Chapter 9: Legends of Power

Josh was laying on the ground, the cold slowly wearing off. His eyes started to move again, he was able to move his limbs a bit, and he was no longer encased in ice. Natalie made another, less hot ember between her hands, and moved it near Josh. The heat from the ember helped Josh to fully thaw out, and to warm up afterwards. When Josh had fully unfrozen, he sat up, looked at Natalie, and embraced her.

Natalie was tempted to push him away, but given that she just saved him from certain death, and that he had rejected her before, she returned the embrace. They hugged each other for quite a long time, melting into eachother's embrace, as if they hadn't seen each other in many years. When they released each other, their eyes met, Natalie looking into Josh's brown eyes, Josh looking into Natalie's blue eyes, and their cheeks turned redder then a Shiny Clauncher. They quickly stood up and looked away from each other, before they smiled and held eachother's hand. They walked over to Jacob and Megan, the latter one weeping into her hands.

Feeling her brother's presence, Megan immediately stopped crying. "Josh! You're alive," Megan said, rising and hugging Josh with all her strength. "Yes, I am alive. Thanks to a little kinetic intervention," Josh said, looking back at Natalie. "Wait, you have pyrokinesis, Natalie? That's awesome," Jacob said. "I know, although I can only make small embers at this point," Natalie replied. "Well, I think we should get back home by now. It's been, what, an hour? We should tell everyone what happened," Jacob said. "Come on guys, last one back is a rotten Exeggcute," Megan shouted, running ahead of the group. The others ran after her, and before they knew it, they were at their house.

(Meanwhile, inside the Daines residence)

"Thomas, have you ever wondered what your life would be like if we never adopted you," grandma Daines asked. "Once in a while, yes. I do know that I wouldn't have Jacob and Natalie, as I wouldn't have met their mother. And that is certainly a future that I wouldn't want to experience." "Yes, same here. Now that they're here, I don't want those children going before we do," grandpa Daines said. Tom could feel the kids coming back. "Well, it looks like the kids are back. I wonder how their day was." "Well, we should ask them. When else are we going to get to again," grandma Daines asked. They all prepared to ask the children how their day went, while Tom thought for a bit. "I feel a new energy coming from Jacob and Natalie. It feels like...No! It couldn't be! Natalie, she has the same energy as her mother did! Could she truly be one of those? Hopefully not, as that will only get her trouble with her lack of experience."

"Hello! We're back," Jacob said as they all walked through the door. "Well, hello, everyone! How was your time away," Tom asked. "It was fun! We caught Pokémon, met new people, and learned more about ourselves," Megan said, looking at Jacob and Natalie in particular. "Well, I can tell you've done a lot. Jacob with the egg, Natalie with the Shiny Togepi, and Megan and Josh with the extra Pokéballs," grandpa Daines said. Natalie's Shiny Togepi, who was resting on Natalie's shoulder, awoke at the sound of it's name. It jumped off of Natalie's shoulder, did a flip, and landed on the ground, giving a smug look with it's hands on it's sides. It was clearly proud of it's status.

"Mardi, no showing off yet. We don't even know what you can do," Natalie reminded him. Mardi gave an annoyed look to Natalie, before climbing onto a kitchen chair and nodding off. "That Togepi, I swear, it's going to be shown up at some point, and I will enjoy every moment of it," Josh thought. "Well, Josh and Megan, why don't you two get settled in the guest room? I imagine that you'll need a place to stay for the night, Tom said. "Well, I guess so. We haven't slept in a house for a while, Megan said. "Well, it's the third door on the right. Just make yourself at home." "Thank you, Mr. Daines," Josh said, before they went into the room. "Wait, dad, why aren't we helping them," Natalie asked. "Because, I need to talk to you two," their father said. He took them outside and started to question them.

"Now, Jacob, I want you to do exactly as I say," their father said, his back to Jacob. "Ok, dad, I will." He was panicking on the inside, as he and Natalie didn't want to reveal their powers to him yet. "Good, good. Now, catch," Mr. Daines said, throwing a flaming ball of paper at Jacob. Jacob, knowing that he couldn't catch it with his bare hands, had no choice but to use his telekinesis to suspended it in midair.

"Well, well, and you thought that you could keep that a secret." "Would it surprise you if we said yes," Natalie asked, as she slowly extinguished the fire with her powers. Once the fire was out, Jacob released the ball from his telekinetic grasp, and it continued it's flight, hitting Jacob in the face. Mr. Daines gave a sigh, a sorrowful look on his face. "Arceus, when I thought you two were safe, this happens," he said.

"Dad, what do you mean," Natalie asked. "Natalie, I don't know how to say this, but-your mother has pyrokinesis. You inherited it from her, like Jacob inherited his telekinesis from me," their father said, as he used his telekinesis to move the ball of paper into a trash can. "Wait, how do humans gain these powers," Jacob asked. "Well, from what I've heard, there's a legend about it." "Can you tell us it," Natalie asked. "Well, alright."

"Long ago, there was a war between humans. This war rocked the entire planet, throwing all the regions into chaos. The Pokémon wanted to stop it, but were unable to intervene. In a desperate attempt to quell the chaos, 7 ancient legendary Pokémon from the Unova Region, being Reshiram, Zekrom, Tornadus, Landorus, Kyurem, Keldeo, and Genesect, gave their elemental abilities to a select few people, and guided them to stop the war."

"These humans were able to stop the war in Unova. So quickly, in fact, that many legendary Pokémon began giving their abilities to other people, from Articuno in Kanto, to Xerneas in Kalos, in an effort to quell the war. This effort was a success, and the world at large was at peace. At this point, many of the empowered humans were satisfied, and asked to have their powers removed. Those who didn't, however, had their abilities inherited by their children, using a different legendary Pokémon as the ability giver. For instance, a person who was given electrokinetic powers by Zapdos could have a child who got them from Raikou. These abilities have been passed down for many generations, and now, they have been passed on to you two."

"Wait, so, is there a way to tell what Pokémon one got their powers from," Jacob asked. "Well, it's assumed that those who inherit a power from a legendary have a special bond to that legendary. So, you may be able to communicate with the legendary that gave you your powers." "Well, who did you get your powers from," Natalie asked. "I got my powers from Latios." "Ah, that may explain the Soul Dew in our room," Jacob said. "Jacob, no that doesn't. We already know how he found them, remember?" "Yeah, I remember the story. I just thought that having a special bond with Latios would explain how he was able to find and take the two Soul Dews."

"Well, you two should rest. I can tell that you've had a busy day." "Well, alright. We will," Natalie said. They went into their room, and while Natalie was grooming Mardi, Jacob went into his closet and pulled out his Soul Dew. He never knew why, but holding the Soul Dew gave him a sense of warmth and comfort. "So, you holding your Soul Dew again," Natalie asked. "What can I say? It make me feel calm," Jacob replied. "Well, can you give me mine? I want to feel calm too." "Sure thing," Jacob said, grabbing Natalie's Soul Dew and handing it to her. "Thanks, Jacob," she said, holding it in her closed hand. They fell asleep soon after, the feeling from their Soul Dews making them slightly drowsy.

"So, Megan, I've been meaning to ask, do you ever have flashbacks," Josh asked. "That depends, flashbacks of what," Megan replied. "Well, of anything I guess." "Well, I usually have flashbacks of happy and important moments in my life." "Oh, how l envy you. The only flashbacks I ever have are unhappy." "Ah, I see, you have flashbacks of dad." "We were only 7 years old when we lost him. My memories of him have haunted my mind since that day." His eyes began filling with tears, and Megan moved over to hug him. "Hey, it'll be alright. We'll see him again someday, I know it," Megan said, tears starting to fill her eyes up. They began to start crying and embracing each other. "Well, it could be worse," Megan thought. "At least we knew dad."
