Ch-18 Myrtle Warren

Yumira was now summoning objects around the room. Apart from shape-shifting, Kumihos had other magical abilities of their own and every Kumiho had different abilities as Mr Zackleman said. Yumira was basically like a Sneakoscope (an object which detects danger and other things) in animal form, just like Skylar. And now she could summon things or make them float around or do simple magic like that. Skylar was looking out at the window. Eileen was supposed to come today so she could see Yumira and they could go to Diagon Alley together. She had already shown Yumira to Nagini yesterday and they seemed to like each other.

Then she saw a bright blue light in the yard. Soon the light vanished and revealed Eileen in a pale purple oversized jumper, a black leather jacket and blue jeans. It was clear she was not used to wearing like a Muggle yet. She was holding an old dusty boot in one hand and a small bag in the other. Skylar got out of her bedroom while swinging her cloak on herself with Yumira at her heels.

"Wow! So that's Yumira?! Cute!" Eileen squealed as they entered the living room. She hurried towards Yumira and, thinking it was a threat, Yumira shape-shifted her tails into a shape like sharp knives. Her eyes were red and she was staring at Eileen deadly. She was never this wild before. Eileen stumbled and fell, terrified.

 "Yumira, stop. Stop! "

Yumira looked at Skylar. She shape-shifted back to normal. Her eyes turned red whenever she shape-shifted but after that, it turns into the usual galaxy-like purple. She jumped onto Skylar and rested on Skylar's shoulder.

"Why did you buy a monster?" Eileen said.

"She's not! She thought it was a threat! Mr Zackleman, the guy I bought her from, warned me about this- Yumira, calm down!- and you need to get close to her first."

Eileen was still petrified; everyone in the room was. Skylar ignored and said, "Should I get the Floo Powder?"

Without waiting for the answer, Skylar turned around and went to the cupboard. Uncle John and Aunt Bertha was probably having second thoughts about allowing Skylar to buy Yumira. Looking back, Skylar realized that the only reason why she was the only one to be calm when Yumira was like that. Hadn't Skylar been like that when Professor Dumbledore came to tell Skylar that she was a witch? Yes, their first impression was terrible but they started to like each other. Dumbledore must've understood and Dumbledore became one of Skylar's favorite teacher. Transfiguration also became one of Skylar's best subjects. (although it was hard to tell because she was the best, after Riddle, in every subject)

When she came back, everyone was talking. Eileen to Marley, discussing which house Marley might be in when she arrives at Hogwarts, and Aunt Bertha to Uncle John about god-knows-what.

"Me, first then," said Skylar handing the rest of the Floo Powder to Aunt Bertha. She placed Yumira in a cage and did as usual. She landed on the floor of the Leaky Cauldron. She blinked. The pub was more crowded than the first time she came. Eileen came out and stood right beside Skylar, followed by the rest. Eileen had brought money in her small beaded bag. Uncle John got some out from Gringotts after they entered Diagon Alley. Then they all scattered. Eileen and Skylar went to the apothecary and bought potions ingredients. A lot of people threw curious looks at Yumira, who was still in her cage (mainly because of Eileen but also because Skylar did not want Yumira to turn as wild as she was a few minutes ago). Skylar and Eileen exited the apothecary to head to Flourish and Blotts. There were many narrow rows in the store; large but not as large as the Hogwarts Library.

They were getting their new DADA books when Eileen gave Skylar a nudge in her ribs.

 "What?" Skylar demanded.

"That girl..." Eileen whispered back. She was pointing at a wailing girl whose face was buried in her face. She was charging towards them.

"Hey, hey!" Skylar shouted as the girl almost collapsed with them.

"S-S-Sorry! I-I'm so s-sorry!" the girl squealed. Her face had tear tracks. She was wearing round glasses which were foggy probably for the amount of tears she cried. She had many acne on her face. She was quite short.

 "What's wrong?" Eileen asked sympathetically.

 "A-a g-g-girl c-called me something l-like M-Mudblood and made f-fun of my g-g-glasses" the girl cried.

Eileen's face was sympathetic and angry at the same time. Skylar patted the girl on the back and said, "It's alright. People also tease me like that all the time. And that is the foulest thing  you can say to a Muggle-born."

The girl looked up still crying.

 "S-So that's what it i-is?" she stuttered "s-she did look n-nasty when s-she s-said that. I-I j-just wanted to be f-friends..."

"We can be friends. You don't want to go around those kind of people," Eileen said brightly "What's your name?"

 "Myrtle Elizabeth Warren..."

"I'm Eileen Prince and this is Skylar Tenebriser."

"Nice names... people call me all sorts of things... Moaning Myrtle! Moping Myrtle! Spotty Myrtle!"

Thus she started to wail again. After Skylar and Eileen cheered her up, she continued.

"I am Muggle-born... I came here with Professor Merrythought... she is explaining all sorts of things about the wizarding world to my mum and dad... I was so surprised and so pleased. I told my best friend. My only friend... but she just called me a freak and utter fantasist and left me... she was my only friend!" she emphasized, apparently not sure if she said it before.

"As we said, forget about her. You have us!" Eileen told her.

 "OK thanks..."

Myrtle was a completely different person now; she was cheery and happy. They all finished their shopping at Flourish and Blotts and went to their different ways. Myrtle went to Ollivander's to get her wand and Skylar and Eileen went to Florean Fortescue's Ice-cream Parlour to meet up with the rest of Skylar's family. There they found Marley talking to a strange girl. The girl had white skin, elbow-length crispy light brown hair and pale blue eyes that gave a misty look. Her wand was in her left ear along with the radish-like earring. She was wearing it on one side only as though she lost the other one. There was also what looked like very colorful sunglasses sitting on top of her hair. After all these strange features she looked quite nice even pleasant.

"Hey Skylar and Eileen! Meet Cerilla. She's one year above you two," Marley said.

 "Hello, I'm Cerilla Raywind. You two are second-years, I expect? I'm a Ravenclaw third-year."

"Eileen Prince, and this is Skylar Tenebriser."

"Skylar? Of course I know you. You have no idea how much Professor Merrythought talks about you!" Cerilla said. Professor Merrythought was not only their DADA teacher; she was also the Head of Ravenclaw House. "And so does Professor Slughorn. Well, you two are in his house. He says you two are one of the best students he taught. Eileen because you are nice to everyone and Skylar, well you know why."

"Yeah, Eileen is a nice girl. I consider myself lucky," Skylar said.

"Hey, is that a Kumiho?" Cerilla asked, pointing at the sleeping figure of Yumira.

"Yeah, how'd you know?" Marley asked.

"Simple. The nine tails. Also my gran is a wandmaker who lived in South Korea half her life. My wand is made by her. Applewood and Kumiho tail hair, twelve and a half inches," Cerilla described as she took her wand and waved it around.

She bade them goodbyes and left. An hour later, back at Number Ten, Vatten Road, Marley was having an animated conversation with Uncle John and Aunt Bertha about what house she would be in when she goes to Hogwarts and what house Skylar was in. Upstairs in Skylar's bedroom, Skylar was reading To Become The Greatest while sitting on her bed. She was reading the chapter called How To Inactivate The Trace for Under-Agers. She was not going to dare use it outside school for one disastrous attempt, she would be expelled from the school she loved, where she did not need to fear that her father might track her down and kidnap her... for he believed Skylar was the reason why his wife was out of this world... out of his life... out of Skylar's...

Skylar felt like crying but she did not. Mere words could not express how much sadness she was feeling. But she toughened herself.  Now she was rarely weepy, not depressed by anything silly and went on with life. A long time ago Skylar had been in deep thought: what was the use of being weepy and crying all over the place? Nothing. I will toughen myself up. Be a girl mom would be proud of! Move on with life, Skylar, you are not weak unless you make yourself like that! Now she is the Skylar we know.
