July 7th of one summer, nothing out of the blue. Except that a chaos was going on in one of the houses.

 "We'll make it the best birthday you ever had!"

 'It's the same every year...what am I supposed to expect? friends?'

 A girl with short, completely black hair was just sulking in a corner. Every year on her cousin's birthdays she had to watch her celebrating with her friends. While her, on the other hand, didn't have any friends. Her name was Skylar Mellina Tenebriser. The most unusual thing about her was that her eyes emitted a faint, reddish glow, although it was pretty much never noticed by anyone.

 "Skylar!!! Stop sulking and come and see the decorations!!"

 "OK, fine"

 She went in the living room and saw the usual decorations, pink and purple colored triangles from the ceiling, a poster with a bunny saying 'Happy Birthday!'. But at least this year it was a chocolate cake not a fruit cake.

 "Thanks for the chocolate cake, Aunt Bertha"

 "You're welcome, Skylar. Now open a present." 

 Skylar quickly opened it. She got a yellow hair clip. It had a smiling grey kitten on it.

 "A gift for you from me!", said her cousin, Marley Sarah Jeffery, her red-headed, cute, freckle-faced cousin.

 "Thanks", Skylar said forcing a smile, "I'll go out in the yard for a while okay?"

 Skylar left the room and went out the house. She lied down on the freshly mowed grass. Whenever Skylar wanted to be all alone, she came here.

 While lying down, she saw an attractive, light brown-haired girl passing by. The girl gave Skylar a terrified look and quickly ran out of the neighborhood. Skylar closed her eyes and thought of what happened in the last few weeks...

  A picture Skylar hated turning black and white after she touched it, a fox from the forest nearby advancing towards one of her classmates after he called Skylar a 'bitch without a mom' and the time when a pipe hit that brown-hair when she bullied Skylar with a couple of more girls. All of which Skylar did not understand. She never told any of her family members about these things. 

 Then she remembered an incident, the reason why she came here the first place, why her dad was in jail until he was freed 2 months ago, and why her mother was... dead...

 Back in the present, a man with very long auburn hair and beard was standing right beside Skylar. Skylar did not notice the man since she was still closing her eyes. Not knowing this was the man who will turn her life upside down.
