Chapter One

One year later...

New York City buzzed as normal. Pedestrians raced up and down the streets, waving their hands in the air, looking for friends and family that had gotten lost in the crowd. Cars were stuck in terrible traffic, they were lined up and down the streets. There was practically no chance of them ever moving fast. Tall building with glass windows were all around the city. In the distance, the Empire State Building gleamed in the light of the fading sun. The glare off of it was terrible, but it was still a sight to behold, as always. In one of the cars was a teenage boy. He stared out the window in boredom, looking at the dull buildings as they slowly passed by them. The sun reflected off his blond hair that slightly fell over his eyes. His hair was cut short on the sides, but he had let it grow long in the front, bringing it over his forehead. His pristine blue eyes glowed brightly in the sunlight.

"Mason, are you listening to me?" his younger sister complained, poking him in the shoulder in the process.

"Yes, yes fine. What is it?" he asked, not really paying attention.

"Look at that cat!" she pointed to something on the sidewalk. He didn't look. His sister had been obsessed with cats ever since they had gone to that animal shelter and gotten their dog. It was probably just a stray again.

"It looks really weird!" she told him, "It's almost got no fur!"

"Mhm." he plugged his earbuds in, tuning her out. The last thing he heard her say was,

"I'll name him... hmm... Voldemort! Because he has no hair!"

For some reason that struck unease through him. Why did that bother him so much? Oh well, a cat couldn't be the Dark Lord, could it?

Finally, they arrived at their house. Mason walked to his room and fell onto his bed. He texted his girlfriend, Harper.

Hey - M

A couple seconds later she texted back.

Hey. Whatcha doing? - H

Nothing really, what are you doing? - M

Same as you - H

Alright. Want to come over? - M

Sure, see you in 10 - H

His mouth dropped open in astonishment. She was coming over. In ten minutes. What had he been thinking?! He ran out of his room.

"Mom! Harpers coming over. She'll be here in ten minutes."

His mother winked at him. "Alright. Good for you!"

He felt his face heat up. "Wha- Mom!" he ran out of the room, just to see his sister walk in carrying, Voldemort? Why had she brought the cat? How had she brought the cat?

"I found him outside!" she said happily. Their dog bounded over, sniffing the hairless cat's fur. He growled and backed away, baring is teeth. Mason didn't care. He ran into his room and began to hastily clean it. Sooner than he would have liked, the doorbell rang. He raced to the front door and flung it open, leaning against the doorframe, trying to act attractive.

"Hey." he said and looked her in the eyes. She raised her hand to cover her mouth. Laughter glittered in her soft brown eyes that any boy could get lost in.

"Hey." she responded, amusement clear in her voice. She brushed her mousy brown hair behind her ear.

"Come on in." he told her, gesturing into his house, inviting her to step in. She walked inside. He showed her to his room. When he passed the kitchen, his mother looked at him and mouthed, 'You two are SO cute together!' He looked away quickly. He didn't need that right now. They talked for a while, but all to soon she had to go home.

It was a week later and time to go to school. He walked outside to where his sister always waited for him, only to see her bent down onto the ground. Scratches covered her arms, blood trickling down them. Voldemort was facing her, his fur on end and he was hissing.

Mason ran towards his sister, shooing away Voldemort.

"Go! Leave!" he yelled at it. Then the cat morphed into a human. No, wait. Not a human. Voldemort himself. Mason blinked to see if he was hallucinating. He wasn't.

"You see child, I have risen again. And you are powerless to stop me."

Mason watched Voldemort vanish with a sweep of his cloak. He was wrong. Mason would stop him. He had better watch out, because Mason was coming for him.
