Ch-12 The First Match

November came along with the cold. The students complained about going to the dungeons for Potions because it was underground and cold. Skylar, on the other hand, dreaded Herbology with Professor Herbert Beery. The greenhouses were warmer than the dungeons, but the walk to them with the Ravenclaws were not exactly something to look forward to. These days the only thing people talk about was the first match of the Quidditch season: Gryffindor vs Slytherin. People were especially who would commentary since the last commentator, Quiron Killick, graduated last year. Only Skylar and Eileen knew because they were there when Professor Dumbledore told the next commentator that she will be commentating.

At last, the Quidditch season had started. Under the soft sun rays of a Saturday afternoon, students and teachers were heading to the Quidditch pitch. The crowd was getting seated into the platforms, which were raised so that every thing that was going on. Some kids had binoculars with them because even though the seats were higher than the fifty-feet tall hoops, it was still hard to see what was going on sometimes. One side of the crowd was green and silver,  while the other was red and gold. The players were in the dressing rooms, getting into their Quidditch robes and going through last minute tactics. Madam Goshawk, the referee, went out to the field as the teams did too.

"Captains, shake hands", said Madam Goshawk. The Slytherin Captain, Hugh Jorkins and the Gryffindor Captain, Bob Jackson, shook hands. Jackson then took his hand out of Jorkins' as if it burned or something. Madam Hooch blew her whistle and both the teams kicked hard on the ground and flew into the air.

"They're off! This match really started. But before that, I think Jorkins might've crushed Jackson's hand. I don't think it'll help him keep possession of the Quaffle too long. Good luck to all of you anyway", said a clear voice from the commentator's podium.

Many people turned towards it. Many Slytherins gasped and their mouths fell open. There in the commentator's podium, wearing glowing green earrings with hissing snakes and holding the megaphone was...

"Yup, people! It's Skylar Mellina Tenebriser, here!"

"Tenebriser! You haven't won the Quidditch World Cup or anything!!!"

Skylar was closely watched by Professor Galatea Merrythought, the stern-faced teacher who taught DADA (Defense Against the Dark Arts). Professor  Dumbledore was the Deputy Headmaster but he was a busy man and everything so Professor Merrythought took the duty.

"OK, OK, well after all that, I noticed that Gryffindor scored. So 10-0 to Gryff. I'm too lazy to-"

"We don't care if you are lazy or not! Get on with the commentary!"

"OK! Slytherin in possession. Gryff player Thunderwell coming to get it-BOOM-that should've hurt, pretty sure it came from the Slyth Beater Macnair. Was gonna hit Thunderwell but hit Spinter of Slyth instead! Gryff in possession, Thunderwell passes to Bagnold and... Gryffindor score."

Cheering came from the Gryffindor and the silver snakes on the earring hissed at them. How Skylar got those earrings without telling her aunt and uncle, no one except herself knew. She had got it from a Ravenclaw fourth-year student who got it from her friend. When her friend bought it for her, it was blue with an eagle on it but after she got it, it was like this so at one point Skylar just snatched it away from the corridors.

"Yes, now... Wait! Madam Goshawk! Ref! Did you not see the Slyth Chaser Fontaine hit the Gryff Seeker Ignare?! That was a total foul, man! Even though I support Slytherin, I needa be unbiased unfortunately-"

"Of course you need to be unbiased! Don't complain Tenebriser!"

But Ignare was not that hurt, so the match started once again.

"70-10 to Gryffindor", Skylar grunted a while later "The Gryffindor team is unusually good. The Keeper and the Chaser and the strategies and all of 'em. Their brooms are also-"

"GET ON WITH THE MATCH AND STOP PRAISING THE GRYFFINDOR QUIDDITCH TEAM!!!!"

"OK, fine, Professor. Plus, I wasn't praising to be honest. I was just trying to be unbias-"

"Tenebriser! I'm warning you! Do you want a sample of Jelly-Legs Curse? Get on with the commentary! That's your job!!"

"OK and don't think anyone noticed but something went past Gryff captain Jackson, it's gonna help y'all win you know. Slytherin desperately needs that. They are wayyyyyyy behind. So have you spotted it, Lambeck? Hope you have 'cause I wanna announce the winning of Slytherin not Gryffindor."

Lambeck seemed to have spotted the Snitch, he dashed towards Jackson. The Gryffindor Seeker, Ignare, realised what was going on but he was too late. Lambeck was a few feet away from the Snitch. Ignare tried to say something but Lambeck ignored him. Then silence fell, Lambeck had landed, held up his hand and opened his mouth but the voice issued from the commentator's podium.

"SLYTHERIN SEEKER GORENUS LAMBECK CATCHES SNITCH!!!! SLYTHERIN WINS! 160-70!!!!!!"

The silver snakes slithered around the green spheres of the earrings and hissed loudly, which might have terrified Professor Merrythought a little bit. Everyone in Slytherin were giving cheers of delight. There were grunts from the Gryffindors unheard by anyone. Eileen was coming towards Skylar as she was getting down the podium and handing the megaphone to Professor Merrythought.

 "You were amazing!", Eileen exclaimed.

"Don't lie to me just because I'm your friend."

"Well, you did get Professor Merrythought heated. But everyone'll think you were trying to get a laugh. I heard the old commentator was like that, too. Constantly getting Professor Merrythought heated and every thing. But everyone liked him because he was funny."

"Will they think the same way with the Slytherin M-word?"

 "..."

The M-word was Mudblood. Saying Mudblood in the Wizarding World was like saying 'b!tch' in the Muggle World. So naturally, Eileen did not like it and neither did other people except most of the Slytherins.

When they entered the common room, there was a party going on. Lambeck came to Skylar and said, "Thanks, Tenebriser. Been telling everyone that we wouldn't win if it wasn't for you."

Other people also came and told Skylar things like,

"Great commentary! Except that you apparently 'praised' the Gryffindor team."

"Expecting more laugh from you, Tenebriser."

 "Thanks for helping us win."

Nobody even said the 'M' of 'Mudblood'. Eileen was enjoying herself but Skylar preferred a quiet environment.

She went to the dorm and laid on her bed. Something told her she forgot something. As she was putting the earrings back in her trunk, she tried to remember what it was. But no luck. In the end she just gave up and went to sleep. Little did she know, the thing she forgot about was right at the bottom of her trunk.
