"

"It may not be loud but it sure is clear."

"And da time for poaching Pokémon is near."

"Jessie."

"And it's James."

"Meowth my claim to fame."

"Quietly now we take our place."

"Team Rocket!"

"IN YOUR FACE!" They shouted the last part.

Before they panicked and quickly shush themselves before looking around. "There! that safe time! Now let's put it to good use!" Jessie said.

James quickly lifted Meowth and held him to the door. "It's all yours!" He whispered.

"Roger!" Meowth said as he let out one fingernail before picking it. "Shake it, don't break it!" He said, quietly before the door was unlocked.

"You sure nailed that one!" Jessie said, happily.

"My built in lock would take work every time no matter how dumb your jokes are!" Meowth said.

"In we go!" James announced quietly as he put Meowth down and opening the door. "Anybody home?" They all whispered and when they see, there are no one here. That gives them the perfect chance to sneak in.

"Ah~ the warm glow of an empty home!" Jessie exclaims. "While they're having a battle! We're having a ball!" Meowth adds.

"The longer those twerps toiled on their Gym battle field, the better for our stealing scheme!" Jessie said, evilly.

"Pikachu will be too pooped to prevent us from Poke-pilfering!" James adds.

"Yeah, and don't forget that the Gym is like a Pokémon candy store, just like for robbing!" Meowth exclaims, with an evil grin.

"Alright, gang! Let's do our Aipom cheer!" Dawn calls.

"Piplup!/Buneary!" Buneary and Piplup agreed 

"Aipom, Aipom, go! Show them all what you know!" Dawn cheers as her Pokémon cheer along.

Mawile cheers along and notices Croagunk walking away which makes Mawile curious and follows Croagunk since everyone else was too busy watching the Battle to notice them.

"Aipom, Swift, now!" Ash commands.

Aipom unleashed the Swift Attack towards Geodude! "Geodude! Rollout, let's go!" Roark shouts, having Geodude dodging Swift and began rolling to Aipom for an attack.

"Double Team!" Ash yells. 

Aipom made clones of itself, confusing Geodude, and causing the Attack to miss.

"Aipom, Focus Punch!" Ash shouts.

"Block it!" Roark called. The Focus Punch was blocked by the Rock Type, startling both Ash and Aipom.

"It was able to block it?!" Gary gasps out of shock.

"Seismic Toss, Geodude!" Roark ordered. Geodude grabbed Aipom and went flying toward the air, and dropped down, smashing Aipom to the ground

"No, Aipom!" Ash called.

"Again, Rollout! Go!" Roark called as Geodude quickly made another attempt to hit Aipom with a Rollout attack. 

"Dodge!" Ash calls.

Aipom used his tail to dodge, and to make a spin dodge technique, like with Pikachu! "Argh! Aipom too!?" Roark snaps out of questioning.

Geodude grew startled that his Attack missed again.

"Aipom used that move as Pikachu!" Dawn exclaimed.

 "Excellent! Great speed and timing!" Brock exclaimed.

"Alright, Aipom! Focus Punch!" Ash called.

Aipom struck Geodude hard with the one hit Focus Punch! Geodude fainted with the impact.

"What happened!?" Roark gasps in shock.

"Geodude cannot battle! Aipom is the winner!" Ian announces

"Alright, Aipom! Wait to go!" Ash complimented. Aipom landed on the ground, panting with the exhaustion. 

"That's two wins in a row!" Dawn squeals with delight.

Volo nods "that may be true, but... Both Pikachu and Aipom have got to be feeling exhausted by now after all that intense battling. While it's true, Ash is up to 2 to 0 right now, but don't forget Roark's last Pokémon." Brock explained.

"Oh right, Roark has Rampardos..." Gary said, with a frown.

"Ash, most impressive! The way you've taken some serious disadvantage and turned them around is worthy of known great strategy, indeed! But remember, you haven't won until you defeated my last Pokémon as well!" Roark smirked.

"I know! And I'm ready, too!" Ash exclaimed. 

"Well time will tell the tale! Go Rampardos!" Roark calls, sending out his final evolved Pokémon.

"Rampard!" Rampardos roared. 

"Here we go. Time to get busy!" Ash replied, glaring at Roark's final Pokémon, which was Rampardos. "Aipom, let's keep going!" Ash shouts and Aipom let out a weak response. "Swift go!"

Aipom unleased a Normal type attack at Rampardos. But Roark and Rampardos just stood there, not doing anything which caused the others to get confused. "Why won't Rampardos move?" Dawn asked, confused

Rampardos just stood there, taking the hit causing an explosion. Ash had gasped at that with Aipom startled also. When the smoke was cleared, Rampardos just stood there, unscratched.

"Not a single scratch!" Gary gasped.

"It's like nothing happened at all!" Dawn exclaims.

"I knew it would take much damage, but I didn't expect to see no scratches!" Brock exclaims.

Volo frowns in silence.

"Oh man! How am I going to get past Rampardos' defense?" Ash asked to himself, sweating from the intense battle. 

"I think now it's our turn! Rampardos, use Headbutt!" Roark calls.

"Aipom, dodge it!" Ash calls out. 

But when Aipom was about to dodge, Rampardos suddenly got close to Aipom, shocking both Ash and Aipom as she got bashed and ended up getting knocked out.

"Aipom cannot battle! Rampardos wins!" Ian announces. 

"That was some excellent battling, Rampardos!" Roark praised having to let Rampardos grunt as a response.

"How fast can you get?" Dawn gasps. 

"Rampardos is even stronger than last time when it was a Cranidos..." Volo adds, looking intimidated by the Head Butt Pokémon.

"Yeah, I didn't expect to see Rampardos this strong..." Brock said.

Ash had Aipom back into her Pokeball, smiling a bit. "Impressive don't you think?" Roark asked as Ash looked at him. "Real power sight to behold!" Ash growls a bit as he grits his teeth, not wanted to lose like this. "I suggest that you put that special training or yours to good use now!" Roark suggests.

"Wow! You were right when you said that Ash is up by two when it wasn't over till it's over!" Dawn exclaimed.

"It's like he's giving Ash a test!" Gary stated.

Dawn looks at Gary confused "A test?" she questions.

"This is exactly what any good Gym Leader does" Brock then said "Take the challenger to the edge! With just one move... Roark has turned Ash's advantage completely around! Additional pressure Ash is going to have to deal with! Which of course is a vital part of Roark's job!" he explains

"Kay! Will you get in there, Pikachu?" Ash asks.

Pikachu nodded and faced Rampardos for another battle.

Meanwhile, with Team Rocket, they were walking in the hallway, looking for something. "Now how in the world, do you hide in the battlefield?!" Jessie asked, annoyed.

"There's enough square footage to hide a stripped mall." James added. "Take the energy from your mouth and put it in your feet and will find the battlefield in no time!" Meowth exclaims.

But Team Rocket stopped to see Brock's Croagunk with Mawile behind him, all of them gave them blank stares.

"C-Croagunk?!" Team Rocket gasped in surprise.

"T-There's also the other twerp's Mawile!" James added, a bit afraid.

Mawile glares at Team Rocket as its intimidate ability kicks in.

"Oh, um what a surprise!" Team Rocket greeted, a bit afraid.

"You're the sight for sore eyes!" Jessie exclaims, nervously.

"Seeing those faces is such a tree, my how time flies!" James added.

"W-We're not here to steal any Pokémon, I wouldn't tell you no lies!" Meowth exclaims.

Croagunk just croaked while Mawile glares at them and that even freaked out Team Rocket even more.

Just then, Croagunk had walked towards them who was freaked out and backed away quickly. Mawile had went over them, making a chomping sound with its steel jaw on its head startling Team Rocket knowing what Croagunk should do.

-back with our Heroes-

"Pikachu, Thunderbolt!" Ash called and Pikachu attacked with a fierce Electric Type Attack! 

"Dodge, and then use Zen Headbutt!" Roark called.

Rampardos used his speed to dodge and aim the Attack towards Pikachu 

"Argh! Dodge and get out of the way!" Ash called. 

Pikachu leapt in the air and attempted to spin dodge Rampardos' Zen Headbutt but took the hit!

Ash and Volo gasped with this as they witnessed Pikachu's back smoking as Pikachu slid towards near a rock 

"Rampardos won't let Pikachu dodge!" Dawn exclaims.

"Okay then, try this out! Pikachu, use Quick Attack!" Ash called.

"Intercept with Headbutt!" Roark calls.

Both Pikachu and Rampardos charged at each other to make physical contact. "Jump, Pikachu!" Ash yelled.

Pikachu dodged Headbutt by jumping onto Rampardos and doing a somersault again! Roark grew startled with the dodge! "Alright, Pikachu!" Volo cheered, happily.

"Togekiss!" the Jubilee Pokémon also cheered.

"So Pikachu rotates head over heels instead of spinning like a top and that works too!" Brock commented.

"Amazing! It's awesome of what you can accomplish when you knuckled down and worked really hard!" Dawn stated.

"Wow, Ash! Using a new move and then mix of all this?! But it won't be enough! Throw Pikachu off, using your tail!" Roark called.

Pikachu was thrown into the air by Rampardos' tail! Pikachu started to topple, losing balance in the air! "Hang in there! Now, use Iron Tail!" Ash yelled.

Pikachu regained balance in the air, by attacking with the Steel Type move! "Quick, Zen Headbutt!" Roark shouted.

Rampardos charged at Pikachu with the physical Psychic Type move, giving pressure to Pikachu! Pikachu nearly lost his focus before slamming into Rampardos with an Iron Tail!

Electricity began to course through Rampardos' body! "Yes! Static is working!" Dawn cried. 

"Did you forget about Mold Breaker?" Volo questions with a frown as he noticed that Static disappeared, with Rampardos roaring at Pikachu.

"Rampardos, finish it up!" Roark called. Pikachu was knocked out after bring hit by Zen Headbutt, and getting recoils from the boulder behind it, having him to be knocked out!

"Pikachu can't battle! Rampardos is the winner!" Ian announced.

"Pikachu!" Ash called. He ran to his partner's side and picked him up. "Are you okay?!" He asked.

Pikachu looked at Ash sadly, sorry for not winning the battle for him. "Hey, you were great! You deserve a nice long rest!" Ash assured.

"Wow, what a way to lose. And after all learning intense work of ways to dodge!" Dawn sighed.

 "Buneary..." Buneary agreed, sadly.

"Now Turtwig's the only one left." Brock stated. "Ash's success totally depends on the way he uses Turtwig's Grass type attacks." He explained.

Volo can only frown for a moment before having a big smile. "Even if he has one Pokémon left, Ash will surely how to beat Rampardos! There's nothing standing in the way of him getting that badge!" He said.

Dawn, Gary and Brock smile and agrees on that.

-with Croagunk, Mawile and Team Rocket-

Meanwhile, with Croagunk, he had made Team Rocket go outside to where they started from with Alice and Yoru supporting him.

"Come clean, Croagunk!" James said, desperately. 

"If something's on your mind!" Meowth added. 

"Small, it would may be! Say it!" Jessie exclaims till she realized something and came over to Croagunk. "You want to ask us to be in our glorious team, now weren't cha?" She asked, grinning. "You maybe strange! But's that's no reason to be shy!" Jessie exclaims before startling quickly moving away when Mawile scared Jessie off with its Crunch attack.

"Mawile!" Mawile glares at Jessie

Croagunk had held up his paw and then stabbed Jessie with Poison Jab, knocking her out.

James and Meowth had become scared before running off, carrying Jessie. "Sorry to run! But there's a hospital nearby?!" James shouts.

"And one pays quite enough, thank you!" Meowth exclaims.

"Have...a... nice... day!" Jessie stammered

Croagunk, watched them leave before turning to see Mawile doing a cheer dance to Croagunk causing the Toxic Mouth Pokémon to have its cheeks flaring up in pink before the two of them head back to the battlefield.

-with our heroes-

"Okay, Turtwig! I choose you!" Ash called, sending out the Grass Type Pokémon! Turtwig glared at Rampardos, remembering their last battle.

"Turtwig!" Turtwig cried.

"Well, you're a spirited one, now aren't you? Alright, it all goes down to this!" Roark smirked.

"Turtwig, get going!" Ash shouted as Turtwig charged towards Rampardos.

"Rampardos, Headbutt!" Roark called and Rampardos also charged at Turtwig, aiming to land the Attack.

"Turtwig! Get up and over!" Ash shouted, having Turtwig leapt in the air and to rolled on Rampardos' back.

"I think you're forgetting about Rampardos' tail! Use it on Turtwig!" Roark called as Rampardos gave a grunt nod and prepared to launch Turtwig in the air like he did with Pikachu.

But Ash didn't even fall for the second trick that Roark had did earlier. "We didn't forget a thing! Now Turtwig, bite Rampardos' tail!" He shouts as Turtwig stopped rolling and bit onto the tail causing Rampardos grunted in pain with Roark startled with the trick.

"Yeah! Give it a toss!" Ash called. Turtwig use his strength to throw Rampardos to the dirt! The Headbutt Pokémon landed with a thud. 

"Oh no!" Roark gasped.

"Turtwig actually threw Rampardos!" Dawn exclaimed. "Small things come in big packages!" Brock explained.

Volo's eyes sparkle for a second. "Amazing..." he said, his breath was almost taken away from this intense battle that was going on like he remembers in the anime.

"Razor Leaf, let's go!" Ash called.

"Use Flamethrower!" Roark called.

Rampardos let out a stream of fire, causing the leaves to be burned, having it to be useless like last time.

"No good! We're too far away for Razor Leaf to work!" Ash growled, sweating.

"How about this? Use Head Smash, Rampardos, now!" Roark yelled as Rampardos glowed with a blue aura and began to charge after Turtwig!

"That's so strong!" Dawn gasped. 

"And that's an understatement." Brock added

"Turtwig! Don't move till I say!" Ash called. Turtwig nodded, waiting for Ash's signal! Rampardos came closer and closer with Turtwig waiting for Ash's call.

"Now, quick! Use Razor Leaf!" Ash called and Turtwig fired another Razor Leaf Attack! But unfortunately for them, Rampardos ducked to dodge, and smashed Turtwig towards a rock! "Turtwig, no!" Ash yelled.

"Pika pi!" Pikachu called out for Turtwig.

Turtwig was skidded toward the ground with painful grunts! "You okay?!" Ash shouts, and Turtwig let out a weak response.

"Brock, is there any hope?" Dawn asked.

"We still don't know any after shock from Rampardos' Head Smash. So either side could win it." Brock explained.

Even though Volo knows the outcome of this battle he can't help but bit his lower lip out of nervousness as Togekiss, Meloetta and Petilil cheer for Turtwig to win, not wanting him to give up, yet.

"Turtwig, use Synthesis!" Ash ordered and Turtwig began to gain health energy from the sun as quickly as he can

But, Rampardos immediately finished charging up from the shock! "Flamethrower!" Roark called. Rampardos fired the Fire Type move, causing the Synthesis to stop and to force Turtwig to dodge the attack

"Way to go!" Ash complimented.

However, Turtwig began to pant from the damage he had received from the Head Smash Attack, even with some health it had from Synthesis.

'All I can do is trying to use Razor Leaf from far away, but how are we going to do this with Rampardos' awesome speed and that flamethrower?!...That's it!' Ash thought, having an idea. "Turtwig! Use Razor Leaf while you run!" Ash calls.

Volo smiles "Here comes the Plot twist!" he states making everyone look at Volo confused.

Turtwig running while launching the Razor Leaf Attack! Roark just smirked with this strategy. "Turtwig is too far away for that! Now Rampardos, Flamethrower!" Roark yelled.

The Headbutt Pokémon fired another Flamethrower Attack, burning all the Razor Leaf that was being sent at it! "Keep that Razor Leaf going!" Ash calls.

"You're really think, you can defeat us like that? Alright Rampardos, go!" Roark called.

"Is not that he think, he knows" Volo states as his Pokémon cheer for the Grass Type Pokémon.

Flamethrower and Razor Leaf collided more as the others watched. "That's it!" Ash exclaims which caused Roark grew confused to see what was going on.

But then finally, he gets what Ash was going for! "Of course, Ash has just been camouflaging Turtwig, this whole time! Let's switch to Zen Headbutt, Rampardos, now!" Roark called and Rampardos immediately stopped using Flamethrower and leapt toward the air with Zen Headbutt. 

"Stop Razor Leaf, then revolve and jump!" Ash called.

Turtwig made a run and a jump! "Still trying to get behind us, huh? Rampardos, you jump!" Roark called.

Rampardos jumped, but that is, until they made the mistake of doing so

Turtwig tricked Rampardos and Roark as it spins underneath Rampardos, creating a surprise attack "Great, Turtwig! Now, use Razor Leaf, super charge!" Ash called and Turtwig fired Razor Leaf at Rampardos, sending it toward the air.

"Ah! Rampardos!" Roark gasps 

Rampardos smashed toward the ground, and fainted

"Rampardos cannot battle! Turtwig is the winner! The victory of this match goes to Ash of Pallet Town!" Ian announces.

"Turtwig, we did it!" Ash called, running to his Grass Type Pokémon. Turtwig ran over to Ash and leapt toward his stomach, looking up at him! Pikachu came to share the victory, too. "You were awesome!" Ash praised, making Turtwig let out a happy cry.

Dawn and her two Pokémon cheered "Alright! Ash did it! He really won it!" Dawn cheered.

"Those move really paid off" Gary commented.

"Umbreon!" the Moonlight Pokémon cried in agreement with Gary

"Amazing how quickly Turtwig is comfortable with them! Right, Croagunk?" Brock asked, not noticing that Croagunk and Mawile had just came back from the unknown walk.

Though, Croagunk only gave a croak, staring at Ash and his two Pokémon and Mawile doing a cheer dance with Dawn's Pokémon.

Later, it was evening as everyone were outside of the Gym. "The way you adapted quickly to changing additions was just amazing!" Roark said, impressed. "So, here's proof of your Oreburgh Gym, victory! The Coal Badge!" Roark said, presenting it to Ash.

"Wow." Ash gasped as he takes the badge. "Thank you so much, Roark!" He said then held it up high. "Alright! We just won the Coal Badge!" He announced as his Pokémon cheered.

"Way to go Ash!" Volo hugs the Kantonian "that's one down seven to go!" he states.

"Togekiss!" Togekiss cries congratulating the battling Pokémon who respond sounding grateful to the Jubilee Pokémon.

Getting that first Gym Badge is always a challenge, but to our hero in the Sinnoh region it's now reality However, requiring seven additional badges to compete in the Sinnoh League, you can be sure there's plenty of excitement yet to come, so stay tuned to make sure you don't miss one thrill-packed second!
