T E N.
"A graduation party? Really? What's it been like the 20th time you have done this?"
Violet's comment floated all the way up to Emmett who had climbed one of the larger trees lining the Cullens driveway. His pale fingers quickly fastened the twinkling Christmas lights to the trees, setting up the rest of them. Violet was on the ground, watching as her imprint rapidly intertwined the lights with the tree branches and then jumped to the next awaiting tree.
"You're doing an awful lot of complaining for someone who's only job was to look pretty." Emmett grunted down to her, keeping his eyes trained rather then on Vi. If he even gave her a glance he wouldn't be able to finish his job and he would have a vengeful Alice on his ass.
"I don't want to do anything with these heels and shorts!" She shot right back, pulling downwards on the bright red playsuit Alice had forced the Uley into before she had pranced off to graduate. Violet didn't particularly dislike the outfit, at least it wasn't a dress. She still however didn't like the black boot heels Alice had forced into, however it could have been worse.
"You can keep me from doing my job here," Emmett pointed out, attempting to keep it to himself although it shot out quickly.
Vi laughed, pushing a curled wave of her dark brown hair back. "Is that so polar bear?"
"Like you have no idea what you do to me," he scoffed with an eye roll, continuing his work without breaking conversation. "My eyes practically want to roll straight out of my body so they can be staring at you forever."
Vi again let out a giggle loud enough to sound through the forest like bells, a wonderful chorus that softly ran through Emmett's ears. He adored absolutely every noise she made.
"Okay Casanova," Vi finally answered back, ignoring the deep rose color surrounding her cheeks. "What time is everyone showing back up?"
"Well Carlisle and Esme took them out to dinner for appearances and Alice said she would be getting some last minute items so I'd say we have another two hours before they show up. She specifically asked for this stuff to be done before then though." Emmett answered, swinging to yet another tree, not making a tear in his dark jeans or grey sweatshirt.
"And why did she specifically ask for it to be done before then?" VI scoffed, watching as he secured the last of the lights. "Did she forget we are supernatural creatures with alarming speed?"
"No," Emmett jumped down from the trees, landing right next to Violet, patting his slight dirty palms together to get rid of the dirt. "She just remembered we are mates who are also two very hot individuals."
"Oh." Violets mouth formed an "O" as she realized just what he meant. Her face quickly looking away out of embarrassment. She would be lying to herself and anyone else if she said having sex with Emmett hadn't crossed her mind in the past. He was extremely hot and in her opinion this eras Hercules but she didn't know where they were in their relationship. Yes, they were mates and imprints which made the attraction much tougher to control but somehow they had kept it contained and taken things slow. Of course it wasn't any ordinary relationship where they went on countless dates before realizing they were in love, Violet somehow already knew she was head over heels for the vampire and possibly in love with him but she had no clue how he felt. Still, it wasn't like he didn't show her how much he revolved around her.
He didn't pressure her into anything, like this moment. The second the air between them was filled with two much silence Emmett turned to her with his boyish grin, pink lips grinning playfully. "So, since you've practically complained my ear off would you like me to carry you home?"
Vi wanted to kiss him for being understanding, but instead she pursed her lips and placed one hand on her hip. "I can run home, I'm not that delicate."
"You refused to help me put those lights up darling. What do you call that?" Emmett shot back, quirking an eyebrow.
"Being lazy." She rolled her eyes, "I could have done all of that and not even gotten a scratch on these heels."
"Okay, lets not get ahead of ourselves." He rolled his golden eyes.
Vi scoffed, lifting a perfectly trimmed brow, "wanna bet polar bear?"
"Vi, lets not ruin your pretty outfit." Emmett attempted to placate when he noticed the serious look in her eyes.
Ignoring him she stuck her hand out and brought his thick arm towards her so his watch was visible. "Alright, we have an hour and forty five minutes left. I want to see you try and catch me Em, you win and i'll do our Risky Business routine at the party tonight for your entertainment, I win and you'll do whatever I want without refusal. Got it?"
"Violet this isn't a good idea..." Emmett groaned, watching as his girlfriend began walking into the dark forest.
"Count down from twenty. I promise you this is my best idea!" Vi yelled back, already preparing herself to run at full speed through the dense Washington vegetation. She smirked because Emmett might have been bigger but this was her arena... and he had no idea just how good she was at these games.
"Twenty... nineteen.. eighteen..."
<><><><>
It had been all of thirty and Emmett had still not been able to catch the petite half wolf. He had to admit his girlfriend was rather good at this game, she jumped from tree to tree, landing on some of the weakest of branches without missing a step. If it weren't for her heartbeat, the most attuned of sounds to his ear he'd swear she wasn't near.
Her smell was everywhere around the trees, it was like she was right behind him every time he turned to run in a different direction. He was going to lose his goddamn mind and the bet because Violet was just that good.
Vi on the other hand was having the time of her life jumping from tree to tree just like Emmett had done minutes ago. She hadn't had so much fun in years, it felt like the forest was her playground and nothing was off limits.
Her newly acquired skills were strong and limitless but this had been the first time she had actually pushed herself to use them for fun rather then survival. Her feet barely grazed over the highest of the tree branches, not leaving a single mud stain on her expensive shoes. Violet had never felt more liberated, more secure, and above all else she felt grounded like this was were she belonged. It was hilarious to think in the middle of a damn forest, playing a game of catch, with the most competitive man ever, did she realize just how happy she was. It took a heartbreak and possibly under the worst circumstance but she found the place she wanted to stand in eternity.
Violet landed amongst the tallest of trees, grasping onto the thick bark of the trunk, an infectious smile across her lips as she stared over the twinkling lights of Forks. She was suppose to run, keep the game going but she stared at the darkened skies and glittering city. Sucking in a huge breath she stopped running, realizing that running away from Emmett and from happiness was going to get her no where.
So she leaned against the trunk, purposely scratching her feet against the bark so Emmett could find her. Her back pressed against the cool tree, keeping her eyes on the mesmerizing view just as her polar bear caught up.
"Awe what's wrong darling? Tire out already?" Emmett questioned as he balanced on the sturdy branch, a smirk plastered on his face. His eyes trailed over every inch of her perfect face, taking in the beautiful goddess that had set a spark in his otherwise dark life.
Violets eyes trailed right back to him, her red stained lips hypnotizing Emmett. "I think I want to stop running Emmett. I want to stop running from you... from my life and most definitely from fate."
"Vi? What are you talking about?" Emmett questioned.
"I mean it. Since Jake all I've done is run from anything that felt solid. I ran from home, from school, from responsibilities, hell I ran from certain death, and I've ran from you long enough. I want to stop running from you, from this... from us. I chose you and I want to promise you that decision." She took a step closer to him. "I don't just want to be with you until eventually we have to part and you move away... I want to be with you wherever you go because you make me feel grounded when everything else is up in the air, because you keep up with my antics and never judge my decisions... because I love you and I want to spend the rest of my life with you."
Emmett didn't know what to say, he'd known since the first moment he'd seen her angered face, the very face that was ready to murder him, that he would want to spend lifetimes with her. So he proceeded to take her small face between his large palms, caressing the soft skin there and kissing her with all the emotions he could muster. In between those kisses, he repeated the phrase, "I love you," over and over until Violet needed to pull up for air and he moved to her neck.
"I'm ready. I want this." She spoke softly, breaking the silence and pulling him back to her eye level. Patting their foreheads together so his sweet breath fanned her face and his topaz eyes pierced into her thoughts.
"You're sure? After this there's no going back." Emmett reminded her, digging his fingers into her hips and sending chills through her warm body.
Violet nodded, eyes firm. She knew the consequences of mating, she knew it was the final seal between imprints, and vampire mates, no doubt the feeling would be amplified now.
Violet smiled, pecking his lips and wrapping her arms tighter around his neck as she jumped so her legs caught his waist. "I've never been more sure of anything in my life."
Emmett didn't waste another moment, trailing his lips to the soft flesh against her shoulder.

"I still don't see why you had to change, you looked beautiful in that outfit." Alice huffed, standing in front of Violet and Emmett. "What the hell did you do?"
Violet, who had been avoiding the petite vampire since she'd arrived back to the Cullen household turned a bright red when Emmett smirked and looked down to her. Alice narrowed her eyes, tilting her head slightly as she began noticing what was happening.
"Violet... what happened to your outfit?" Alice once again rephrased her question.
Vi, who had trailed her eyes away from either vampire out of pure embarrassment noticed the tray of drinks being carried by Jasper. "JELL-O SHOTS!! Jasper!"
Before anyone could stop her, and Alice could grab her, Vi was dashing across the room and grabbing small cups out of Jaspers arms.
Emmett belted out a laugh, leaning against the railing while Alice flipped her gaze between Violet and him. "What the hell happened between you two?"
Emmett's eyes stayed on Vi who was smiling and getting along with Bella's friends as she chugged down vodka filled drinks. He smirked, noticing how she avoided his gaze but her cheeks were a bright red.

"I've never seen you so friendly." Bella's voice interrupted Violets drinking as she nursed a red cup full of liquor.
"It's a party and there's alcohol, who isn't friendly." Violet shot back, moving her thick hair behind her shoulders. "By the way happy graduation."
"Thanks." Bella nodded. "When did you graduate?"
"I graduated early, got my shit together and my credits about a year ago." Violet explained, looking towards the pale girl who stood next to her. She didn't necessarily know if this qualified them as friends, rather acquaintances under the same circumstances. They were being polite to one another and she supposed having conversations was the right way to go with it.
"Nice," Bella awkwardly answered. "So you uh... want to meet some of my friends. I could introduce you?"
Vi sucked in a cold breath of air, not really looking for anything until her noise caught an alarmingly similar smell. She eyed the front door as the footsteps grew closer and immediately looked towards the Swan girl. "Actually I think you're going to have your hands full... Jakes here. Good luck with that, I'm gonna get as far away before we enter a grudge match."
Vi quickly left Bella's side, grabbing another cup filled with alcohol from a tray as she passed by. She weaves through the crowd, not really knowing just where she was headed but anywhere was better then near Jake. Parties weren't really her thing, the music was always too loud and no one ever knew when to just go home. She actually wanted to go home and sleep at Sam's place but knew it would be a colossal fail since Emmett's pillows, which smelled entirely like him, was the only place she could get a decent amount of sleep.
She took another sip of her drink as she walked through the crowd of dancers when a hand wrapped around her waist. He pulled her tight again this waist, pressing his mouth to her neck. Vi laughed, giggling as his breath tickled her neck. "Easy there Dracula."
Emmett let out a bear like laugh, sending vibrations all throughout his chest and to Vi. The girl noticing how most of the graduates stared at them oddly, she supposed it was because no one had ever seen Emmett with anyone, Alice having told her how little interest he had ever showed any girls at their old school.
She smirked at some of the girls, turning around in his arms so it appeared they were dancing in the crowd even though they were far from it.
"Where were you going?" His deep voice questions her, pulling his fingers feeling into the exposed skin at her waist.
"Away from Jake," she indicates towards the front door where Bella is clearly having an argument with him.
"Oh, want me to get rid of him?" Emmett questions, raising a brow.
She shook her head, "no it's fine. Besides if he tries anything it'll give me an excuse to actually kick his ass.
Emmett rolled his eyes at her, swaying softly with his mate as the music boomed in their ears. "Must violence always be involved?"
"Of course." Vi cocked her head, "you should know this by now. I love to rough house."
Em smirked, remembering what had occurred an hour ago. "I know that very well darling."
"Don't be a perv polar bear," she scolded him although it was lighthearted as she pulled him into a kiss. Vi's eyes shutting softly as she melted into the kiss although they snapped right open when she managed to see Alice at the staircase looking rather oddly. She'd seen the vampire have visions before but this one looked worse then any other.
Vi pulled away from Emmett's embrace in the same moment Bella noticed, both girls making their way through the crowd as they left boys confused. Emmett quickly caught on and rushed over.
"Alice? What's wrong?" Bella was the first to question.
Vi stepping closer and setting a hand on the petite psychics shoulders. "What was it? What happened?"
"The decision's been made." Alice finally replied, her eyes slightly widened at the vision.
"What's going on?" Jake interrupted the small crowd of teenagers.
"You're not going to Seattle?" Bella understood then.
"No... They're coming here."

Every supernatural creature was seated in Carisle Cullens office discussing Alice's vision. Vi was nervous beyond belief as she patted her hand against her thigh, tapping her foot while the adrenaline coursed through her veins. She could feel Embry, Quil's, and even Jacob gazes secured on her. She could tell they were judging her for sitting atop the biggest vampire, but she gave less of a shit about anything running through their minds.
Violet admitted that hoards of vampires coming to destroy and rip her to shreds scared her shitless. She didn't want any of that to happen, and certainly not if her old family and her new family would be caught in the crossfire. By the way Emmett's jaw tensed and his muscles flexed she knew he wasn't happy about it and ready to fight, by the looks of it everyone was. A sigh escaped her lips while they awaited Esme's return from the party.
Her hand was suddenly halted as Emmett wrapped his large palm around her tinier one and rubbed his thumb comfortingly against the soft skin of her exposed thigh. His lips kissed the side of her head as she sucked in a huge breath and her heart rate came down.
The door shut and Esme took her seat next to Carlisle as everyone began to listen intently.
"They'll be here in four days. This could turn into a blood bath." Alice began to explain, letting everyone in.
"Who's behind it?" Jake inquired.
"I didn't see anyone I recognize." Alice answered, her eyes glazing over as she recalled the future. "Maybe one..."
Edward, the mind reading vampire, spoke up. "I know his face. He's local, Riley Biers. He didn't start this. Whoever did is staying out of the action. They must be playing with the blind spots in your visions. Either way, the army is coming... and there aren't enough of us to protect the town."
Jake spoke up, his blunt voice asking questions. "Hold up. What damn army?"
"Newborns. Our kind." Emmett stepped in, explaining to the young werewolf.
"What are they after?" Jake asked.
"They were passing around Bella and Violet scent. A red blouse and a black bag." Alice explained.
"They're after you two? What the hell does this mean?" Jakes voice quivered when he realized, eyes flickering between both girls who had stayed quiet the entire discussion.
"It means an ugly fight, with lives lost." Edward answered him, keeping a steady gaze on the vampire in love with his girlfriend.
"And you knew didn't you?" Jacob turned toward Vi, giving her his undivided attention. His eyes fixated on the girl, she knew Sam was listening and it was quite possible it was his own words.
"What about the army? Yes. I did know but about them coming here no." Violet answered after a brief pause, not wanting to lie. "We were going to handle it."
"And you weren't going to tell any of us?" Jacob stood, crossing his arms at his friend.
"Why? Why do you care?" Vi shot right back, sensing Emmett's gentle pull back. She hadn't even noticed her body had moved. "You're not involved with what happens to me."
Jake stayed quiet for a moment, processing the brunettes words and turning away from her. "Alright... We're in."
"What? No." Vi and Bella both shot up in the same moment, the girls filled with concern.
"Don't be stupid. You'll get yourselves killed, noway." Vi added at the end, Bella nodding in agreement.
"I wasn't asking for permission." Jake shot back to the girl harshly, his eyes narrowing. "And neither was Sam."
"I don't give a rats ass what you both say. You're not doing this, you're not putting pups on the line for this, not for me. I do this alone." Vi took a step closer and ordered back.
"And you're what? More qualified to do this then any of us? Don't get your panties in a bunch princess... we're doing this because of you so be honored." Jake sassed her right back.
"You son of a..." Vi was about to growl and possibly claw his eyes with her manicured nails when Emmett jumped up and wrapped his large arm around her.
"Alright that's enough," he cut the fight off, pulling Violet behind him and sitting her down as she pouted. Then he quickly turned back around to face Jake with narrowed eyes. "The only reason I'm not letting her kick your ass is because you are helping to keep her safe but if you ever talk to her like that again I'm gonna get you back for that bite you gave me the other night wolf boy."
"Edward, stop them." Bella turned right back, protesting the wolves joining.
"If it means more protection for you." Edward shook his head at Bella, turning right back to the werewolf. "Jacob. Do you believe Sam will agree to... an understanding?"
"As long as we get to kill some vampires." Jacobs answer was cold and withdrawn, something that made Vi growl.
"Jasper?" Emmett questioned the only vampire who has hard experience.
Jasper nodded once he thought through it. "They'll give us the numbers. And the newborns won't know they are coming. That'll give us an edge. We'll need to coordinate."
"Carlisle, they'll gonna get hurt." Bella pleaded.
Carlisle took her notion under consideration, looking at the trio of wolves. "We'll all need some training. Fighting newborns requires knowledge that Jasper has. You're welcome to join us."
"Alright. Name the time and place." Jacob nodded in acceptance.
"Jake... You don't know what you're getting yourself in to." Bella attempted to make the boy understand while Vi shook with anger. She didn't want her brother out there... she didn't want any of her family out there. It was all too much and she couldn't imagine losing one of them.
"Bella..." Jake shrugged her off. This is what we do. You girls should be happy. Look at us, working together. You're the ones who wanted us to get along, remember?"
Violet growled, standing up and walking out of the room, bumping his shoulder roughly as she passed. "Go ahead and feed yourself to the slaughter if you fucking want Jake... I'm done."
