synopsis !

were known in the town of Hawkins to easily fit the stereotype of the quiet loner kid, none more than the middle child of the three siblings, Grace Byers. While the youngest Will eventually gained a small group of friends and Jonathan could talk to people if he really wanted to (though, he never wanted to), Grace barely interacted with others outside her tiny family.

She had surprisingly been an outgoing kid for a while until she was six years old. Her mother, Joyce Byers, realized that her baby girl had imaginary friends at a level that wasn't normal for any child, how young Grace had believed they were real a little too much. Having a six year old girl say she heard voices in the walls was certainly a cause for concern.

It was also something that her partially-abandoning father Lonnie gave the girl shit for as soon as he ended up noticing, when he wasn't too busy with a bottle in his hand and one foot out the door. Lonnie already hated that both his sons were "soft and sensitive", he loathed the idea of his only daughter who had seemed to be normal, actually being insane.

Grace, despite Jonathan's attempts to shield his little sister from their father's harsh words directed towards her, learned soon enough not to talk about the people she saw and voices she heard that nobody else experienced. Her parents soon diverted their attention away from this and towards their constant arguments that led to their eventual divorce.

Nobody knew the truth that plagued her. Her parents thought it was a phase, her younger brother barely had any memories of it, her older brother's concern over it slowly disappeared as it appeared that it wasn't a problem anymore.

Nobody knew that, at the age of six, young Grace Byers was hearing the voices of the dead and  the whispers of others just like her who had once been alive.

Grace always had the inkling that she wasn't crazy, that this wasn't her being "the freak" that everyone else started seeing her as. She didn't have the proof until she was nine years old, when the voices warned her of the death of her neighbors, a nice couple with a child a year older than her, a week before it happened. It was then when she knew for certain that she wasn't normal, that she was something.

The young girl soon after assumed that she was a bad omen, that it was her fault, that she was cursed with hearing the voices of the dead and the night.

She isolated herself from others as more of similar problems occurred, once even screaming right before someone in another county had been killed in a drunk driving accident.

Her younger brother's friends, unlike the ones her age and older, had no idea she was considered a freak. They saw her as Will's cool older sister who was quiet like him but would hang out with them and even let them teach her DnD.

One night, Grace had fallen asleep while waiting for Will to return home from hanging out at Mike's house. The regret and guilt is formed the next morning when she wakes up to find him missing.

The voices won't stop screaming at her. And maybe this time, after new discoveries and a world unknown to them is revealed, people will start to see her as something other than crazy, as somebody who just hears what other people cannot.
