Chapter 14: Bring Your Child to Battle Day
(Meanwhile, on the other side of the complex)
Natalie had made it quite far into the compound, and was almost to the end. She made it to a long hallway with a door at the end. She took out the guards, and went inside. When she did, the doors closed on her, and Malus stepped out of the shadows. "Hello, mother." "Hello, Natalie. I see that you've found my hideout." "Yes, and I see that you've made the most boring place to work out of it." "My, my, you should really be more kind to your own mother."
"You're my mother in name alone. Speaking of which, why did you fall to evil? What caused you to desire world domination?" "You see, I had read that people who committed crime in one region could flee to another region and avoid punishment. It caused me to break down, as my parents had been murdered when I was but a young girl, and the perpetrator was never punished for it. I wanted to conquer the world to make my own government, so that such a situation could never exist."
"And becoming a criminal was the only way you could do it? You couldn't lobby for it?" "That would only fix it in one region, and I would be dead by the time all regions passed it. So I resorted to the extremes to accomplish my goals." "And you lost the only family you still had from doing it." "Don't you back sass your mother!" "I already told you, you aren't my mother! You just happen to be the one who gave birth to me!"
Malus threw a fireball at Natalie, who ducked under it. "Well, you aren't wrong. I would expect my child to counter a fireball like that with their own, or at least use their powers to extinguish it." "Well, it would have helped to have someone to teach me how, but the only one who could is a wanted criminal!" Natalie put Holstein back in it's Pokéball, leaving Mardi out.
"Malus, fight me. If I win, you'll disband Team Sutilis, and give up crime forever. And if you win, I'll join Team Sutilis." "Very well, I accept. Menelaus, I choose you," Malus said, sending out her Gallade. "I'll let you take the first action. Your Togepi should do at least one action!" "Thank you, Malus. Mardi, wag your finger and use Metronome!" Mardi wagged his finger back and forth, before rushing towards Menelaus and jumping on him.
Mardi started playfully biting and scratching Menelaus all over. He did this so fast, that a cloud of dust surrounded them both. When Mardi was done, Menelaus fell to the ground, fainted. "Well, good thing Mardi rolled Play Rough!" "Grr, lucky shot. Menelaus, return," Malus said, grabbing another Pokéball. "Go, Scylla," she said as she sent out her next Pokémon.
(Meanwhile, back to Jacob)
"Voltaire! Ice Punch," Jacob yelled. Voltaire suddenly appeared behind the Latios and delivered a freezing punch to it's back. The Latios was sent crashing into the floor, but was barely even phased. He fired a Dragon Pulse at Voltaire, sending him through the wall behind Josh and Megan. Jacob ran into the room Voltaire was sent into.
When he got inside, he saw a pedestal, holding bracelet with a hole in the top and a necklace with an odd pendant on the end, both with rainbow-colored stones next to them, with an odd, black emblem inside, like a cats eye marble. On an adjacent pedestal were two stones, like the rainbow stones, but bigger, and with two colors inside. One was purple and red, while the other was purple and blue. Jacob had no time to dwell on this, so he just put the stones and accessories in his bag.
"Voltaire, you need to get up! That Latios is coming back!" Voltaire sprang to his feet, far faster than he could before. "Wait, Voltaire, isn't your ability Motor Drive?" Voltaire nodded in confirmation. "Of course, that's why you're so fast right now! You absorbed the electricity from the wires!" Just then, the Latios came into the room, a scowl on his face. "Put those back, boy!"
"No, you have no authority over me! Voltaire, Ice Punch again!" Voltaire immediately punched the Latios in the face with an icy fist. The Latios was sent flying, crashing into the white panels of the wall. This continued for a number of minutes, with the Latios repelling Voltaire with an attack, and Voltaire countering with an Ice Punch. Jacob knew that he couldn't keep this kind of assault up for long, but he got a lucky break.
On Voltaire's last Ice Punch, the Latios became encased in ice, frozen from the Ice Punch. The frozen dragon crashed into the floor, sealed in a block of ice. "Ok, Voltaire! While he can't float..." Suddenly, a pillar of flame appeared, striking the Latios and melting his icy prison. Jacob looked towards the entrance to the room, and saw another Latios, with an energy he recognized surrounding it. "Dad? Why did you do that?" "Because, Jacob, I won't let you hurt my brother!"
(Back in Malus' office)
"You did great, Mardi! Return," Natalie said, returning her fallen Togepi. Scylla, Malus' Lapras was a formidable foe indeed, able to take a Low Kick from Mardi and counter with an Ice Beam to knock Mardi out. "Alright, Holstein, I choose you," Natalie said, sending out Megan's Miltank. "Holstein, Body Slam!" Holstein leaped into the air, crashing down on Scylla with her entire body. When the attack was finished, Scylla was visibly slower, and in a lot of pain.
"Good thing that I got the paralysis chance on that!" "No matter, Scylla, use your own Body Slam!" Scylla jumped into the air, ready to crush Holstein under her weight. "Roll out of the way," Natalie commanded. Holstein rolled out of the way of Scylla's assault, leaving the Lapras to crash into the floor. But, Holstein kept rolling, getting larger and larger as she did. Eventually, Holstein rolled right over Scylla, crushing her under the attacks weight. Scylla fell to the ground, fainted, while Holstein took it's spot back in front of Natalie.
"A formidable strategy, indeed, Natalie, using Rollout as a dodge, and an attack. Scylla, get back!" Malus put away Scylla's Pokéball and grabbed another. "Charybdis, go!" The ball opened, revealing a large, blue and white Pokémon, with small red eyes, two small arms, and 3 tentacles coming out of it. "A Jellicent, very unorthodox indeed, Malus. This will be fun!"
(Back to the other side)
"Wait, this is your adoptive brother," Jacob asked his father. "Yes, Jacob, this Latios is my brother, though he has fallen to evil." "So, you've finally found this place, brother," the other Latios said. "Yes, I have, and I see that you were the third energy that I felt upon coming here. Tell me, why did you fall to evil?" "It was of my own choice. I saw the evil in the world and wanted to stop it."
"Ah, so you were brainwashed, interesting. To think that Karson, or as she's called, Malus, could come up with that." "Join me, brother. Together we can take over the world, and you can be reunited with your wife, and your kids can see their mother again!" "No, we can't. Malus is not my mother, and us joining you won't change that. A mother is someone that can teach their children about right and wrong, who can provide for them, and can make them feel loved." "He's speaking like someone more than twice his age! How is this happening," Mr. Daines thought.
"Malus does not do that," Jacob continued. "Malus never taught Natalie and I about right and wrong, not that it would have helped. She never provided for us, she just abandoned us. And I have never felt loved when I'm around her, I just feel betrayed and unjustly treated. Malus is not my mother, she just happens to be the one who gave birth to me and Natalie, gave us our hair color, and gave Natalie her pyrokinesis. My dad is the only parent I truly have, and that's just fine by me."
"Foolish boy! Just because your mother is a criminal and not present in your life like you want her to be, that doesn't mean that she isn't your parent!" "Just because she's my parent doesn't mean that I look up to her." The Latios roared with rage. "Brother! Teach your child some manners!" "Why should I? I've heard that teaching someone something again isn't the best use of anyone's time. I see nothing wrong with Jacob's manners currently."
The Latios' rage blasted forward, and he tackled Jacob's dad through a wall. They crashed into a large battling arena, like one that you would find at a gym, or the Pokémon League. "Well, what a place to have a last stand. An actual battling field." "Yes, a fitting place for your grave!" "Whip him good, dad," Jacob said, returning Voltaire.
