Veterinary Confinement (Part 1)

It was a beautiful morning at the Hernández place.

The Plaza show had ended with the usual round of cheers and applause from the audience and Vivo and Gabi taking their bows.

Vivo's friends approached.

Stella said, "Thrilling show as always, Vivo."

Vivo responded, "Muchas gracias, Stella."

Roxie said, "Yeah! As I'm pretty sure they say in Cuba..."

Roxie was trying to read a Spanish dictionary.

"Uh...Fue impresentable!"

However, Vivo's eyes suddenly widened.

"What do you mean, it was unpresentable?!"

Stella seemed displeased as well, "Roxie, I can't believe you would just say something like that."

Tiago also said, "For shame!"

Roxie quickly went, "Wait, what? No! I--I didn't mean--"

However, the three chuckled as Tiago said, "Just messing with you, Roxie-Rox."

Roxie sighed with relief, "Oh, good. For a minute there, I thought I actually said that."

Vivo said, "Uh, actually, you did say that."

Roxie asked, "Wait, I did?"

Stella said, "Yes, I believe you meant, 'Fue impresionante.'"

Roxie rechecked the Spanish dictionary, "Oh! You're right. Sorry."

Everyone just laughed.

Becky then asked Gabi, "Do you two have any plans for later today?"

Gabi said, "Not much, other than write more songs together, dance together, sing together, do whatever together."

Vivo agreed.

Becky said, "You two just don't want to do anything without the other, do you?"

Gabi responded, "Of course not. We're partners."

Vivo said, "Yep, we're like lyrics and melody. They're supposed to go together."

Gabi said, "We're like popcorn and hot sauce. One cannot exist without the other."

Vivo chuckled, "No matter how weird that combo sounds."

Charlotte said, "Aw, that wouldn't be weird...that'd be magical."

Everyone blinked at her.

Vivo said, "But anyways, yeah, I cannot think of one single reason as to why me and Gabi would ever be apart."

Just then, Gabi said, "Come on, Vivo. We still got an empty music notebook that hasn't been written yet."

Vivo agreed.

Gabi and Vivo saddled up and started on their way back home after exchanging their goodbyes with their friends.

Back at home, Gabi and Vivo walked through the front door.

Rosa was waiting for them in the living room.

Gabi and Vivo greeted her.

"Hi, Mom! What's up?"

Vivo chirped.

However, they noticed that Rosa had a slightly concerned look on her face.

She said with a matching voice, "Gabi, Vivo, why don't you both come join me on the couch?"

Gabi and Vivo looked at each other with slight confusion.

They did as she said and sat beside her on the couch.

Gabi asked, "What's going on, Mom?"

Rosa started with a sigh, "Gabi, so you know that Vivo used to live in Havana, Cuba."

Gabi said, "Well, of course! That's where we first met!"

Vivo also remembered that night fondly...despite it not being a rather fond night at the time.

Rosa continued, "And you also remember how Vivo came to live with us in Florida: by sneaking into your suitcase before we got on the plane."

Vivo remembered, "Yeah, my first travel trip. Wasn't exactly first-class, either."

Gabi also said, "Yeah! Probably the best surprise from Cuba I ever got!"

Rosa said, "It was, indeed, a big surprise. After all, nobody even noticed when he came from Cuba to here in Florida."

That was when Rosa sighed with concern.

"Which brings me to why I wanted to talk to you."

Vivo and Gabi looked at her with curiosity.

At that moment, Rosa showed them the letter she found in the mailbox earlier.

The one from the Florida Wildlife Commission.

Gabi asked, "What's this?"

Rosa explained, "A letter from the Florida Wildlife Commission. They're a group of people who make sure that the animals and natural resources in Florida are being well taken care of. And they seem to have found out about Vivo, along with how he came into Florida. And, well..."

Gabi and Vivo looked at each other before they looked at what the letter said.

It said:

'Dear Mrs. Hernández,

As soon as Gabi and Vivo stopped reading, they were just as worried as Rosa was.

Gabi asked, "Mom? Are--Are we gonna be--"

Rosa stopped her, "Now, now, don't worry. I called them after I finished reading it myself and explained the whole situation. Thankfully, they're good people and understood that we never actually meant to disobey the law."

Gabi and Vivo both sighed with relief.

However, Rosa then said, "But we still have to get this taken care of."

Gabi and Vivo grew slightly concerned again.

Rosa explained, "I've already arranged to stop by at the office and get those fees and paperwork taken care of and..."

Vivo and Gabi waited for her to finish with growing nerve.

Rosa finished with rather unsettling plans.

"I've managed to arrange an appointment with the vet's office and get those ten days of quarantine out of the way."

Gabi and Vivo both gasped with horror.
