"granny yang." i muttered, grabbing her wrinkly and fragile hands. they were cold, which made me really sad. there was no one that could stay with her 24/7 to make sure she was well taken care of. i wish i could do that.
joohyuk left the room, and was waiting outside, after i had told him i wanted to talk to her by myself.
"please wake up soon." i said. "you're all that i have left, you know? without you granny yang, who's going to take care of me? who am i going to be able to talk to, when i need someone?"
of course she didn't respond. it made me sad that she didn't respond, as she always did when i called out to her. granny yang's vision isn't sharp, which is why her hearing is the sharpest to make up for that.
i let out a shaky sigh, and tucked granny yang's hands under the blanket, to make sure she was warm.
if she doesn't wake up soon, i don't know what i'd do. i can only hold onto so much hope.
"you can hear me right? please wake up."

the walk back was really quiet. but it wasn't an awkward quiet, more of a peaceful and comfortable one.
when we arrived into the dorm building, i sighed, not really wanting to go inside.
"should we go to someplace cool?" joohyuk asked. the dude didn't even bother hearing my answer, and grabbed my hand, dragging me off somewhere.
suddenly, we were walking up a lot of stairs, until we reached the very top of the dorm building. it looked like a dorm was arranged up here, but nobody lived in it. a bunk bed and closet sat next to each other.
"i go up here when i need to think. it's nice." he climbed up to the top bunk, and held out his hand to pull me up too.
"yah, what if we get caught up here??"
"we won't if we're quiet." he whispered, looking at the city below us. "look." he pointed to the roads and brightly lit buildings.
it was pretty. seoul was pretty. i enjoyed busy places, places that always have something going on around in them. it made things more fun.
"granny yang told me a lot of things about you." joohyuk suddenly said. "i know why you work so much."
i turned to him. "she told you?? gosh, that old lady..."
"that's why, i wanted to help you more in the first place. you're lucky to have someone like me." he boasted.
"as if." i said. "but you've done a lot for me, i suppose."
"i know. but do you really have to take on all that work by yourself?"
"if i don't, who will?"
"where is your dad?" he asked.
i stayed quiet, still staring into the distance.
"i shouldn't ask, right?" he muttered.
"no. there's not much to it. it's your typical divorce, and then he moved to america. i never saw him again, nor do i really want to." i said simply, even though that clearly wasn't the complete story.
joohyuk looked at me sadly, which frankly, i disliked. i hate it when people look at me pitifully.
"don't give me that look." i chuckled.
"ah. i guess you're not the type that likes that." he said and nodded. "noted."
"for some reason, i feel like i've known you forever." i said.
joohyuk gave me a full on stupid smirk. "are you sure it's because you've stalked me for long enough that you're starting to think that way?"
i shot him a glare. "that's my line, you fool."
"and the other one was my line."
"point proven."
