Chapter 2
Bruce's POV:
The next morning, I woke up feeling more well rested than I had in a very long time. I always forget about how much more comfortable everything is here compared to everywhere else. Later on, after everyone had eaten breakfast, we had all gathered and were all sitting in the main room. I could feel that the others were about to burst with questions, and at this point I was just waiting to see who would break first. Surprisingly enough, it was Thor who asked the first question. I honestly was sure that it would be Tony or Clint.
"Might I ask, Banner, how it is you came to be welcomed into the few graced with the knowledge of the safehouse? Void guards the secret very closely and it's rare to find someone she trusts enough to tell of it." Mildly confused, I decide to just tell the whole story.
"I don't know about any Void, but I own my life to the one who showed me the safehouse. It was just after the incident that exposed me to the other guy, and I was on the run from Ross. I was running out of options and Ross and his men were steadily gaining on me, when I came across a small exposed beach. Up ahead there was a small cabin and as I ran past it, beginning to lose my breath, I felt a hand grab my arm and yank me backwards.
I thought for sure that Ross's men had caught up to me, but instead there was a girl. She shoved me into the corner, told me to be quiet, and turned to answer the pounding on the door. It was as though a whole new persona came over her, yawning and crankily asking who the heck was waking her up that late at night. Ross obviously didn't expect that, which threw him off. Then suddenly, there were soldiers shoving their way into the cabin and searching (aka destroying) it. I thought for sure that I was going to be captured, but when one of the soldiers shone his flashlight directly at me his expression never changed. The next thing I knew they were gone and I was alone in some random cabin with a mysterious girl that had just saved my life. And that was the point that I promptly passed out." This of course causes a round of laughter to go around the room, lightening the somber mood that had previously settled over us.
"The next thing I remember is waking up in the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in and asking the figure in front of me if 'I had died because I was pretty sure they were an angel.' Once she had stopped laughing, she introduced herself to me, told me about the safehouse, how it worked, introduced me to some of the others who call the safehouse home, and then she left. The last thing she said was that she had to go fight in a war, before she was gone. Eventually Yejide came to check on me and helped me acclimate to things. If it weren't for them, I probably wouldn't be alive right now." Sighing, Thor speaks up.
"Would anyone happen to know if the incident that created the Hulk happened to occur near when I met my Lady Jane?" With a look of confusion, Natasha speaks up.
"Yes. You touched down about a day or two after the Hulk incident. Why?"
"Because I believe that the woman who rescued Banner is the Lady Void and if this is true then you should feel honored, for it was one of the last things she did. The war she mentioned was against an old enemy of hers in defense of a school for young witches and wizards. We won the battle, but not without a price. She gave herself up to the enemy in exchange for the promise that none of the children would be harmed. No one has seen her since."
"How do you-"
"I was called to assist milady, and so I left the Lady Jane and Puente Antiguo behind for a few hours to fight beside my sister in arms. But I was too late, and I couldn't save her."
Tony, being Tony, senses the gloomy mood and tries his best to cheer it up by joking about the improbability of the workings of the safehouse, but it doesn't quiet work how he planned. All it served to do was to remind me that I needed to venture into her rooms to retrieve a notebook I had written notes of the workings of the 'bigger on the inside' technology. The best explanation I've managed to get was something about "stupid wizards," some "asshole Gallifreyans," a doctor, and something called a "TARDIS" but it was all a bit confusing. Also, the faucet on the kitchen sink was beginning to look like it was about to explode, so I figured it would be safer to not ask any more questions. Which is exactly why I wrote it all down.
Deciding to just make my life easier in the long run, I told the others that I needed to grab a notebook on all of my research into the workings of the safehouse from a friend's room. Before I could stand up though, everyone was jumping to come with me, saying anything from "I'm bored" as their reasoning to "You made me sad, so you aren't leaving my sight for at least the next week and a half" which is kind of like touching but also personal space, Tony no. Sighing, and realizing that they aren't going to listen to my protests, I decide to go on ahead and just pray that she isn't here. Oh. My. Gods. I'm going to die.
Heading to the magical elevator of teleportation, or as I like to call it the Instinctual Telepathic Spatial Locational Instantaneous Tesser (because ITS LIT *ba-dum-tsss*), we leave my floor. I'm not actually sure if we go down, or up, or left, or right, or diagonal, or, well, you get the picture. As I go to open the door I can't help but hope once more that I will luck out and she won't be here since the others came with me. Opening up the door to her room, I suck in a sharp breath as the room is revealed and there, sitting across the room at the vanity, is my best friend. Oh, this won't end well.
