1. Out of all your works, which is your favorite?
Whichever one I'm currently working on! Because that's also the one that I'm currently daydreaming about.
But if we're talking about completed works...
On this account, After School for sure. I had a lot of fun over-exaggerating stuff and I remember I was in such a great mood the whole time while writing it which made it even more fun. There was a point where I felt kinda self conscious about just how enthusiastic I was about that one haha
One of my favorite bits from it was how every time Fukase casually contradicted himself, Len would immediately call him out on it. Also the contrast between Len's thoughts and actions was fun to write. And Oliver's slowly receding glow is something I'm still very content with looking back.
Although, the AU Interlude from A Very Simple Story was... definitely something. I totally let myself cut loose on the narration for once and you know
Funny to look back on haha. As a whole, A Very Simple Story isn't my favorite because there are just as many parts that I would change as parts that I still like.
(The scene in chapter 17 in which Fukase implies that Oliver worships him like a god was one of my favorites to write haha)
2. What's the easiest genre to write in your opinion?
I thought and thought about this and I still don't have an answer. I guess dialogue-heavy and dialogue-light are both easier than finding a balance but those aren't genres haha
3. What is your opinion on self-insert fics?
I think they're really weird. Like, isn't that the kind of stuff people would write and then keep to themselves? Because the character is literally you? I don't read them, but if you like them, more power to you.
4/25. How do you get your inspiration to write? Do you ever take inspiration from your life and add it into your stories?
Inspiration usually strikes when I'm daydreaming in the shower or during idles at work. So I end up repeating and revising and repeating the scene/dialogue/whatever in my head so I don't forget it. And by the time I actually have a chance to write it down it's past the first draft haha
I pull from my own life whenever I'm actively looking for inspiration. For example I once had to deliver an anonymous gift at one in the morning in below freezing weather and the entire time I was thinking about all the story possibilities. "What if, what if, what if" is the only thing ever constant in my head haha I immediately drafted dialogue when I was warming my hands after. I'm constantly making notes about stuff that happens to me or stuff I see happen to others that I want to happen to my characters.
Sometimes I even record snippets of overheard conversation by writing on the rubber grip of my water bottle in pen. No one around me is safe..
(In case you're curious, the latest thing I wrote on my water bottle was "I'm bored out of my doors.")
5. Do you ever suffer from writer's block? If so, how often?
I don't think writer's block exists. Or at least, I need to tell myself that. Because if I can't write and I think to myself, "I've got writer's block," it's much too easy to simply give up. It's easier to look for solutions if I don't have the mental image of a giant wall staring me down. I mean, that's the image I get. So whenever I get that feeling I pull out something different to work on.
Though I do have a little trick!
When I need to work on something I feel like I want to give up on because I've been staring at it for too long and the words don't look like words anymore, I change up the font and the colors of my word processor to something different from black and white 12pt Arial. It tricks my brain into thinking I'm working on something else if I make my writing look different. I once wrote an attempted murder scene in white 9pt Gaegu on a pink background. Fun!
6/9. Which fandom is your favorite to write for? Do you write for one fandom or many?
I only write for Vocaloid, obvi.
Heheh I've never used that word before. I just heard it a little bit ago. Obvi. It sounds like a cute robot name!
I once wrote a Pokémon fanfic and also a Warrior cats one but those... yeah. They don't count in my eyes. Together they couldn't have been more than a thousand words. Mainly they were just ocs in my head when I was a lot younger.
7. How long are your chapters, usually?
I'm a firm believer that chapters should be whatever length works for the story they are in. That's why the longest chapter in A Very Simple Story was ~3,800 words and the shortest chapter was ~50 words.
10. Do you take requests? Commissions?
Being paid for writing fanfiction would be amazing ngl But if I ever did that I'd probably stress myself to heaven and back and make my client age prematurely and no one wants that.
Maybe if you gave me donuts and stressed the importance of NOT having a deadline I could spit something out for you like an old printer eheh.
I do take requests, but only if I think they're cool or if they're vague enough so it's more my idea than anyone else's.
Something I used to do a lot was ask people for a single word and a character or pairing and then create an elaborate headcanon out of it. That was really fun.
11. What is your most popular fanfic?
A Very Simple Story.
The very first multi-chapter fic I've ever completed!
And also the first time I've ever destroyed the fourth wall so completely.
Want to hear something ironic? At the start of the story planning, I decided to make Oliver the Author's favorite character because my favorite at the time was Fukase. I wanted to distance myself from the Author's character a little bit so people wouldn't think it was a self-insert. But as I worked on it, Oliver actually became my favorite so... Oops.
I shouldn't have worried, it's pretty obvious that me the author and the character the Author are two very separate people.
I loved bringing the story out of the book and into my profile during the last chapters. I wanted to do something cool for the people who were reading the three part finale as it came out. It was fun having the cover art slowly corrupt itself as the fourth wall was breaking down inside the book.
Also, this chain of "same" on the first chapter never fails to make me laugh every time someone adds to it, it just keeps getting funnier as it gets longer haha
12. How many stories have you written?
When it comes to stories posted online,
There are 19 stories/ficlets/oneshots on this account, and 54 stories/oneshots added up from separate accounts.
That's 73 works!
This makes me realize......
I've let these alter egos live for far too long.
Then there's all the stuff I've written and didn't post anywhere. Don't make me count it. I'm not curious enough to go searching and it sounds like a lot of work.
13. Would you consider fanfic your "thing" or is it just a hobby?
I really love writing, and it is definitely the hobby that takes up most of my time, but my "thing" is being the physical embodiment of the power of hugs hello and welcome.
14. Do you read other fanfics?
Of course! I'm kinda picky about what I read though. I hit the back button for the littlest things, and too many times I've bookmarked a fic just to never read it. There are so many on my list that I want to read but I'll probably never get to because I keep getting distracted.
15. What is the best advice you can give to other fanfic authors?
Don't be so hard on your past self! You've grown so much! Everyone has to start somewhere! If it was ten days ago or ten years ago, you started and that's amazing! If you don't like your old work that's proof that your abilities are closer to your taste! Don't dwell too much on talent or uniqueness and whether or not you have either! It's okay to write completely cliche and self-indulgent things! It doesn't matter what other people might think because it makes you happy and that's what's important!
Also, if I can be selfish...
Please pretty please stop overusing epithets.
16. Do you believe the stereotype that all fanfiction is smut?
That seems to be a question you would ask someone who does NOT write fanfiction haha
17. Do you write smut/mature fics?
On my good christian Wattpad?
18. Is there a story you're not fond of and have you deleted it?
Yep, it's deleted. It was super arrogant and I'm glad I have grown.
19. How many years have you been writing fanfiction?
~8-9 years?
I feel judged.
20. How often do you update your stories?
Whenever the heck I feel like it stop judging me seriously all these questions are judging me
21. Does it bother you when characters are ooc in fanfics?
Not really. Fanfiction is a place for exploration, and I actually really like things like what if this character was like this or that or whatever. If it wasn't on purpose than I'm usually none the wiser. When I read fics for fandoms I'm not in, I'm even more oblivious.
22. Is it easy or hard for you to write?
It's much easier for me to come up with ideas and outline plots than it is to actually write a story out. I love imagining scenes and thinking "I'd love to see this happen," but inserting them into a story in a way that makes sense both plot-wise and character-wise is difficult.
(Another reason why A Very Simple Story was so disjointed)
Editing and deciding when something is the best it can be is the hardest part. That quote about art never being finished is always relevant..
23. Do you write original characters in your fanfics?
I used to, for secondary characters. Not anymore.
24. Have you ever written a fanfic about your favorite ship/couple?
My two favorite ships are Olilen and Olikase. I don't know which one I like better because they're both so much fun to write.
On one hand, Oliver and Fukase have instant chemistry in my eyes. I imagine their first impressions of one another bring about a very fast friendship and so much can happen as a result of the infatuation that it can lead to.
Also both of them have designs that I love dropping into different settings.
Fun(?) Fact: I've never written an Olikase fanfic that ends with them together. I can't think of a single story I've written, even the ones not on this account, that ends like that. For some reason, they just cannot stay together romantically. It's not tragic or anything, but it's just how they come across to me haha
I like reading Olikase fanfics, but it might be easier to write Fukase as being a mentor figure to Oliver instead of a love interest.
In a different vein, Fukase and Len are fun to write as longtime friends who are kinda jerks to each other.
On the other hand, I want to write Len and Oliver as everything. Oblivious & Lovestruck. Overbearing & Withdrawn. Guilty & Pushover. Troublemaker & Uptight. And I really want to write them as rivals-to-lovers.
Like, they should only confess their love for each other after months of rivalry that lead to a rocky friendship that takes years to solidify and deepen into romantic feelings that they're trying to suppress the whole way until they explode out in a very climactic moment. The slowest burn to ever burn.
But
If I'm being honest
Like really honest
I like writing Oliver with Yohioloid more than Len or Fukase but that's
I mean
Oli and Hio hold such a precious and dear place in my heart more than any romantic pairing ever will honestly I'm gonna shut up now because if I don't I never will you don't understand they mean so much to me right now your honor
26. Who is your favorite fanfic or regular author?
Neal Shusterman! The stories he creates are riveting.
27. Do you have any inspirational figures?
I used to be part of a group of writers at my local library that met every week to critique each other's work. I have an album in my phone that consists of all their positive feedback they wrote on my work that I look at when I'm feeling like a bad writer. Though I haven't done that in a long while! I haven't seen any of them in more than a year because of Covid and to be honest I've forgotten almost all of their names. One particular man was always very intensely encouraging to me and even gave me his business card haha
28. Have you made any hc/au for your fic?
Vocaloid fanfiction would be drier than stale beef jerky if the writer didn't use headcanons and aus haha
29. How long does it take you to normally write a story?
I have no idea.
I wrote a ~1,700 word story over two years and wrote a ~3,200 word story in three days.
Consistent is my middle name.
Obvi.
Heh heh that's such a funny word
