Speechless [Semi Eita x Reader]

Part One of the Pretty Setter Series
Fandom: Haikyuu!!

The new school year was starting and it was your third year, and not to mention, your last year. You were a student at one of the most famous schools in Japan, Shiratorizawa.

You still haven't opened up anyone in particular, but recently, a certain boy had caught your eye. You hadn't noticed him until the last few months of your second year, because he wasn't in your class and the school was swarming with students.

You didn't know about other people, but you thought he was the prettiest boy alive. With his black-tipped, light blonde hair, with his sharply shaped brown eyes, with his usual serious expression on his face.

That certain boy was called Semi Eita.

You had always watched him from afar, but you never had the courage to go up to him. He was always with his friends: Ushijima Wakatoshi, Tendou Satori, and Ohira Reon.

You wanted to muster up the courage to go talk to him, but every time you tried to approach him, you got interrupted by someone who would lead him away as if you weren't even there.

And after that, your courage would decrease a lot, then you would go back to whatever you were doing.

You wanted so badly to tell him how you felt, to find him alone and whisper out a confession, but because of that intense gaze of his, you were too afraid of being rejected by him.

You had already tried to write a love letter addressed to him, but every time you attempted to write one, it started to sound cheesy and you were at a loss of words. You didn't know what else to write. The only thing that sounded okay was, "Semi Eita, I am in love with you."

You gripped the sides of your textbook tightly. The only thing your mind focused on was him. Maybe you could make it to his classroom and tell him before he got to his friends.

Determined to carry out this action, you stared at the clock and waited to the second hand to reach 12. The bell rang. You sprung out of your seat, grabbed your books, and rushed out the door with some of the students.

You raced down the hallways to his classroom, and you saw his familiar blonde-haired head emerge from the classroom. You clenched your fists and tapped his back gently. He turned around to face you.

"Yes, what can I do for you?" he asked you.

Your eyes widened in nervousness and you blushed, looking down. You opened your mouth slightly to speak. Your voice broke as you started to stammer.

"Semi-san, I w-want to t-tell you someth--"

"Semisemi!" A voice rang out.

"Ah, I'm sorry, but I have to go. Maybe we can talk later," he apologized quickly.

"O-Oh."

A tall boy with gelled-up red hair walked over and wrung his arm around Semi's shoulders. He nearly stumbled, but found support from his friend.

"How many times have I told you? Don't call me Semisemi. Oi, you're heavy!" Semi complained, pushing Tendou off of him.

"I'll see you later, then," you mumbled, your voice inaudible. You turned away, tears threatening to spill from your eyes. You were so close!

You walked quickly to the girls' bathroom and splashed water on your face as you cried, the tears blending in with the water droplets that rolled down your face.

You looked at yourself in the mirror. All you saw was a pathetic girl that couldn't get things done. A girl that couldn't finish things off. A person who left things undone, just like a half-done piece of homework. Deciding to go get lunch, you got up and headed to the lunchroom like nothing had ever happened to you.

The school bell rung, signalling the end of class. You got up from your seat and slid your books into your bag. You pulled at your (h/c) hair in frustration at the failure of your most recent attempt.

Gripping the leather handles of your bag tightly, your feet pattering in a never ending rhythm as you spiralled down quickly to the ground floor.

Many of the students were heading towards the entrance of the school, the same as you. You heard the pitter-pattering of footsteps. Someone was running towards you. But you ignored them anyways.

Just about when you were going to turn the corner, someone grasped your wrist. You whipped around.

"(L/n)-san!" A familiar voice panted. The voice of your crush, Semi Eita.

"Semi-san?"

You widened your eyes, shocked. After regaining your composure, you started to blush again.

"What can I help you with?" you asked softly.

"You wanted to tell me something earlier. What was it?" He checked his watch. "You should make it quick. I need to get to volleyball practice soon."

You suddenly entered panic mode.

"I'm...uh...um..."

You didn't know what to say. After a moment of thinking, your mind went blank. You gritted your teeth and stared at the ground.

"...N-Never mind. It's not that important."

Semi raised an eyebrow. "Well, in that case, I'd best be going. See you around."

With that, he walked off to the gym. You watched him as he left, unbelieving that you had let this valuable chance slip. You cursed as you gritted your teeth and kicked a nearby pebble off the sidewalk and onto the road.

Two semesters had passed, and you had not said a word to Semi Eita after that incident. You have not interacted with him other than the times that you've accidentally brushed past or bumped into each other in the hallways.

You're in class filling out your career plan form when you realize that you have to make your confession by the end of the school year. You wouldn't be able to see your precious Semi Eita after high school unless you two go to the same university.

You had also realized that it was better to confess before Shiratorizawa's volleyball team left for the Spring High volleyball tournament with the other schools today. It wasn't as if Shiratorizawa would lose anyways, since they won and went to nationals every year. But after the tournament and their victorious win, Semi probably would rather be busy celebrating with the rest of his team than to listen to your confession.

You decided that it was time to be straight up honest with your crush. Tearing out a piece of paper from your notebook, you folded it in half, writing "To Semi Eita" on the front. Then you decided to write something short and simple on the inside. You tapped your pencil, deep in thought. Knowing that it would probably come back to hurt you in more ways than one, you then scribbled out,

Semi Eita, I am in love with you.

-(l/n)(f/n)

That was all you wrote. You folded the paper back, then stuck it in your notebook. It didn't matter than he didn't return your feelings, but it was imperative that he needed to know about them.

Sure, writing love letters and notes to someone may seem stupid and childish, but what could you do? It was your last resort.

You decided to try confessing face to face with him and if that didn't work, you would give him the note. That was all you had to do. But was it really that easy and simple?

You frowned, taking the note back out. You gripped it tightly and stared out the window.

"(L/n)-san!" the teacher called you. You almost fell out of your seat at the sudden outburst. "Have you finished your career plan form?"

You shook your head and lowered your gaze to the wooden desk's smooth surface. Picking up your pencil, you continued to fill out your career plan form.

The bell rang right after, so you got up with the rest of the students. Putting your form into your bag, you left swiftly and headed to Semi's classroom. You peeked in, seeing that he was sitting on his desk, chatting with his friends.

You walked in casually, but on the inside, you were still nervous. It had been so long since you had talked to him, and it would be awkward if he had spotted you now.

You strolled around the classroom, heading for his bag, which was hanging on the right side of his desk, in the opposite direction of where he was facing. You slipped the note into the main compartment of his bag, then left the classroom.

You took a deep breath and let it out. You had finally done it. You had given him the letter, he was going to read it, and the game of hiding secrets was going to be over. You were never going to talk to Semi ever again, but was this what you really wanted?

No, it wasn't. You didn't want that to happen at all. You pursed your lips and watched Semi walk out with his other friends. You followed them at a distance to the entrance of the school. Semi departed from his friends, and started to walk to the coach that would bring the team to the tournament venue.

You ran over before he could step out of the school. You called his name.

"Semi-san."

Your crush stopped walking.

"Yes?"

Just like all the other attempts, your voice got caught at the back of your throat before you could confess.

Why? Why did this always happen to you? Why did this happen every time you tried to confess your feelings?

There was a moment of silence as you tried to think of what to say. Suddenly, a strong gust of wind blew towards you two, and your (h/l) hair got ruffled by the wind. You brushed a strand behind your ear.

"I, um...Good luck. On your tournament," you stammer out.

"Thanks."

After another moment of silence, neither of you had much to say, So you both just went in your own separate directions.

It's okay, he's going to read the note anyways, you thought.

But little did you know, that your precious Semi Eita had never read it.
